Trace Adams Saturday Play with Analysis

For Saturday in college football, Raise the Bar 1500♦ Upset Special will be Miami-Florida plus the points at home against North Carolina. At the time I release this selection, the Hurricanes are the 7-point underdog. I also have a 500♦ Best Bet on Rutgers as the home favorite against Syracuse. At the time I release this play, Rutgers is the 7-point home favorite.


Miami was humiliated last week by Notre Dame at Soldier Field, as the Canes came up with just 3 points in their 41-3 rout. I trust coach Al Golden to get his team ready for this game against a North Carolina team that has won and covered their last 3 games. The Heels 3 game win streak has come ALL at home though. On the road UNC is 0-2 both straight up and against the spread, and the home team in North Carolina's games this season is 5-0 straight up and against the spread.


The Hurricanes had been able to win and cover the last pair of series meetiings, so don't look for them to be outclassed the way they were versus the stingy Irish defense last week. Miami has not lost back-to-back games straight up since Al Golden arrived last season, so look for the home underdog to be there plus the points this afternoon.


Miami has played 4 of their 6 games this season away from home, and they have won both home games thus far this season, including a solid 44-37 win over NC State. No reason they can't to the same today to UNC.


Bonus play on Rutgers and their staunch defense to make life tough on Syracuse this afternoon in North Jersey.


The Scarlet Knights have adjusted to life after Greg Schiano just fine, as RU is 5-0 straight up while holding the opposition to just under 11 points per game in their 5 wins.


Syracuse has only come up with 28 points their last 2 games, and were very lucky to hold on for the outright against Pittsburgh last week. The Orange did not cover a road game last season - 0-5 against the spread! - and are just 1-6 spreadwise on the road since last season. Then there is the matter of dealing with a 1-5 spread mark the last 6 series meetings at Rutgers.

Trace Adams Sunday Play with Analysis

For Sunday in the NFL, 1500♦ Raise the Bar Winner #3 in a Row will be the visiting St. Louis Rams as the underdog against the host Miami Dolphins. As of 6:00 am eastern time, the Rams are the +4 1/2 point underdogs both in Vegas and offshore.


Miami may only be 2-3 this season straight up, but they have proved to be quite a sticky out in all but one of their games this season. The Dolphins are coming off that 17-13 upset win at Cincinnati, and do have their bye-week up next. Still, with a rookie at quarterback I don't like the idea of laying this many points to a team that comes in with a few extra days to prepare under their belts.


St. Louis was last on field in their 17-3 Thursday night win at home over Arizona, their second straight up and against the spread win and cover. Of course both of those games were contested at home, and the Rams are on the road for this tussle with the Dolphins. On the road, the Rams are 1-1 against the spread in the underdog role, and I think that mark improves to 2-1 with the cover today at Miami.


The Rams will miss the loss of WR Amendola, but their defense has proved to be one of the better stop units in the league, and has allowed just 39 points to score their past 3 games. It will have to be the defense that is the difference-maker in this game, as St. Louis and Miami battle to a low-scoring hotly-contested affair that could very well be decided by the field goal kickers. It that happens to be the scenario that plays out, do note that Rams kicker Greg Zuerlein has NOT missed a try this season, and has plenty of leg to poke them through from long distance.


Just do not see 4 1/2 points deciding this game. Take the underdog Rams plus the points to keep this one nice and close.
