Dom Chambers Saturday Action

My 30 Dime play is on the Tampa Bay Rays as a road underdog to beat the Los Angeles Angels. Checking the sports books the Rays are a +140 underdog.

ANALYSIS

Here are two teams looking for a playoff berth, but these starting pitchers are going in opposite directions.

Alex Cobb starts for the Rays. Overall, he is 7-8 with a 4.08 ERA. But in his last three starts, he has really picked up his game, going 3-0 with a 1.29 ERA and a WHIP of 0.76.

He is one of the reasons the Rays are still in the talk about the wild card.

For the Angels, C.J. Wilson starts. He has not lived up to the hype when the Angels signed him in the off-season. Oveirall, he is 9-9 with a 3.32 ERA. But has had his troubles lately, going 0-2 in his last three starts with an ERA of 6.88. Over that span, his WHIP is 2.00.

Since June 26, he is 0-5 with a 5.04 ERA.

The Rays have won the first two games of this series and have been hot lately, going 8-2 in their last 10. In the first two games, the Rays beat Dan Haren and Jared Weaver. Wilson is one of the struggling Angel starters.

The Angels have had a bit of a problem lately, losing five of their last seven games.

The Rays are 7-1 against the Angels this season. That trend will continue today.

Dom Chambers Sunday Action

My 40 Dime play is on the New York Yankees on the run line to beat the Boston Red Sox. Checking the sports books the Yankees are +125 on the run line.

ANALYSIS

This is a situation where one team is just better and one team has the better pitcher going.

And with Josh Beckett, you would think the Red Sox would have the pitching edge.

Wrong!

Beckett has not been himself this season. Overall, he is 5-10 with a 5.19 ERA and a WHIP of 1.31. In his last three starts, it gets even worse, going 0-1 with a 10.38 ERA. In his last start, he gave up six runs in 5 1/3 innings against Baltimore.

Quite simply, he’s been getting shelled.

For the Yankees, Hiroki Kuroda starts, and he has been a pleasant surprise for the Yankees.

Overall, he is 11-8 with a 3.06 ERA. But in his last three starts, he is 1-1 with a 1.66 ERA and a WHIP of 1.02.

With the way Beckett has getting battered, you might think the over would be a good play. But in the last four home starts for Kuroda, the under for the Yankees is 4-0. The total is set at 9, and this could easily be a 6-2 type of game.

The run line is the way to go. In the last six losses by the Red Sox, the run line has covered all six times. In the last six wins by the Yankees, the run line is 5-1.

Take the Yankees on the run line.
