Dom Chambers Tuesday Action

My 50 Dime play is on the Pittsburgh Pirates to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks. Checking the sports books in Las Vegas the Pirates are -120 favorites.

ANALYSIS

This is a case of going with the hotter team at home with the better pitcher. It’s a combination that’s just too good to pass up.

Jeff Karstens starts for the Pirates. Overall, he has nice stats and he is 4-2 with a 3.70 ERA. But in his last three starts, he is 2-0 with a 2.65 ERA and a WHIP of 1.176. At home, his numbers are even better, going 2-0 with a 0.43 ERA and a WHIP of 0.857.

All indications is that he will have a quality start and put the Pirates into a spot to win.

As for the D-Backs, Pat Corbin starts. Overall, he is 3-3 with a 4.32 ERA. On the road, he is 2-2 with a 5.57 ERA.

The D-Backs after winning four in a row, have gone south, losing their last three games.

The Pirates will score against Corbin. At home, the Pirates are extremely tough, going 34-16. Against lefties, the Pirates are 18-11.

All indications here point to the Pirates.

Dom Chambers Wednesday Action

My 60 Dime play is the Los Angeles Dodgers on the run line against the Colorado Rockies. Checking the sports books in Las Vegas the Dodgers are +110 on the run line.

ANALYSIS

The Dodgers have lost the first two games of this series and look anemic in the process, but things look to be changing a bit.

Chad Billingsley starts for the Dodgers and he has been on a tear since rejoining the lineup. Overall, his ERA is 3.74. But in his last three games, he is 3-0 with an ERA of 0.89. He has given up two runs in 20 1/3 innings.

He is attacking the batters and has been nearly untouchable.

For the Rockies, Jeff Francis starts and he has struggled lately. He is 1-2 with an ERA of 8.56 in his last three starts.

With Billingsley on the mound, the Dodgers have more confidence. The team, prior to these two losses, won the previous three games.

The Dodgers have the pitching edge and should be able to get to Francis, so the recipe is there for a big win for the Dodgers, who will be in a bounce-back game.

Take the Dodgers on the run line.

Dom Chambers Thursday Action

My 70 Dime play is on the Washington Redskins as a road favorite to beat the Buffalo Bills. Checking the sports books the Redskins are -2 point favorites.

ANALYSIS

When it comes to the preseason, you have not only look at the personnel, but also look at motivation and the goals for the team.

With the Redskins, you have a coach in Mike Shanahan who has a winning record in preseason games. He is trying to change the recent culture there and winning, even preseason, is important. With his coaching style, he demands a certain amount of work ethic from his players from the time they start training camp. This reflects with the effort on the field. Even the third stringers

With the Redskins’ quarterback situation, Robert Griffin III will only get a little playing time. But you have veteran Rex Grossman and rookie Kirk Cousins battling it out for the second-string spot on the team.

The Bills on the other hand are just the opposite. Coach Chan Gailey places little importance on winning these games. He is 4-14 straight up.

The quarterback situation is more stable in Buffalo. The pecking order is in place with Ryan Fitzpatrick the starter. Vince Young is No. 2 with Tyler Thigpen the third string.

The Bills do have an improved defensive front, but don’t expect the starters to be in there much more than a series or two in the first preseason game.

The Redskins should be a bit more prepared for this game and get the victory.

I'd love to see the Bills get to +3 here before kickoff.

Seeing +2.5 at most places.
