Can't back a Denver team that continued its recent fade by coming up short in Orlando on Sunday as Carmelo was held without a field goal in the fourth quarter of a 103-97 loss the Magic broke open with a game-deciding 18-7 run. The Nuggets are now 1-3 on their curent road trip, which ends tonight, having alredy lost at Orlando, Boston (113-99) and New York (109-104) with the only win coming on a buzzer-beater at Toronto (97-96).
Denver is in a free-fall versus the oddsmakers as well. Maybe it's the absense of George Karl (cancer treatment) or Kenyan Martin (13 straight missed games) or a combination of both, but they've 0-7-1 ATS in their last eight games.
Dallas has strugled, failling to win consecutive games since the end of its big 14-game winning streak, but I'd rather lay the points with the Mavricks than support the Nugets, who are 4-9 ATS on the road this season in the second of back-to-back games.
Looking for a big bounceback game from Dirk tonight. He's failed to score at least 20 in four straight; he hasn't gone five in a row under 20 in over NINE years. And Nowtzki usually plays strong against Denver; he averaged 34.4 points and shot 53.4% in last year's five-game playoff series loss, pouring in 44 in the last game played in Dallas.
FYI - Dirk had a triple-double with 34 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists."

And this is what I told you...
Four recent games, two from each of tonight's opponents, influenced this choice.
In Duke's case, the first was the Blue Devils' 68-53 throttling of California in the second round. The Blue Devils not only held an explosive Golden Bears' team to a season-low in points, but they cruised to a 15-point win as a seven-point chalk despite an awful 1-for-11 shooting performance from Jon Scheyer, who is averaging 18.1 ppg. The other contest was its four-point triumph over Georgia Tech in the ACC title game as the Yellow Jackets were playing impressive ball at the time but still fell to the Devils.
In Purdue's case, the first game in question was a late-season 53-44 home loss to Michigan State, the team's first outing following the season-ending knee injury suffered by forward Robbie Hummel, their second-leading scorer and rebounder. The Boilermakers were hammered on the boards 46-20 and minus Hummel, their other two stars, E'Twaun Moore and JaJuan Johnson combined to miss 20 of their 27 shots from the field as the team was held to its lowest point total of the season. The other game was in the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament when Minnesota manhandled the Boilers 69-42, a game in which the Gophers were up 37-11 at halftime and led by as many as 34 points in the second half. In that contest, Purdue was outrebounded 50-26.
Note: Purdue shot just 37% and was outrebounded 48-27.
Can Duke hit the boards like Minnesota? Probably not, but the Blue Devils are in Michigan State's league when it comes to rebounding. But more importantly, Duke can shoot the ball and put points on the board better than either the Gophers or Spartans thanks to Scheyer, Kyle Singler (17.7 ppg) and Nolan Smith (17.2). And Smith, the guard coming off a 20-point outing against Cal, is decidedly better than anyone Purdue can front him with.
Note: Scheyer scored 18 points; Singler 24.
Last year in the annual ACC-Big Ten challenge, Duke rolled to a 16-point road win against a Boilermaker squad with Hummel in the line-up. It's a big number but I don't mind laying it as the Devils advance to the Elite 8 for the first time since 2004 with a 13-point win.
Final Score: Duke wins by 13, taking a 70-57 decision."
