Of course I can follow, hence I said WTF? Your poker analogy is absolutely horrible

As for "making teams better", that's just begging the question.

Poker is game theory. As are sports. If you understood even an ounce of poker it fits perfectly. But carry on.

I was young when we had the 4 man pitching rotations but pitchers would go every 4th game.

I remember the early 90's when the 5th starter would pitch but would ONLY pitch if a team played for 5 straight days. So if a team played 8 days in a row, the 5th starter would pitch day 5. The number 1 would pitch day 6, the number 2 would pitch day 7, and the number 3 would pitch day 8.

Day 9 would be an off day
Day 10- the number 4 pitches,
day 11, the number 1 pitches
day 12 the number 2 pitches
day 13 the number 3 pitches
day 14 the number 5 pitches

so the number 5 would wait 9 days for his next start.

Now pitchers pitch every 5th game and it doesnt matter with a day off or not.

The Rays figured out go get an "opener" and that changes baseball a little.

I think the 2020 year is a little messed up with pitchers with late start and wanting to keep pitchers fresh for the post season.

I'd still rather have a dominant ace in there over a "bullpen by committee" for the game.

But if you dont have dominant starting pitching, you do what you gotta do

and baseball changed to rules this year to stop with this extending the game bullshit that really brought nothing to the table except the need for more pictures on the roster

It is adorable to listen to some 70 year old guy thinking he knows better. @)

Anytime you want to bet on sports, poker, any sort of gambling you lmk and we will see how it goes.

Doesn't even have to be for money we can do it for bragging rights. I would prefer money, but perhaps i could teach you the other way.

The TB Rays are smoking the Yankees this year thanks to a pitching staff that is literally 2x as deep in ML talent

They are also teaching other teams how to best construct an overall payroll structure that consistently plays .600+

Rays entire ML roster paid less than the NYY top four salary arms

Rays have all but two men (Zunino and Roe) under contract thru the end of 2021 so no worries about losing key roles in offseason

Rays have appeared in as many World Series as Yankees since 2001

This year is just crazy different as we are cramming games in without many days off.

I'll tell you 1 thing. I ACTUALLY like these 7 inning double headers. Games move fasters. I wonder if more doubleheaders will be played in the future with more days off (or until they expand the playoffs)?

More doubleheaders? C'mon man, that's fewer ticket sales and reduced parking revenues. That's never happening in Boston or NYC, although I suppose it don't make much difference for the Florida teams :)

Damn you're dense, if you're talking about me you're wrong across the boards on everything

I've never once seen you post up a bet for me to take, you just make up shit like any average buffoon. I've seen scores of your ilk come and go, just dust in the wind

And I don't need to talk shit

Ticket and parking revenues? Thats NONSENSE

The trick is to have nobody show up at your games at a reduced payroll and then BANK on revenue sharing!!

Baseball is VERY popular down here and not many people here do NOT like the marlins.

The thing is NOT many people (including myself) have the marlins as their favorite baseball team.

I played baseball growing up and my kids play as well so i always like to have a game or MLB network on to show the kids situational baseball and stuff (plus i ENJOY playing DFS)

you youngsters think you’re so smart, but you can’t even come up, with a viable candidate for President. 2 relics over 70 for the big job. Can’t you idiots do anything right ? Dopey millennial hold em playing Know nothings. Maybe play a little 5 card draw or 7 card stud if you even know how to play actual poker .

Why would the pitchers be thrilled that the team saves money on contracts and payroll structure when it affects them directly. Winning is meaningless if it costs them bigger contracts for their services. Tampa Bay pitchers want to go somewhere else to get paid but options are limited as other teams are catching on to this new nerd way of utilizing pitching staffs.

Metro, I confess I approached "Opening Day2020" (July 24) w a highly skeptical attitude as someone who attended his first MLB game in Sept 1969

I still view it as primarily a high level hybrid of exhibition/real season but it has done well to give all clubs a better platform for entering Spring 2021. Like most seasons, I watch or radio listen while working a jobsite to almost every game

Probably helpful that my preferred team remains tops in the American League but regardless there are still plenty of 45+ year old men actively following The Great Game and many of us have fully recruited our 30something sons

That's quippy but probably not overly far afield

Speaking from aspect of Rays, their upcoming decade vision includes construction of a new ballpark, preferably one with a water view in St Pete or Tampa and with a seating capacity of 30k or a bit less

Far more intimate and frankly all that's needed outside of maybe 10 major league cities since attendance of 2million would wholly fuel a roster and payroll that is kept under $130m (current TBR payroll approx $75m)

The bigger money is in television/radio/schwag + (most important) a consistent presence in October when the park is sold out and all kinds of extra merchandising kicks in

Rays have demonstrated that when a TRUE commitment is made to packing and resourcing your MiL system there is very little compulsion to try and "Win Now!" via signing one or more men to a $200m+ deal with AAV of $25m+

Ideal payroll structure

5 men between $12-15m ($70m)
5 men between $6-8m ($35m)
8 men avg $2m ($16m)
20men who avg about $500k....mostly minimums + numerous partial season pay ($10m)

If a dude (or two or three dudes) are upcoming FA and demand $20m+, wave goodbye and everyone else ascends

But that will be infrequent if the younger guys between years 2-5 are smartly evaluated and given fatter than normal extensions in that time frame that can keep them in house for 8 years or more

As for players in their 9th, 10th and further years that in most cases are age 32, 33+ ....again wave goodbye

Overall data on MLB players aged 33+ provides heavy realization that they will infrequently exceed the on-field value of a 25-29 year old who can be locked in at half the salary or lower

Must be a Florida strategy

What fo those amazing programs average? 10k?

Most sports fans don't relish being a minor league program. Although a few evidently relish such an accomplishment

It is reasonable to submit that there is not a single pitcher in the TBRO who "want to go somewhere else to be paid"

Primarily because 90% of their 40manroster arms are aged 28 or younger

And the org is in their fourth consecutive season ranked in Top3 (currently number One) MiLsystems

Snell and Glasnow are under team control thru 2024, Yarbrough thru 2025

The entire roster of batters are under control thru 2021 w most for a couple years after that

But yes, most every team in MLB are desirous of emulating Rays and winning consistently on much lower payrolls

Choptalk Retarded article full of fail...no one could write anything more stupid
Crudbar Hold my beer

one of the dumbest articles I’ve ever read.
whoever wrote that got exactly nothing correct .

Just to pick out one instance .

The writer has a theory that these gm’s are changing the game because they are cheap and don’t want to pay starting pitchers .

Why don’t you take a look at Garret Cole or Steven Strasburg just to name 2.

Starting pitchers are getting paid more now then ever before and it’s not even close .

Not only that , the relief pitcher is also getting a boatload of money due to their ever expanding role in this new day and age of baseball.

20 years ago only the closer got paid big. Now they are paying 7th inning specialist 12 mill a season .

Not too long ago that’s what an ace starter got paid .

One of the dumbest articles I’ve ever read and I’m just addressing one of 3 or 4 issues this clown brings up in the story .

It was probably an article written by an old gm or senior scout who the game has long passed by...
