Doubles won the first set , lost the second one on tiebreak and lost 10-8 in the decider :think2:
Beck won first set 6:1 and was break up in the second set 3 times to lose it on the tiebreak and also lost the third set , what a joke .

16 February

Fabio Fognini vs Nicolas Almagro ( Total games )

My pick is Over 20 games

2.08 units to win 2 units at pinnaclesports

I am not sure why bookies think Almagro will easily beat the young italian here but I dont agree with it . Atleast 6:4 6:4 should be very likely to get our money back with this 20 games line . Fognini didnt get broken single time in his win against Minar where he lost the first set on the tiebreak to win the next two sets . Almagro didnt look so special against Volandri yesterday where Nicolas lost the second set 2:6 and got broken many times in that match . Fognini won over 85 % on his first delivery against Ivo Minar and has been serving really well here . He had 3 tiebreaks in his previous 3 matches in this tournament and one 7:5 set and if we see a tiebreak here again its very likely that we can cover this 20 games line .

I am not sure what happened with Fognini if he ran out of gas or what else because yesterday he had very good stats and today he got owned like a 5 grader out there .

Brasil Open. Costa Do Sauipe, Bahia, Brazil

Start time : 3:45PM (EST)

Carlos Moya vs Nicolas Lapentti ( Handicap )

My pick is Nicolas Lapentti + 4 games

12 units to win 10 units at pinnaclesports + gamebookers + 5dimes

Preview by bullet

Both players were perilously close to going out of the tournament in the last round, Lapentti faced match points against Schwank and Moya was a couple of breaks down in the decider against Hernandez before storming back. Lapentti holds a 3-1 lead in a series that dates back to 1999, the only clay encounter went to Moya and that was the most recent back in '05'. Moya has needed three sets in each of his matches this week and he is yet to find his very best form, Lapentti has had it much easier up until his last match. Clay is a demanding surface and there is a possibility the Spaniard could run out of gas in this match.

It's easy to compare the performances of both players this week. Nicolas Almagro is 4-0 ATS, while Carlos Moya is 1-3 ATS. Almagro is playing well and he had a very tough draw, having to defeat Nicolas Massu, Boris Pashanski, Filippo Volandri and Fabio Fognini. His first serve is a great help to save him from the hardest moments of a match and he has won 79%, 95%, 73% and 85% of the points played on his first serve this week. That's pretty good on clay. Also his returning skills have been very good, as he has won 48% of his return games this week, something remarkable. On the other side, Moya has only taken advantage of his experience to win very close matches the whole week but that won't work against Almagro. Moya defeated Lapentti in the tie-break in the third set yesterday, while Almagro destroyed Fognini by 6:1 6:1, so it's obvious who will be more tired today .

From Flavias blog :

Saturday, February 16, 2008
Hello again everyone!
As you get deeper into the tournament, it's important not to spend too much energy outside of your matches. So I haven't been doing that much - like last night after the match, my coach and I went to a nearby Argentine restaurant for dinner, then I went back to the hotel and watched some TV before I went to bed. It was especially important today, because after a few night matches in a row I had an afternoon one and wanted to be fresh for it. And everything was working well today. I had a good win over Parmentier and now it's about 5pm and my day is finished already. We will probably go to the beach later and have a swim... the water is cold and it's tough to go in at first but after you're in it's good for your body. I'll probably get a massage at some point today too. And that's about it. The final is at 3pm tomorrow, so I won't really do anything else tonight! I just want to relax. Maybe I'll go to the hotel and call my friends at some point too.
It's going to be a tough match against Zakopalova - she has been playing well this week and it's always tough to beat her. She has been in so many finals so she will have as much experience as me as well. I just want to enjoy this moment because it is not every day you get to play the final of a tournament. But I feel my forehand, backhand and serve are all working well, so hopefully I can keep playing like this.

Flavia Pennetta is playing extremely well this week and she is yet to drop a set: 6:2 6:2 vs Greta Arn; 6:4 6:0 vs Mathilde Johansson; 6:3 6:3 vs Kaia Kanepi; 6.2 6:0 vs Pauline Parmentier. This will be the 9th final of her on a WTA tournament played on clay and the 7th played on the American continent! The Italian player really likes the conditions and her performances in here are showing exactly that. Her opponent will be Klara Zakopalova, who is known for her terrible attitude on court. If she starts losing today, it will be very hard for her to get back on track against such an experienced player. The Czech player didn't have to beat anyone with the level of Pennetta, while Pennetta had to beat some players with the level of Zakopalova. The Italian player is too experienced to not take advantage of this opportunity to win another title .

What kind of joke was this in the match between Flavia Pennetta and Klara , UNREAL ! How did he retire a set down and 5-4 down in the second set , thats pretty lame ! How do you dare to retire with probably just 1 more game to play in the finals ? :think2: This cost me 10 units profit because at pinnaclesports and gamebookers only Almagro win counted for my parlay . :WTF:

18 February

ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament. Rotterdam, The Netherlands

Start time : 5:00AM (EST)

Matthias Bachinger vs Michael Berrer ( Set betting )

My pick is Michael Berrer to win 2 : 0 sets

3 units to win 2.76 units at betfair

Preview by bullet

Bachinger took Baghdatis to 3 sets on clay last year but it was 5 months after that before he showed anything like that form and it was indoors where he went on to win the Louisville challenger beating some useful opposition in Young, Isner and Kendrick. His form since then has been pretty poor, mostly at challenger level but perhaps he needs to be indoors to show his best! When Berrer looks at some of the other ties in the first round he must think his birthday has come early to be playing such a lowly ranked qualifier. He has a useful serve and is competent off the ground, he hasn't been in the greatest form this year but gets a first class chance to reach the second round here.

  • Bachinger has 4-9 record against lefties .
  • His last match against a fellow countryman was in november 2007 against Denis Gremelmayr which Bachinger lost with terrible results : 6-0 1-6 6-1

Both Kohlschreiber and Youzhny lost in the single competition yesterday and I am not sure how motivated they will be to stay in here . Damm and Vizner are very experienced doubles players and I think they should be able to beat the german/russian duo .

Bryan brothers should take this one in two sets rather easily .

Stepanek didnt play many doubles match in the last few years better to say he only played 1 or 2 of them mostly in the Davis Cup . Bhupathi and Knowles are just as experienced as Damm and Vizner and I will be very suprised if they didnt win their match too .

Overall I am banking on the real doubles teams here whos job are doubles tournaments and thats where they gain their winnings so they are for sure here to win their matches and not to tank .

Here are the dogs that I think have decent chances to win their matches:

Martin Vasallo Arguello vs Nicolas Almagro

Agustin Calleri vs Juan Monaco

Albert Montanes vs Igor Andreev

Santiago Ventura vs Juan Ignacio Chela

Denis Gremelmayr vs Sam Queer EY

That are just my thoughts so lets see if somebody out of this list really wins .

Been looking at this match for 2 days and finally decided to pull the trigger . Not much time for a write up now but here it is :

  • Head to head : Benjamin Becker Marcos Daniel 6-3 6-2 on same surface
  • Marcos Daniel is 0-3 on Indoor hard , he is a real clay court player and not suited at all for faster surface .
  • Becker beat Safin here last year and got to semis where he lost in a close match to Ivo Karlovic .
  • Benjamin Becker very solid on this surface .

Only thing speaking against Becker is that he has lost few matches in a row now but against tough competition tho : Llodra , Djokovic , Bohli , Kunitsyn . These guys are no joke and its not a real shame if you lose to them . Today Benjamin will be very happy to finally face a weaker opponent and will get his job done .

Horrible stuff for my last bet . Becker easily won the first set 6:1 just as awaited , led 3:0 in the second set with 2 breaks up and Daniel retired , not that he really had an injury , he has nothing to do on hardcourts and obvious just showed up for a paycheck .

When Fognini met a top player he got owned big time and this was last week against Almagro . Nalbandian looked good against Luczak and I can hardly see him with problems against the young italian who looks promising but he still isnt ready to beat a player like David in his home country .
