WTA San Diego, California 5:15 pm et--hardcourt

N Petrova (RUS) -184 over A Chakvetadze (RUS)--3.68u to win 2u..... a battle of compatriots at Centre court in SanDiego, in this second round match. World number 5 Nadia Petrova makes her return to the WTA following a 2 mth lay off, hence the depleted line here. She must get in as many matches as possible before Flushing Meadows and she has her schedule stacked. Before her injury she was top 3 in form on the planet. She does pretty much everyting better than Anna-- better serve, stronger from the baseline, better volleyer. For a tall girl, Petrova also moves around the court quite well. 33-8 ytd , 18-6 on hardcourt, including 4 tiles in a breakout year. She has wins over Justine and Amelie ytd..........19 yr old Chakvetadze marks San Diego also as her return from a bit of a layoff. She has one match under her belt , a win over Kostanic in straights, despite dropping serve twice. In the last two years Anna has NOT BEATEN a top 10 player in ten tries, 0-10, she'll try again today........of course, the concern in this match is how rusty Nadia will be; perhaps she gets off to a poor start, but 'hopefully' as she has done all year she once again beats a player 'she should beat'.......

Katie's debut on CBS news 9/05 (cris)

Risking:10To Win:40
ON:09/05/2006@05:00 PM TOTAL VIEWERS CBS EVENING NEWS SEPTEMBER 5TH [4] BETWEEN 7.5 AND 8.0 MILLION +400

Risking:20To Win:137
ON:09/05/2006@05:00 PM TOTAL VIEWERS CBS EVENING NEWS SEPTEMBER 5TH [6] MORE THEN 8.5 MILLION +685

Katie gets 7.5-8.0 million viewers 1 unit +400
Katie gets over 8.5 million viewers 2 units +685

Currently ABC and NBC are pulling about 7.25 mil with CBS bring up the rear around 6.5 mil. viewers a night.(http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/la-et-news12jul12,1,4674005.story?coll=la-headlines-entnews&track=crosspromo) I think Katie's debut brings at least 7.5 mil viewers (if only for a night).

Update:
9/5 is an excellent time to get eyeballs wathcing the eye network . 9/4 is when many kids go back to school. Hence, families are not on vacation and more likely to be home doing the dinner thing which on this particular day might include a peek in on America's sweetheart, Ms. Couric :pucking:.
How big the audience will be will factor on what "news" happened the previous days. If a big story breaks, I think Katie's ratings soar.
Over 8.5 is now at +450 not liking those odds. If I were to bet this today, I would go with 7.5-8 +400 or 8-8.5 +475.

hope I don't keep posting losers, off to a poor start with Petrova losing in her return. A CLINIC by Anna serving, really out of skin--she outserved Petrova!!! her frist win over a top 10 player in 11 tries last two years, hats off to her.......

10:30pm San Diego WTA

M Hingis (SWI) -5 games -145 over F Pennetta (ITA)......these two have met 3 times in '06, wow. Flavia beat Hingis at Gold Coast in early Jan, ie. at the start of Hingis' comeback--Martina is a different player now. They have met twice since both ON CLAY (Flavia's surface of choice) with Hingis winning both in straights, both covering this line. Hingis has a match under belt an easy win over American Tu, not losing her serve once. In her last 15 match WINS Vs the line -5 Martina is 11-2-3........Pennetta is a solid clay courter, queen of the Tier III/IV events, a la Smashnova; her winning % sighnificantly drops when she hits the hardcourt. Mentally, tactically Martina should have little trouble this evening.....

Presto, sorry about Robredo. How the heck does he lose so easily to Mayer on clay? no fight?? maybe he had TMS Toronto already on his mind, who knows. I'll be at The Rexall Centre for Sunday (qualie matches) and Wed (second round). Will post any good info if available.

Hingis wins and covers, so that's nice. Flavia broke her 3 times in the second set, mercy.

1 play for me, no time for right up goes off 3:00pm, Acura Classic San Diego

ALG/Shaughnessy -170 over Huber/Mirza

Hey Hope,
I don't know what was up with Robredo yesterday. But this Florian Mayer is looking strong as today he spanked Juan Ignacio Chela straight sets.

Nice call on Hingis. I know even less about the ladies and can't find as much information so I didn't wager on it. But I was watching the score thinking Hingis had no chance of covering after losing the second set. But she pulled it out.

I didn't catch ALG/Shaughnessy -170 over Huber/Mirza in time and see you have posted it won. Where can I find the results? I can't find them on Yahoo or Livescores. I assume it was played today the 4th.

Look forward to hearing your report from Rexall Centre on Sunday and any picks you might have for us.

BTW, are you a tennis player, an instructor, or a big fan? You seem to follow this sport more than the casual observer such as myself.

Presto, I often use livescores.com as well but if i'm at home I follow matches at the tournaments' direct website: most ATP and WTA events will have livescore tickers to follow, point by point. In addition to following the match, we can see stats for the match and get a 'feel' for how the match went (useful fo rnext day wagering)-- it's certainly not the equvalent of watching the match live, but certainly, better than nothing. I followed the ALG/Meghann match at the Acura classics website. (Livescore doesnt provide scores for WTA doubles or mens Challernger events for that matter). Let me know if you want any useful tennis websites for info, i'll vertainly share.

yes I play the game have played all my life and follow the game a lot, both mens and womens.

ATP Leg Mason Classic, semi final-- match goes off at 2:00pm (in 40 minutes)

A Clement (FRA) +3.5 games -107 over M Safin (RUS)-- not much respect given to the Frechman here. He has 3 convincing wins under his belt, has won all in striaghts including handling L Hewitt. One can never predict what Safin will do, who knows who will show up. I'm certainly happy he's finally playing well and the men's game needs a healthy Safin. He hasn't been dominating, all his match this week tough grinders--his last 4 sets have been all identical scores--7-6, lol (7-6,7-6 over Blake and 7-6, 7-6 over one dimensional Moodie). Tough for me to make sense of this line. Will see.

yep, that line didn't make sense at all. Clement covers it easily, infact wins outright 7-6,7-6. Marat, it's a LONG way back my man. Great playing by the Frenchman, still has yet to drop a set this week--he will go for his second ATP title in '06 tomm Vs the winner of the Tursunov and Murray match.

Hope,
Congratulations on the Clement spread. I need to check this thread more often. You have any thoughts on the Clement/Murray match?
I see Mayer will be facing Davydenko in finals at Orange Prokom in a few hours. Davy is -270. Too much chalk for me at this point. Mayer has kicked my ass this week.

Time to get this show headed the right way. Taking on serious chalk in a 2teamer. I have confidence Montanes breezes by Alessandro, but it's too much for a straight. So, I parlay that with James Blake. Go Blake!

Gasket and Murray are closely matched. Getting games at a low price seems the way to go here.
