Bonus Play Sunday

PANTHERS at TITANS 1:00 PM

Take: TITANS +4.5 (lots of +4 right now as well)

The Titans were very good to me as last Sunday’s Bonus Play in the NFL, and I’ll cast my lot with them again today. The reasoning is pretty much the same, but I’ll also add there are a few other variables I find attractive as well.

First, the confidence and energy levels for the Titans are both as high as they’ve been in some time. That happens sometimes when a team makes a coaching change and gets an immediate good result. It’s as if the past just melts away. These spikes don’t generally last all that long, as the regression to the norm is usually inevitable. But I lost track long ago of the number of times I’ve decided to jump on a team that makes a major organizational change, and I’ve been rewarded more often than not.

The Titans should certainly be revved up for today’s game with the Panthers. They’re off a thrilling win at New Orleans and have a chance to knock off one of the three remaining unbeaten entries in the NFL.

As for Carolina, it’s a dangerous spot. The Panthers are obviously playing well and are the superior team. But there’s a reason almost no one stays perfect in the NFL. That target on the jersey gets larger by the week and the pressure to remain spotless continues to build. The Panthers also have to be wary of falling prey to a letdown today. Carolina is off a statement win against Green Bay, and going on the road to face an also-ran like the Titans is the type of spot where road chalk can get knocked off.

If you’re just working off the math, it’s difficult to generate much support for backing the Titans here. But it beating the NFL was simply all about the math, the favorites would never lose and the sports books would cease to exist. On this particular game, the masses will be on the Panthers, especially now that the number has gone down to a point where Carolina really looks inviting. But I will look to ride the Titans train after cashing a ticket with them last week. I expect them to battle the Panthers tooth and nail, and I’ll take the points today with Tennessee.

Lions vs Packers

Bonus Play Green Bay Packers

Stafford can't get comfortable and try to just sit back in the pocket all day, waiting for his guys to get open. This front line with Julius Peppers and Clay Matthews firing the gap is going to terrorize him. It's going to be very important for David Bakhtiari to block Ezekiel Ansah when he comes firing in. Once that happens it will be a very long day for Detroit, in Lambeau. Detroit is 1-7 ATS in its last 8 games and the team has all kinds of issues on both sides on the ball. I look for Green Bay to get back on track with a big win here Sunday.

Celtics vs Thunder

8* NBA Free Pick Oklahoma City Thunder

The Oklahoma City Thunder are off three consecutive blowout wins, and I like them to cover the spread when hosting the Boston Celtics Sunday. Boston has been decent of late as well with three wins in its last four games, but its just 1-6 ATS in its last seven Sunday games and 2-5 ATS in its last seven games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record. Oklahoma City is the second highest scoring team in the league at 113.3 points per game and leads the league in rebounds at 50.8. Kevin Durant will be a miss for the Thunder here, but Serge Ibaka is averaging 17 points over his last two games while making all four of his attempts from behind the arc.

Green Bay loses on the road at then-unbeaten Denver, and last week at still-unbeaten Carolina, but today they come back home and entertain a division-rival they have flat-out owned.

The last time Detroit was able to win outright at Lambeau Field was way back in 1991! You heard me correct...1991 last Lions straight up win, and the points have not made much of a difference of late, as Green Bay has covered each of the last 4 played at Lambeau, and they are 6-2 against the spread overall the past 8 series meetings.

Detroit is off a bye, but with just 1 straight up win for the year, and a spread mark of 1-7 on the season, there is likely no amount of points they could give this dog to make me interested in taking a shot with them!

The Packers are 9-2-1 against the spread their last 12 at home, so look for Green Bay's 2 game losing streak to come to a halt this afternoon against the lowly Lions.

Packers to name it.

Your Sunday freebie is the Bears-Rams Under the total.

Chicago has scored 23 points or less in all but one of their games this year, as the Under has come in 4 of the last 6 times they have been on field. With the Rams being able to pressure the quarterback the way they do, this in NOT a good matchup for Jay Cutler in the Gateway City this afternoon.

St. Louis just played their 4th straight Under last Sunday at Minnesota, and for the year the Rams are 6-2 Under the total.

Look for the points to be at a premium this afternoon at Edward Jones Dome, as the Rams have gone 9-3 Under overall their last dozen games dating back to last year, while the Bears have played Unders in 4 of their last 5 on the road.

This one will not top 35 combined points, and will be one of the lower-scoring game on the Week Ten slate.

Bears-Rams Under.

Your Bonus Play of the day is the Jacksonville Jaguars plus the points over the Baltimore Ravens.

At the time of this writing, the Jags are catching around 4-5 points in Vegas and offshore.

I have to admit... I'm mildly surprised at how competitive the Jaguars have been this season. If you look back at their entire schedule so far, the only time they've been truly overmatched was in Week 4 at New England when they were blasted, 51-17. Other than that they've been competitive in every other game in a schedule that is one of the harder schedules in the NFL.

They're starting to run the ball better with rookie TJ Yeldon and you've got to be impressed with the play of QB Blake Bortles and their corps of receivers.

Defensively they have some holes, but I'm not so sure the Ravens have the firepower to be able to run away from them at any point in the game. Even if the Ravens get up by two scores late, I have full faith that the Jags clearly have the offensive firepower to backdoor with a late TD drive.

Take the Jags plus the points as your Bonus Play of the day.
