MLB Free Pick:
Boston Red Sox @ Atlanta Braves
The Boston Red Sox and the Atlanta Braves have scored a grand total of six runs combined in the first two games of this series with Boston winning both games by scores of 4-1 and 1-0, and given this pitching matchup, do not expect much more scoring today.
Tommy Hanson was already anointed as the future ace of the Atlanta staff well before he was called up to the Major Leagues, and he has lived up to the hype thus far. After a shaky Major League debut that could be attributable to nerves, Hanson has been great in his last three outings, allowing only two runs in 17 innings including tossing 11.1 scoreless innings in his last two efforts. He will be tough on all teams his first time through the league.
Now we have been down on Boston starter Brad Penny for most of the year, as he was not pitching well early on and was bailed out by the Red Sox offense time and again. However, his last three starts make his 6-2 record look more legitimate, as he has allowed a total of three earned runs and 15 hits in 16.2 innings over those outings.
Aside for the recent pitching lines of the hurlers today, neither team is exactly tattooing right-handed pitching lately, with Boston batting just .233 vs. right-handers in the last 10 games and Atlanta batting a modest .252 against them in this same span.
Look for the Under pattern from the recent meetings between these clubs to continue today.
