I don't even know how to begin to remove people from the welfare rolls. You can't just say go get a job. How in the hell do you live off of 6 to 10 bucks an hour? Some of these people just pass on poverty like an inheritance, from one generation to the next.

Most of these people have quit school and can't really get a decent job. Somehow this country has got to stop the cycle.
Start by stopping Importing Labor in the form of legal Immigration over here at the rate of 2 1/2 million (Equal to a City the size of Philadelphia)every 2 years & further flooding the job market...Make ANYBODY on welfare work...I think they call it workfare. Why don't the aclu and all their follower's just go out and find some land to call their own, teach and do what THEY wish to in "their" little country and wait and see how many people want to move there with them to live such great lives that can be controld by them.....????come on, there is still plenty of land out there....

edge

We already did that. The land is called The United States of America. And we can't stop people from wanting to come here, even if they have to swim with a suitcase on their back

ACLU Tells California Voters to Shove it
Written by Nedd
Tuesday, 11 November 2008

(Editor’s note: please be sure to read the section below this item that does not directly pertain to the ACLU.)

After the election of a certain Democrat senator from Illinois to the presidency, we announced that we would call it a day since from all indications it would appear that this individual will use the power of the federal government and his own henchmen to shut down this website. It still may occur. But for the moment, given the recent turn of events in California, we think that being silent is detrimental to what is at hand. And so we are speaking out as we think we should in deference to the 1st Amendment.

The cost of retaining a domain is about $50 per year, so I'm thinking that either the anti-Americans who were donating didn't give up much jack or else NEDD made out like a fucking bandit.

Reminds me of that Phillip Berg and how he's sucking dollars out of Obamaphobes in support of his utterly fruitless quest to see Obama's birth certificate

The American Civil Liberties Union, impacted by the unfolding economic crisis, laid off ten percent of its national workforce this week. Thirty-six staffers lost their jobs, including five in the Washington, D.C. legislative office, a source familiar with the firings told the Huffington Post.

A source in the ACLU's Washington office confirmed that there had been layoffs, but couldn't confirm the details. The ACLU has two separate Washington offices: a local branch that works on District of Columbia issues and an arm of the national ACLU, which works on legislative issues. The layoffs impacted the legislative office -- though the District office is not necessarily immune to a budget shortfall.

The loss of the staffers means a likely reduction in influence for the civil liberties organization just as Democrats begin to push a legislative agenda as ambitious as any since the mid-sixties. Liberal advocacy organizations have been hit hard across the board by the economic downturn, as donations have fallen off and returns from investments have gone negative.

UDPATE: Anthony D. Romero, executive director of the ACLU, issued a statement to the Huffington Post explaining the layoffs. Two foundations that had heavily backed the ACLU were wiped out by fraudulent hedge-fund manager Bernard Madoff.

"Like many organizations today, the ACLU is feeling the impact of the tough economic climate which has resulted in a decline of our assets and reduced the donations and grants that we rely upon to fund our activities, including those from two foundations that were wiped out by the Bernard Madoff scandal. We take very seriously our commitment to our donors and members who count on us to defend the constitutional rights of all Americans, even in difficult financial times. To safeguard the fiscal health of the ACLU and ensure that the vital work of defending civil liberties continues, we have taken a number of steps to cut expenses and streamline our organization, including instituting a hiring freeze, limiting travel, cancelling conferences, and reducing non-personnel costs, resulting in savings of more than $9 million. Unfortunately, additional measures were needed and as a result, the ACLU National Office has been forced to eliminate 36 staff positions, which represents 10% of the current staff. Although we did everything in our power to avoid taking this painful step, it was necessary in order to protect our long term viability and ensure that the ACLU has the flexibility and strength to meet the challenges ahead. In addition, we are freezing salaries for the next fiscal year, which will save an additional 11 positions, and our executive director has voluntarily reduced his pay by 15%. We are confident that making tough financial decisions in the short term will serve to strengthen the organization for generations to come," said Romero.

UPDATE II: Sources familiar with the ACLU's situation say that the two major foundations were the JEHT and Picower Foundations, which were wiped out by Madoff. Another major ACLU donor, Peter Lewis, has also been pounded by the economic crisis. Lewis' centrality to the funding of progressive organizations is hard to overstate. The name of the ACLU's Washington office is "The Peter B Lewis Center for Civil Liberties."

No we cant stop anybody from "wanting" to come here but we can & will stop them from coming here in such great & overwhelming numbers or were going to be living in a 3rd world country real soon if we arent already....Plain & simple we cant take everybody in lest we ruin our own country for future generations.

Thanks to groups like NUMBERS USA, there has not been any significant alterations to legal immigration since the late 1980s.

So if you've got some top secret plan on how you're going to reduce legal immigration with the support of the US Congress, it might be time to break it out.

I don't have any secret plan BM all I can do is educate & get the word out & keep up the activism...We stopped the Illegals from getting amnesty last summer & thats a giant step in the right direction.

Keep up the activism to do what?

There's been no significant change to US immigration policy since the late 1980s. Every attempt to sensibly modify current policy is shut down by groups like Numbers USA.

Thus, we can expect for everything to continue just as it has for the past 20+ years unless some fresh thinking is interjected beyond the lament of "too many immigrants!!"

I need a Lawyer to sue them on behalf of everybody they fucked over....Think they can help me on that?

Your biggest obstacle there is that in the vast majority of cases the ACLU takes on, they win because they're on more solid legal ground than their opponents.

I mean...duh

I watched the NumbersUSA video when it was first produced and my first question was, "What do you propose to do differently?"

To which NUSA has no answer save for to impede every attempt to modify current policy.

And the beat goes on

They complain because the Legal Immigration numbers are too high + No more anchor babies + No more jobs from greedy employers wanting captive imported illegal slave labor...The Laws are already on the books they are not being enforced so no need for any "reform" except to reduce the numbers & cut out the freebies at taxpayers expense....This is all in the Immigration thread anyways.Think about it next time youre sitting in a traffic jam down there in Tampa area..Enjoy that Florida weather its colder than a welldiggers U know what up here right now....

I don't sit in traffic jams since I do 98% of my driving off of freeways and thus always have alternative routes.

Ending the "anchor babies" requires an amendment to the US Constitution. How's that effort going?

Think about it why should you have to use alternate routes in the first place? California's been that way for years..Ever tried to get thru Atlanta?..Have fun.........Anchor babies?..Many many groups including Womens groups tackling that issue....
