Aroldis Chapman on whether he believes his 30-game suspension was fair: "I accepted the decision. I have to take responsibility for it and basically move on. I want to take this opportunity, and I want this to be very clear. I'm apologizing because the use of the gun, it was bad judgment on my part. But I also want to say that I never hurt my girlfriend. I want this to be very clear. I'm taking this punishment because of my bad judgment, something that I definitely want to put behind me and move on."

Not even Freddy Galvis' windshield was able to withstand a batting practice home run ball from the young Phillies slugger.

When you make a trade with a guy like Shelby Miller, those are the kind of guys you WANT to get back." -- Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez on the impression made already by Ender Inciarte, Aaron Blair and this guy.<figure class="feed-item-figure ">

Aaron Altherr, projected as the Phillies' Opening Day rightfielder, apparently injured himself trying to make a diving first-inning catch of an Ender Inciarte double. Left the game after the bottom of the first. No further information at this time.

Tigers ace Justin Verlander was encouraged by first start of the spring. Threw two scoreless innings, feels healthy. Looking forward to getting into his normal five-day routine. Asked about the three HBP's between Tigers and Yankees past two games, he said: "I don't think either was on purpose. Nor was mine." When injuries result, though, as with Cameron Maybin (broken wrist), it's tough to not get upset: "You have a guy get hurt, tension is there."

There's no such thing as easing in slowly for Mike Trout. After going 3-for-3 in the Angels' Cactus League opener, he flied out to the 410-foot mark in dead center field in his first plate appearance against the Cubs on Friday. Who needs spring training?

Jenrry Mejia, the first player to be permanently suspended by MLB after testing positive for PEDs for the third time in a year, told the New York Times through an interpreter: "I felt there was a conspiracy against me. I feel that they were trying to find something to bring me down in my career."

Tigers 2b Ian Kinsler said he's fine after being hit by pitch during Tigers 3-0 win against Yankees. Didn't feel there was intent. Neither did manager Brad Ausmus. Still, he's not happy about the frequency with which it has been occurring: "We won't take kindly to it if it continues."

Addison Russell homered on Friday continuing a positive trend in the batter's box this spring. He's been the most impressive Cub at the plate during batting practice sessions. Joe Maddon said he was surprised by Russell's power after hitting 13 home runs last year to go along with 29 doubles. Those numbers should increase in 2016.

Shannon Forde, 44, a beloved member of the New York Mets media relations department for over two decades passed away tonight after a long battle with breast cancer. "Shannon was a very unique person," said Mets COO Jeff Wilpon. "I was fortunate to see her a few weeks ago at the rehab facility and had a great time laughing and visiting with her for over an hour. My condolences to her husband, John, two children, Nicholas and Kendall and the Dalton and Forde families. Citi Field won't be the same without her contagious smile and genuine personality."

Not everyone showed up to spring training in the best shape of their life. Remember Hank the Dog, the unofficial mascot of the Brewers? Internet rumors suggested the Brewers were trying to pass off a different dog as Hank. Now the Brewers say he's just gained weight. Hmm ...

The offseason acquisition will not start Saturday's split-squad game against the Rangers as he'll make his first start of the spring Wednesday vs. the Rockies. "There is nothing wrong with me physically," Cueto said. "The manager made the decision."
