One of the things some of my friends don't know is I'm a 80s pop/new wave fan not all of it but some of it. They can deal with the Hall and Oates and stuff but when I put on "Steppin' Out" or "Africa" I get some strange looks. Funny that some people don't know, some of the music they listen to today is sampled from these genres.

Alot of people wouldnt know that Steppin out was Joe Jackson, and Africa (a great song) was by Toto....

I know ALOT of one hit wonders and 80's trivia.....more than i probably should....was a great era for music...

Loved bands like petshop boys, naked eyes, the thompson twins, the motels

Yeah like Pet Shop and Thompson Twins too, maybe know the songs of the other bands you mentioned. Answer this one for me: What is the difference between new wave and synth pop? Are they pretty much the same?

:lolBIG: this is a funny topic, thinking back..I use to crank up 'Ride like the wind' by Christopher Cross when I first got my license...also use to listen to Marvin Gaye's Sexual Healing when the boom boxes first came out....not that Marvin Gaye isn't cool, just funny that i use to blare that song on my boom box, I am sure we all had one, we use to carry around with us.
oh the things we use to do.:puppy:

Not really sure of the "technical" differences go2.....I mean groups like Devo were considered "new wave" where synth pop, was just what it said, the overuse of synthesisers to enhance the music, basically the kind of song that sounded alot better on the radio, than in concert....LOL

Motels did "only the lonely", and a couple others,

Naked Eyes was famous for their one hit "Promises, promises" which was an awesome song, back then....

Here are some more one hit wonders, can you tell me who sang them?

"Too Shy, shy"
"Video killed the Radio Star"
"Come on Eileen"
"You Spin me round"
"people are people" ** not a one hit wonder
"I know, there's something goin on" ** Jman might know this one
"Somebody's Watchin me"
"Bas-ket-ball"
"Electric Avenue"
"Centipede"
"Suave'"
"She Blinded me with Science"
"Obsession"
"Let the Music Play"
"I touch Myself"
"I ran"

Well I guess I'm more of a synth pop guy more than new wave. Now I will take your quiz w/o cheating. I know some of these.

Somebody watchin' me is Rockwell who happens to be Quincy Jones' son
Basketball would be Kurtis Blow
Centipede is Rebbie Jackson
She Blinded me with Science is Thomas Dolby
Obsession the song sound familiar but I can't remember who did it
Let the Music Play and I touch myself are in my head but I can remember the exact artist. I know I touch myself is by a group whose name starts with a D
I ran is by Flock of Seagulls

Ok back at you with a few 70s and 80s tunes:

Rock Me Amadeus
If you leave
Something about you
Breakout
Baby come back
How long has this been going on
Fooled around and fell in love
Don't dream it's over
Shake you down
Mama used to say
Bette Davis eyes
Oh Honey
Gaucho

NO CHEATING LOL!!!
