Peru at Costa Rica (Wed night Friendly)
Peru with new coach and has selected mostly domestic players. After the 3-0 shocker over Uruguay in Copa America, Peru failed to win again losing to Venez and Arg and drawing Bolivia. Since the WC qualifiers their friendly results have been unimpressive, 2-3-5 total, with 3 of those matches against Ecuador. They played 4 against Concacaf teams drawing Jamaica and TNT, and splitting two games with Panama. None of those teams are at Costa Rica's level and CR will field pretty much their strongest team. They clearly take friendlies seriously and by bringing in several international folks it looks like they are taking this one seriously too. San Jose has been hit with a lot of rain but they will play on an artificial field, so should be in good shape. Peru catches a break because it will be very mild temperature where usually it would not be so kind in late August. You may know Peru was hit with a strong earthquake last week (2000+ dead or wounded) and some regulars dropped out of this game because of family issues resulting from the quake, so players have other things on their minds too. Also because of outer bands of Hurricane Dean, Peru were unable to arrive before today.
From a footballing point of view I rate Costa Rica and Peru pretty even but without their top players (Pizarro, Solano, Farfan, Guerrero) Peru are very weak in attack. If CR would have been more impressive in Copa America I'd be on them strong but they were poor. In that unspectacular Gold Cup they beat only Guadeloupe while losing to Mexico and Canada + drawing Haiti.
