Turn your TV sets to Detroit Sports Network or go to a local establishment because at 7:05PM EST the Tigers are set to host the Blue Jays at Comerica Park. For tonight, we'll be on the Tigers as they look to rebound from back to back losses to this very Toronto team at home. We capitalized on a great spot a couple of days ago as Marcum and the Jays went into Detroit as huge underdogs and came out victorious. Tonight, we're jumping trains and rolling with Motor City.
Jim Leyland and staff elect to start left hander Kenny Rogers tonight. Kenny comes in at 8-9 overall so far this season. His ERA is in the upper 4.00's, but the two starters aren't going to tell the tale of this match up. Rogers is looking for some type of self assurance that he still belongs in this rotation after getting shelled his last three times out. He, along with the rest of this Tiger's team, set up a great spot to wager. This pitching match up was identical on April 18th this season in Toronto (Purcey VS Rogers) and the Tigers waltzed out of Canada with a convincing 8-4 victory. Nothing changes here. The Tigers have a couple guys jumping on and off the DL tonight. Carlos Guillen left Tuesday game against the Jays with back tightness, but is expected to return to the line up in full fashion tonight. Marcus Thames is also dealing with a sore right shoulder, however, doctors predict he too will be capable of pinch hitting or even returning to the line up in full tonight. All teams have injuries, Detroit has enough power to overcome theirs, especially a mediocre Toronto squad.
The Blue Jays will give it to lefty David Purcey tonight. This guy is nothing better than "bad." Purcey got rocked his last time out against this Tiger's team, and a repeat is going to take place tonight. Its almost sad to see this youngster go out with confidence tonight against a pissed off Tiger's squad and try to pitch, our sympathies to him. David comes in at just 1-3 overall for the Blue Jays this season. He's thrown 24.1 innings and has a WHIP of 1.60 and an ERA of 7.45 in those short innings. He's 1-2 his last three starts lasting just 16 innings and giving up 16 hits, accumulating an ERA of almost 6.00. Scotty Rolen of the Blue Jays was placed on the 15 day DL for Toronto yesterday to rest his "troublesome right shoulder"...a key loss for the team.
Odds makers opened this line up real short yesterday, and since it has jumped a bit. With a some simple digging, we're fully capable of grabbing MoTown at -155 on the money line. Detroit flat out gets things done tonight...no ifs, ands or buts about it. This team, this starting pitcher, this fan base, this entire city in general is starving for a victory to get some type of momentum going late in the season. There is no reason to not lay the chalk on a game like this. The statistics, projected line up and everything one can analyze on this match up favors the Tigers in more ways than not. Lay the chalk...we'll be doing so for a 3* / 30 unit wager tonight at CoPa.
TREND OF THE GAME:
- The Tigers are 13-4 in their last 17 Wednesday games.
