Recap: It was clear that at least one man had big money on HOUSTON last night and that was Aaron Brooks. Portland was up 9 with just 18 seconds left and in most cases would have been "game over" as the opponent would have dribbled out to show respect however it was Brooks that decided to score 8 uncontested points including a running 40 foot 3-point shot with time expiring to prevent the Portland cover. This 40-footer with nothing on the line only continues to fuel the ongoing debate "is the NBA fixed?". Although nobody controls whether, or not, the ball actually goes through the basket when launched from 40-feet away it's the fact that Brooks actually launched it with nothing on the line - EXCEPT THE "COVER" of course!

Comment: So let me get this straight - Denver pounds the Hornets by almost 30 last time out as a 6.5 point fave and now the line opens at -6 today?? I don't think so!! Two nights ago it took a career night for Billups, that included 8 of 9 from beyond the arc, combined with a Nuggets team that collectively shot over 50% from the field to make that blowout happen. I am willing to stick my neck out and say they can't repeat that performance tonight, especially Billups!! The Nuggets have been at their worst defensively this year when playing on 2 days rest while the Hornets have been at their best on both ends of the court when playing on 2 days rest. It is easy to fall in love with the Nuggets again tonight and the public is doing just that!! However, the Hornets are 11-1 ATS in their L12 when coming off a 20+ point loss including a PERFECT 3-0 ATS this year!! The Hornets are also an impressive 16-4 ATS in their L20 when coming off 3 or more SU losses!! Meanwhile, Denver is just 2-6 ATS this year when coming off a blowout win of 20 or more points. The Hornets killed me last time out but I am coming right back with them tonight in what I believe will be a SU win!!
My Prediction: New Orleans 97 Denver 92

Atlanta pounded the Heat Sunday night and while the more complete and playoff experienced Hawks won't win this one by 26 points like they did in Game 1, they will again easily cover this price at Philips Arena. Mike Woodson's club is now 4-0 SU/ATS at home in the playoffs the last two seasons and say what you will about Atlanta not being a big NBA town, but the fact is that those that do show up in the stands at Hawks playoff games make a difference. It's clear Joe Johnson, Josh Smith, Al Horford, Mike Bibby, Marvin Williams and the rest of the Hawks feed off the energy in the buiding. Dwyane Wade has too much pressure on himself to beat mostly by himself a more complete team in Atlanta. The only other Heat player in double figures Sunday was rookie Michael Beasley, and he needed 15 shots (a lot of jumpers) to score a whopping 10 points. Jermaine O'Neal is done, Daequan Cook has shot poorly since the All-Star break and the Heat's starting frontcourt was outscored by Atlanta's 47-20 and outrebounded 21-11 two nights ago. All five Hawk starters scored in double figures and backup center Zaza Pachulia had a double-double with 10 points and rebounds. Atlanta has won four of five meetings this year and went 32-10 SU at Philips. They've covered nine of 12 as a home chalk and they'll dunk and race past this Miami team that is only 5-8 SU in its last overall. Hawks by double digits again.

The Nuggets will continue to play solid basketball with yet another home win and cover over the Hornets. They blasted New Orleans Sunday night 113-84 and are now 15-3 SU and 11-7 ATS in their last 18 games. Offensively this team is really clicking having topped 110 points in 13 of those 18 games, but with Dahntay Jones getting physcial with Chris Paul (not to mention Nene and Kenyon Martin inside against Tyson Chandler and David West), the Nuggets are bringing it defenisvely, too. The slumping Hornets have dropped three straight and are 2-7 SU and 3-6 ATS in their last nine overall. They're on further spread slides of 8-20 as a dog, 3-7 on the road and 7-19 as a road pup. Carmello Anthony only had 13 points in Sunday's win, so look for a big effort in Game 2 as he and Chauncey Billups and the rest of the Nuggets again handle New Orleans in the Mile High City.

STRONG PK 2*: Boston Bruins -185

The B's are too dominant to delay this series. They are in full control now. Bruins are 8-0 in the last 8 meetings.

FREE PICK: Chicago Blackhawks +125

This game will be full of penalties but Chicago, in the end, will get the best of the calls tonight. Calgary just doesn't have the skill to beat this team. The Flames are 0-4 in their last 4 games as a home favorite of -110 to -150 and a woeful 0-8 in their last 8 games following a win. Meanwhile, the Blackhawks are 6-1 in the last 7 meetings.
