THE GOLD SHEET

Braves at Rockies
Pick: Rockies

Colorado looks to extend its 2-game winning streak tonight when they play the second game of a 3-game set at Coors. Jorge De la Rosa gets the ball for the Rockies, and he has been good at home this year. The team has won five of his seven starts, although his ERA is 4.10 in those games.

Derek Lowe hasn't been so lucky on the road, garnering a 3-6 mark (team is 4-8) with a 4.96 ERA and high 1.55 WHIP. In his last three road starts he has failed to go six innings. Todd Helton went 4 for 4 for Colorado last night, and Atlanta cleanup hitter Derrek Lee is now 1 for 15. Take Rockies

THE DUKE SPORTS

Oakland (-110) for 2 Units

The A's are turning in good starting pitching and Gio Gonzalez should continue that trend. Gonzalez controls a 2.12 ERA over his last 5 outings while holding batters to just a .169 BA.He sports a stellar 3-0 mark with a 1.16 ERA in 4 starts vs Cleveland. On the other hand, the Indians rotation has been beaten down to the tune of 1-12 with a bloated 5.82 ERA over the last 16 games. They've allowed opponents to bat .329 over that span. And Fausto Carmona has fallen in that rut with a lofty 7.07 ERA over his last 5 outings. With the A's at 6-1 vs starters with a WHIP greater than 1.30, we'll look for Oakland to crank on him. Oakland has gotten the best of this series at 9-2 in the last 11 matchups, and they have a tendency to beat up on the under-performers at 13-5 vs teams under .500.The Indians are just 3-13 vs the ALW with Carmona and should slide further here.

Game: Cincinnati at San Francisco (10:15 PM Eastern)
Pick: San Francisco -110 (moneyline)
Jonathon Sanchez has had a very good year - consistent from start to finish, pitching to a 3.47 ERA for the season. The Ginats, over the past two years, have established themselves as one of the top home teams in basebal at 90-58 in their last 148 played here. The Reds have done extremely well on the road where they are 36-27 for the season. Taking a closer look however, an eye-popping stat is revealed. The Reds are 33-14 on the road vs. teams at .500 or less, but when they face a team over .500, they are 4-12 and got hammered here last night 11-2. I like San Francisco in this one.

1 Unit on LA Dodgers -123
With Lilly stepping to the mound, the Dodgers have the edge tonight. Lilly is 4-0 in his last 4 starts, and he has only allowed 5 hits and given up no runs in his last 2 outings. He has also been lights out in Miller Park, where he has an ERA of 0.64 this season (2 starts), and where he is holding the Brewers to a .176 average in his last 4 starts. Bush takes the mound for Milwaukee, and he is carrying an ERA of 4.62 at home this season. That number is up to 5.19 over his last 3 starts. The Brewers are 0-6 in Bush's last 6 home starts versus a team with a winning record and 0-4 in his last 4 starts versus the National League West. The Dodgers have won 4 of their last 5 in Milwaukee, and I look for them to build on that mark behind Lilly this evening.

The St.Louis Cardinals are in desperate need of gaining ground on the Cincinnati Reds so a series with the lowly Pittsburgh Pirates comes just in time for the Red Birds as you saw in last night's 10-2 smashing by the Cards. Cy Young candidate Adam Wainright takes the hill tonight versus Pittsburgh starter Paul Maholm. Maholm has lost 5 of his last 6 starts while Wainright has only given up 4 earned runs in his last 30 innings pitched. Wainright is making an attempt at being the first 18 game winner in baseball while Mr. Pujols aims for his 400th home run of his career tonight. We're very confident Pittsburgh fans will be seeing red in their sleep.
