Matt Rivers of OffshoreInsiders has Marshall.

Sure Terrelle Pryor is a Heisman Trophy candidate and Ohio State is by ridiculous proportions the superior team on the field today but why are the Buckeyes all of a sudden being deemed as the next coming? Jim Tressel certainly can coach and has a lot of talent but it’s not like this Ohio State squad has exactly been a dominant juggernaut of an offense. Will they win today? Of course they will but Marshall is far from being a cupcake and is a team that is not that bad. I have watched plenty of Marshall’s coming into the Horseshoe over the past few seasons and compete until late with Ohio a few seasons ago being a great example.

The Thundering Herd are a major program as we see the likes of Randy Moss, Byron Leftwich, Chad Pennington and many others in the NFL. No they can’t compare to today’s opponent but they have some blue chip athletes and I’m not all that sold on the Buckeyes. That Rose Bowl victory over Oregon was impressive as Pryor really came into his own but it was only one game. I saw this team last year stink up the joint a lot of times including that debacle in Bloomington against Indiana. One solid win doesn’t make a program, it just doesn’t.

The world seems to be crowing OSU as the best team this year right there with the defending champion Alabama Crimson Tide. I’m just not so sure that is the case. Tressel’s team is still more of a plodding run type team and without being sold on Pryor’s ability to throw all that great I can’t fathom OSU just going out there and winning by four touchdowns plus.

Doc Holliday has already said that they will try and keep Pryor in the pocket limiting his ability to run and make plays on the outside. I like that strategy because the guy is a gazelle who is more dangerous with his feet than his arm. If that plan comes to fruition and Pryor is forced to throw then I am just fine with this play. If not I will still take my chances getting back this much any day of the week.

Matt Rivers pick: OSU wins 31-13 but Marshall covers the point spread

$2200/$2000
136 Ohio State -28.5

With nine returning starters on offense lead by QB Terrell Pryor who dominated Oregon in the Rose Bowl, the Buckeyes are serious title contenders this season. The Buckeyes defense is sharp as well with a fierce secondary that features three senior NFL prospects including the best defensive end in the nation Cameron Heyward. The Marshall defense is getting hurt hard by injuries and with a new head coach at the helm they will find themselves hopelessly outclassed. With the 'U' on the schedule for the Buckeyes next week, we wont lay too much if we catch the Buckeyes looking ahead.

$3300/$3000
143/144 Minnesota/Middle Tennessee State Over 48.5

For the Blue Raiders eight offense starters return this year including senior QB Dwight Dasher who lead an offense surprisingly ranked 7th in the nation last season in total offense. Minnesota returns just two starters and no linemen on defense but has strength in this years offense returning nine starters with the offensive line intact. I expect this game to finish in the high 60's with a shootout starting in the first quarter.

139 Pittsburgh +3

Utah is talented on offense returning twelve starters including six all-MWC performers but are missing a lot on the defense side. The Utes lost its top four tacklers from 2009 and has to replace seven starters on defense, including all three at linebacker and three in the secondary. Projected starter at rover JJ Williams is out with a foot injury, leaving Matt Martinez and Chaz Walker to start alongside converted quarterback Chad Manis. Tackle Koa Misi is also gone, along with his 4.5 sacks. The Panthers only return eleven starters this season but return a lot of quality including the best freshman in the nation last season RB Dion Lewis (1,799 yards 17 TD's). The key in this match-up is that Pittsburgh has a deep, talented defense led by pass rushing defensive end Greg Romeus, who helped Pitt lead the nation in sacks last year. The Panthers, who play a pro-style defense and are known for their aggressiveness, were a top 20 team in scoring defense and rushing defense and No. 23 in total defense. The defense received a big boost when left defensive end Jabaal Sheard was reinstated after being suspended for an altercation during the off-season. It's tough to back an inexperienced quarterback (Started nine games) in a hostile environment but I expect Lewis to get the ball most of the time and run all over this Utes defense. Utah has won 21 of 22 at home versus non-conference opponents and the visiting team hasn't won since Sept. 8th 2007 but we like our chances today.

146 UAB -14

The owls will be especially bad this year after heavy graduation losses they return 3 offensive starters (zero linemen). UAB returns eight offensive starters and ranked 22nd in total offensive last year. I don't think the Owls score in this one.

Marshall Thundering Herd (0-0) at (2) 0hio State Buckeyes (0-0)
Ohio Stadium, Columbus, Ohio

The Buckeyes are definitely the better team with an abundant of talent and should win this battle against the Thundering Herd without difficulties. Ohio State has not lost a home opener in 32 years. However, 28 points is a bit steep. Marshall is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games.
