*Earlier this season the Twins pounded Masterson following his great outing in a 2-0 team win against Oakland. Today is the SAME EXACT situation, Masterson coming off another great 2-0 team win, this time against the White Sox. Situations typically yield the same results and a 14-0 pitcher revenge trend suggests it too.

*Houston did everything I thought they would yesterday, except win! Porcello only an average showing as expected. It’s not often you hold a team to 4 hits in this league and lose! Not chasing the big dog today but have a nice 12-0 bounceback trend behind us. With this series in the bag we could see Detroit concede early if they get down a few runs because they have a division rival series starting tomorrow which carries far more significance than this game.

*Listed Pitchers
*all lines current at time of release and all lines widely available

Larry Ness' 10* PERFECT STORM-MLB (82% since 2013)
My 10* PERFECT STORM is on the Tex Rangers at 8:05 ET.

The Colorado Rockies have laid waste to the Rangers in the first three games of this IL series. After taking the first two games at home (8-2 and 12-1), the Rockies entered the road portion of this home-and-home, four-game series with the Texas Rangers looking to dispel doubts of whether their offense can be just as potent away from Coors Field. Mission accomplished!

Colorado had 16 hits in Wednesday's 9-2 victory in Arlington. The Rockies entered yesterday's game hitting .254 with 16 HRs in 17 road games compared to .355 with 33 HRs in 18 at home but proved their offense can have the same pop no matter the location. Nolan Arenado had three hits, giving him a 27-game hitting streak which ties Michael Cuddyer's run from last season for the Rockies' all-time mark. He's hitting .364 since the streak began April 9 and looks to set the franchise record by hitting safely in a 28th straight game as Colorado seeks to complete a sweep of the Rangers on Thursday night.

However, let me add, NOT so fast! I realize that Texas has lost EIGHT of 10 but the Rangers should reach Colorado starter Franklin Morales. Morales is 3-1 with a 5.05 ERA in seven appearances (six starts). He allowed six runs and a season-worst nine hits in five innings before the Rockies rallied for an 11-10 win over the New York Mets in his last outing. Throw in his previous start and Morales has allowed nine ERs on 16 hits over 10 innings for an 8.10 ERA.

"I just tried to keep competing, you know?" Morales said after his poor outing vs the Mets. "I know we've got a great team here." The left-hander posted a 9.00 ERA in six relief appearances against Texas during his 2 1/2 seasons with Boston before being acquired in a trade for his second stint with Colorado in the off-season.

Texas will give the ball to Matt Harrison. Harrison went 14-9 with a 3.39 ERA in 2011 and followed that by going 18-11 (3.29) in 2012. He was the club's 2013 Opening Day starter but didn't pitch after April 6 of last year, missing the rest of the season with a herniated disc in his lower back. The left-hander went 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA in three starts for Double-A Frisco and joined the Texas rotation back on April 27.

He wasn't bad in his first outing (6 IP / 3 hits / 2 ERs) but labored through his second start of the season Saturday, throwing 96 pitches in 4.1 innings while giving up three runs, 10 hits and three walks in Texas' 5-3 loss to the Angels. "I was lucky I got out of there without giving up 10 runs," Harrison said. "Every inning, it seemed like the lead-off man was getting on base. I was putting myself in position where I had to make perfect pitches."

The left-hander tossed five scoreless innings in a 4-2 victory June 24, 2012, in his only previous start against the Rockies. Harrison is 5-2 with a 2.49 ERA in 14 interleague games (10 starts). Now being a lefty is a key element of tonight's play. I realize the Rockies are in a groove but I will NOT ignore their struggles last year against lefties in all situations (20-33 overall) and in particular, Colorado's struggles in road night games vs lefties. The Rockies were just 3-15 in that situation in 2013, while averaging a WOEFUL 2.4 RPG.

Updating the situation here in 2014 reveals that the rRckies are 1-3 against lefties in road night games this year, while averaging 3.75 RPG. That makes them just 4-18 since the start of 2013 (averaging only 2.68 RPG), for an 82% "go-against." That sounds like a 10* PERFECT STORM to me!
