2009 Fed Ex BCS National Championship Game
Dolphin Stadium, Miami, Florida
50 Units on Florida (-4.5) over Oklahoma
Florida (12-1) vs. Oklahoma (12-1)- This is probably one of the most anticipated championship games in the history of the BCS. Two storied programs, two Heisman trophy winning quarterbacks, two championship winning coaches, the nation's top offense against one of the nation's top defenses, what more could you ask for? Oklahoma comes in led by this year's Heisman trophy winner Sam Bradford. Bradford orchestrated the most prolific scoring offense in the history of college football. He has a plethora of weapons on offense from receivers Juaquin Iglesias, Manny Johnson and Ryan Broyles, to tight end Jermaine Gresham, and leading rusher Chris Brown. The Sooners will be without their most explosive weapon in running back DeMarco Murray however. Murray is a threat to go the distance every time he touches the ball and it's no coincidence that when he took off this year, the Sooners offense took it to another level. Where Murray may be missed most though, is in the return game. While Oklahoma will be without their most dangerous offensive threat, Florida will be welcoming theirs back from an injury. Percy Harvin is expected to play after missing the SEC championship game and most of the Florida St. game. Harvin is the biggest home run threat on the Florida offense, but certainly not the only one. The Gators have a pair of dynamic underclassmen running backs with Chris Rainey and Jeff Demps. Demps is a true freshman, who filled Harvin's shoes nicely in the Alabama game, lining up all over the field and creating mismatches for the defense. With so many versatile weapons on offense, Florida will create all types of problems for an Oklahoma defense that has struggled. The Sooners will have problems matching up with the many different looks from the Florida offense, and Tim Tebow will find the weaknesses in the defense. If Oklahoma expects to slow down the Gator offense the defensive line will have to win the matchup against the Florida offensive line. Gerald McCoy anchors an athletic defensive line, and will need to have his best game of the year. With two high scoring offenses in this game, the outcome could very well be determined by special teams, where Florida has a huge advantage. Oklahoma has struggled terribly in kick coverage, and Florida has one of the best return men in the country in Brandon James. Florida also holds an advantage in the kicking game, although neither kicker has seen much work outside of extra points this year. In the end, it's as simple as this. Oklahoma may have a slight advantage on offense, if any. Florida has a huge advantage on defense and special teams. Look for it to be a back and forth affair early, but the Gators will pull away in the 2nd half. Florida by 10-17.
Best of Luck!
