Comments: The Lakers are back in the NBA Finals for the 2nd straight year, but are hoping for a different ending this time around. Game 1 of the 2009 NBA Finals gets underway tonight, as the favored Los Angeles Lakers will take on the Orlando Magic from the STAPLES Center. The Magic won both regular-season meetings, but that was with a healthy Jameer Nelson (averaged 27.5 points per game on 59 percent shooting against Lakers in 2 games) running the show. Nelson could be available for tonight's Game 1, but it would most likely be in a limited reserve role as he hasn't played since February 2nd with a torn labrum in his right shoulder. Hedo Turkoglu will need to improve his play, as he averaged just 13.5 points per game against the Lakers in the regular season on 38 percent shooting. A huge X-factor for the Lakers will be forward Lamar Odom, who played well near the end of the Western Conference Finals but struggled against Orlando in the regular season (10.5 points per game on 39 percent shooting). Look for Los Angeles to win tonight & take a 1-0 series lead. All Lakers!

Comments: A pair of first-place teams will collide tonight at Dodger Stadium, as the Los Angeles Dodgers will face the Philadelphia Phillies in the first of a big 4-game weekend series. Dodgers righthander Clayton Kershaw (3-3, 4.34 ERA) will go up against Phillies ace Cole Hamels (3-2, 5.21 ERA) in Thursday's opener. Kershaw has been sensational at Dodger Stadium this season, where he has a 1-0 record in 4 starts with a 1.13 ERA. Hamels got pounded in his last start but walked away with a win after giving up 6 runs on 8 hits in 6 innings of work during Philadelphia's 9-6 win over Washington on May 30th. Hamels has also struggled on the road this season, where he is 1-1 in 3 starts with a 6.89 ERA. All Dodgers!

Trace Adams 2000* - LA Lakers, 500* - NY Mets w/Pelfrey over Ohlendorf - 12:35 pm I am not going to sit here and bore you with chapter, and verse on this Orlando-Los Angeles contest, I am here to tell you that I LOVE LA in Game One of this best-of-seven series.Yeah, yeah, I know all about Orlando winning and covering both regular season meetings, and I know all about Jameer Nelson proclaiming himself fit for action. I also know all about the fact the Magic won on the parquet in Boston in Game Seven of the semis, and then bitch-slapped LeBron and the Cavs in the East Finals, I just don't see Orlando hanging in this first game.
Granted, I feel Dwight Howard is going to give the Lakers headaches before this seven game set is over, I just believe strongly Los Angeles is coming out strong in this game, and winning it going away for the easy cover.

The Mets lineup resembles a MASH unit, but I do like them today with Mike Pelfrey going against Russ Ohlendorf.
New York has dropped the first 2 games of this now 3 game set, and with the Phillies winning out west, New York better get on the stick in this game.
Pelfrey is 0-1 over his last 3 starts, but has pitched effectively, as he has allowed just 5 runs over his last 21 innings of work.
His counterpart Russ Ohlendorf has gone 0-2 his last 2 times to the bump, allowing 7 runs over just 13 innings of work.
Look for the Mets to come up with the win in this "must win" spot tonight.
