NY Jets-New Orleans Saints

Both teams are 3-0, but you can argue wins over the Texans, Patriots and Titans leave the Jets a little more battle-tested than the Saints, who beat the Lions, Eagles without Donovan McNabb, and Bills.

The pick: Jets +7.

Giants (-8 1/2) over CHIEFS: The Giants’ average result thus far is a win by 10.7 points; the Chiefs’ is a 12.3-point loss. Both of those are just a little north of this line. Factor in that this is the Giants’ third consecutive road game, a betting red flag, and an 0-3 at home vs. 3-0 matchup, and you can make a case for a tighter contest. Well, maybe you can, but I can’t. G-Men by two touchdowns.

Raiders (+9) over TEXANS: Raiders have had only one truly bad game, last week’s loss to the Broncos, and are allowing 19 points per game in the first three. If they match that, they need to score 10 to cover, a reasonable request vs. a Texans team which is already 0-2 at home and is ranked last in total defense. Tom Cable will have to call some plays, however, that will help JaMarcus Russell improve on his brutal 41.3 completion percentage.

Titans (-3) over JAGUARS: Titans are even more desperate now after last week’s loss to the Jets. They largely outplayed Gang Green but couldn’t overcome a 14-0 ambush and a bunch of dropped passes. Even at 0-3, they are ranked higher than the 1-2 Jags both offensively and defensively.

PATRIOTS (-2) over Ravens: Patriots hope to get Wes Welker back, and his quick, darting routes would be valuable against an aggressive Baltimore defense. Ravens bring the AFC’s top-scoring offense and a 3-0 record into Foxborough, but have lost their past two games there by a combined 44-6.

Bengals (-5 1/2) over BROWNS: Browns are the new Lions. They have lost nine in a row and are playing as if they’re trying to bring a quick end to the Eric Mangini Era. QB change to Derek Anderson won’t help dreadful Cleveland defense stop Carson Palmer.

Lions (+10) over BEARS: Chicago’s average outcome through three games is a one-point win, so it’s asking a lot to give double digits to a rejuvenated Lions team coming off its first win since 2007. Kevin Smith may not play, but Maurice Morris is good enough to test the Chicago defense, which could be down to its third-string middle linebacker.

REDSKINS (-7) over Buccaneers: After being the one to lose to the Lions, Jim Zorn possibly needs a win, preferably a big, easy one, this week to save his job. Not a big fan of Zorn, and the ‘Skins have Clinton Portis and Albert Haynesworth ailing if they play at all, but just can’t back beginner Bucs QB Josh Johnson on the road in his first start.

COLTS (-10 1/2) over Seahawks: Long trip and early start for Seahawks, whose defense has been picked apart the past two games to the tune of 74-percent completions. Looks like smooth sailing again for red-hot Peyton Manning, and it’ll be hard for decent Seneca Wallace to keep up playing behind an ailing offensive line.

DOLPHINS (+2) over Bills: Willing to take a shot with the Dolphins as small home ‘dogs with that big zero in the win column hanging over Bill Parcells, Tony Sparano and a veteran team. Chad Henne might actually be a passing-game improvement over Chad Pennington.

49ERS (-9 1/2) over Rams: Mike Singletary’s Niners are a Brett Favre miracle away from a 3-0 record. Have been backing Steve Spagnuolo early, but when the offense can manage just eight points a game, there’s not much even a defensive whiz can do.

BRONCOS (+3) over Cowboys: Some are calling the Broncos the worst 3-0 team in the league this season — maybe ever. Surely rookie coach Josh McDaniels can get some motivational value from being underdogs at home when his team is undefeated and giving up 5.3 points per game, especially when the Cowboys have had marked problems in each game.

Chargers (+6 1/2) over STEELERS: Perhaps the linesmakers are putting extra emphasis on Steelers’ desperation off two losses, and maybe it’s a trap, but this spread looks a little too large, especially because the Chargers hang in at Heinz. Last year, the Steelers beat them there 11-10 in November and 35-24 in the playoffs, but both games were in snowy or sub-freezing conditions.

MONDAY NIGHT
VIKINGS (-3 1/2) over Packers: All eyes will be on Brett Favre, but the Vikings’ advantages in this rivalry game are: 1. Adrian Peterson; 2. a defense that allows 92 yards per game on the ground; 3. the sack situation (they are near the top with eight, and Aaron Rodgers has been dropped an NFL-high 12 times); and 4. Adrian Peterson.

BEST BETS: Dolphins, Titans, Patriots.

LAST WEEK: 7-9 overall, 1-2 Best Bets.

All my picks for week 4

$2000.00 Take #207 Cincinnati (-5.5) over Cleveland (1 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 3)
Right now we have two teams headed in opposite directions. Cleveland has barely put up a fight in its games this year and the team has already turned on coach Eric Mangini. There is in-fighting in the locker room and this team is almost ready to mail it in on the season and they aren’t even a month in. I think that the Bengals are really starting to believe in themselves after their big upset over Pittsburgh last week and this team is one tipped pass and miracle away from being 3-0. We'll go with the "hot hand" and I like the Bengals by 10 points.

$2100.00 Take #205 Baltimore (+2) over New England (1 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 3)
This is a play from my “99 System” and I think that Baltimore is going to win this game outright. The Ravens have been the best team in football through the first three weeks of the season and they have already gone on the road and beaten a playoff team from last year (San Diego). Baltimore’s offense is clicking on all cylinders right now and they should be able to score some points on a suspect New England defense. Tom Brady has really not looked like himself and I wonder if he is still all the way recovered from his injuries. The Ravens can throw the same type of pressure at Brady that the Jets did only Baltimore is bringing a better offense to this game as well. Ravens get this one outright.

$200.00 Take #219 Buffalo (-2) over Miami (4 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 3)
Miami is now 0-3 and probably just saw its season go down the tubes with the loss of Chad Pennington. Miami is beat up on both sides of the ball and I don’t have a lot of faith in quarterback Chad Henne making his first NFL start. The Bills are 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 games against the Dolphins. For some reason Miami just can’t beat the Jets or the Bills. I don’t expect them to win here either.

$200.00 Take #211 Detroit (+10) over Chicago (1 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 3)
Detroit got its first win since 1997 last week! Now I think that they are going to follow the momentum and give the Bears quite a game. Chicago really struggled to put away a Seattle team that was playing its backup quarterback and was missing a bunch of defensive starters. I have not been really impressed with their wins, as both have come because of missed FGs by their opponents. The Lions have covered four of five in this series and the underdog has been strong at 8-2 ATS in the last 10 meetings. Could it be two in a row for the Lions?

$2200.00 Take #228 Minnesota (-3.5) over Green Bay (8:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 4)
This is my Game of the Week. This is also a play form my “99 System”. I won’t go into details about the system but it has been great so far. I like Minnesota to build off that big win at home over San Francisco last week and I think that playing at home here is going to be a big advantage. I think that Favre is going to be extra motivated to face his old team and his old coach for the first time, and Favre always plays is best on the big stage. The books are trying to bait Packers money by dangling that extra half-point on top of the three. We’re not biting. I like the Vikings by two touchdowns.

Budin 50 dimer

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MONDAY'S PICK 50 DIME

MINNESOTA

Note From Steve Budin:

Minnesota has been a steady -3 1/2 point favorite all week as this play is posted around 1 AM Eastern Saturday morning.

If the line remains -3 1/2, or moves to -4 or even -4 1/2, buy down the 1/2 point in each situation.

Thus, if you reduce the price to -3, and the Vikings prevail by just a field goal, you walk away with a push.

If the price is moved from -4 to -3 1/2, and the Vikings win by four, you get the win.

And if the price is moved from -4 1/2 to -4, a four-point win by the Vikings results in yet another push.

Take it from a former bookmaker and the guy who fathered the offshore sportsbook industry that too many gamblers and handicappers needlessly buy half points on all types of numbers. In this case, however, it's a wise investment strategy, using the power of money - our bulging bankroll - against the bookmaker.

Why not buy a little extra insurance at a few cents on the dollar to protect your investment? As CEO of a multi-million dollar company I can tell you it's the right move, just like I knew it was the right move when as a bookmaker I saw smart players doing the same thing when the opportunity presented itself.

(I love Budin's 50 and 100 dime plays. Of course, he only had one 100 dimer last year. Hopefully he has another this year.)

(I pray I can get this at -3 or better. I love the Vikings here.)

Complimentary Picks and Analysis
Game: Tampa Bay at Washington (Friday 10/02 1:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: Tampa Bay +9 (-120)
These teams are both desperate for a win as the Bucs enter 0-3 and the Skins at 1-2. They know that their division hopes will vanish with a loss here. And yes, Tampa Bay is one of a few teams laying claim to worst in the NFL thus far. But the Skins laying 9 points? What? The Redskins just lost to a team that had lost 19 straight games! Prior to that, they barely beat St. Louis as a 10 point favorite. That St. Louis win came with some luck as the Rams (who have lost 13 straight by the way) fumbled the ball inside the Washington 10 yard line late in the game. So, the Skins could easily be 0-3, and they haven't surpassed 17 points scored in a game yet this season. So an ugly loss to an 0-19 team, and a come-from-behind two-point win over an 0-13 team warrants this line? Change will be blowing in the wind in Washington as Bucs' first-year head coach Raheem Morris is going with QB Josh Johnson in this one. While a QB making his first start may scare some folks, Ben Roethlisberger, JoeFlacco, Matt Ryan and Mark Sanchez have shown that the old stigma assigned to inexperienced QBs is just that - old. While Johnson is not of the caliber of those QBs, his start does not automatically make the Bucs a no-play here. The Redskins have not been able to get it done in this spot as they are 1-7 ATS against teams with a .333 winning percentage or less and 0-5 ATS as a favorite of six or more. As mentioned, the Washington offense has been no where to be found. They have produced just 40 points on the season or 13 per game. The Redskins are on a 3-14-3 ATS run against teams with a losing record. This line indicates that the Redskins are a much, much better team. But, when are they going to show it? The Bucs are 11-2 ATS in their last 13 games following three straight losses and I'm going with them here.
