The Pick > Seattle Seahawks +10

The Analysis > And why not put a little on the Seahawks Moneyline as well? We’ve seen stranger things right? Now we all know what is supposed to happen here, just like we all knew what was supposed to happen when the played New Orleans right? True, the Seahawks are just 2-6 against the line on the road this year or season. And, when they lose it has been by more than 15 points. That’s all fine and dandy. I’m throwing all this to the side after what I seen from them last week in that Saints game. These boys are hungry and don’t mind putting up a hell of a fight when there backs are against the wall. They’ve got nothing to lose at this point but everything to gain. Plus, Seattle will have the confidence they need as they have already beaten them once this season back in October, also at Soldier Field in Chicago.

Now, I grant you that Chicago has tweaked their team since the first time they met and got a couple of their key players back to top form such as Lance Briggs. They’ve got a little more balanced on the offensive side of the ball as they’ve finally committed to the run. Cutler has finally started releasing the ball a little quicker instead of taking those 6 and 7 step drops to find targets. That helped their winning run down the stretch before they lost to Green Bay to close out the regular season. Well we all know about their defensive side of the ball so that goes without questioning.

As for the Seahawks, like I said earlier, they are playing with confidence and that all starts with their field general, Matt Hasselbeck. He had an outstanding game against the Saints last week and that will definitely carry over to this game. Seattle will try to strike early and have a chance to control the tempo of the game as they did before when they played each other. Look for Marshawn Lynch and Mike Williams to have outstanding performances here too. Seattle will play good ball here so make no mistake about it. In their October meeting with the Bears, they didn’t even commit a turnover, and that’s what Chicago is known for as they finished the season tied for 3rd in the league in that category.

Now, winning this game straight up isn’t out of the question at all and for obvious reasons. Another reason is that it happened a couple of years ago too when Arizona knocked off the Carolina Panthers in Carolina. Here are the similarities of that game and this one. The Seahawks are 10-point dogs in this game, the same line that the 9-7 Cardinals faced in Carolina two years ago. The Cardinals had a solid veteran quarterback in Kurt Warner, just like the Seahawks do in Hasselbeck. And the quarterbacks for the home favorites (Jake Delhomme at Carolina, Jay Cutler for the Bears) are both headstrong and prone at times to throw into coverage. Delhomme was picked off five times by the Cardinals in Arizona’s 33-13 win two years ago. Cutler has cut down the number of interceptions this season (16, after 26 last year), but has 6 in the last four games!

Hasselbeck will play and be as sharp as he was in shredding the Saints in the wild-card round. They will take some of the deep shots downfield, just like they did against New Orleans, and that will keep Chicago's defense honest. Cutler will commit turnovers in this game because if he gets behind and tries to play catchup, or he just gets impatient as he’s been known to be, then that will be inevitable. If Chicago loses their form and identity then an outright loss will probably be in the cards for them. If they convert back to their old ways with an unbalanced attack and turn the ball over more than once then this will probably also be their fate. Pete Carroll believes in his Seattle team and will have them ready and playing with confidence. They will not be playing with jitters as they know this team is beatable at their home field and they just knocked off the defending Super Bowl Champ Saints. They will put up points in this game despite the reputation of Chicago’s defense. If the Bears can’t keep up then it will be a long day for them. Seattle is a young, talented team, led by a veteran quarterback and they are hitting their stride at just the right time which is bad timing for the Bears.

Seattle will be able to protect Hasselbeck and give him the time he needs to make smart throws downfield. The Seahawks defense will be after Cutler all day long, pressuring him into making some bad throws and decisions. And, you better believe they’ll be keeping Devin Hester in check. Seattle has been very good this year at pinning opposing teams inside their own 20 on special teams. That will be huge for them here. Even if this is the end of the road for Seattle, they should have no problem staying within the gracious ten points they have been handed!
