Hondo

The Hondo Kiss Of Death worked to perfection for Yankee fans last night as Mr. Aitch went double- draino with the Orioles and Bosawx to boost the deadly deficit to 2,260 bryants.

Today, Mr. Aitch will get down to the niddy griddy with Alabama and UConn and then wing it tonight with the Angels by putting some dinero on Pineiro. Ten units apiece.

500-Unit College FB Book Buster - FLORIDA STATE SEMINOLES

BYU might have bitten off more than it can chew today as the Cougars go to Tallahassee for a matchup with Florida State. Both teams are coming off ugly losses last week, but the Seminoles were losing in Oklahoma while BYU was losing at Air Force. Lay the points and go with Florida State at home today!

BYU hasn’t looked good in either of their first two games. They beat Washington 23-17 in the opener at home, but should have lost had the Huskies been able to finish drives and not make bad decisions on critical downs. Then last week the Cougars lose 35-14 at Air Force as two-point underdogs., getting outgained by 168 yards.

They’ve gotten only average play from QBs Riley Nelson and Jake Heaps, who managed just 88 yards passing against Air Force with no TDs and an INT.

Florida State clobbered Samford 59-6 at home in the season opener, getting 167 yards passing and four TD tosses from Christian Ponder, cashing as 36 ½-point favorites. The Seminoles are 9-3-1 in their last 13 games after a straight-up loss.

These two teams squared off last year in Utah with Florida State winning 54-28 as 8 ½-point underdogs. The Seminoles have won the only three matchups with the Cougars since 1991, going 2-1 ATS in the process. In 2000, Florida State won 29-3 at home but fell short as 27 ½-point favorites.

BYU’s offense has been shaky at best through eight quarters. They aren’t going to have the firepower to stick with the Seminoles. Go ahead lay the points with Florida State.

200-Unit College FB Smart Play - HOUSTON COUGARS

Houston is the offensive juggernaut of the 2010 season, having already beaten Texas State and UTEP by a combined 122-52. The Cougars led the nation in scoring average a season ago and they have picked it right up this season. I love the way QB Case Keenum has looked and there is no way he misses this game at UCLA. Lay the points with the Cougars tonight.

Keenum was intercepted against UTEP last week and was injured trying to make the tackle. He suffered a mild concussion and sat out the rest of the game against the Miners, with his backup Cotton Turner hitting 9-of-10 passes for 69 yards and a TD. But just when you think this team is all pass and all about Keenum, the running game steps up like last week.

RB Bryce Beall ran for a career-high 195 yards and three TDs against UTEP and he will be counted on tonight against UCLA who has struggles against the road teams. The Bruins have allowed an average of 268 yards on the ground in the first two games of the season and they are next-to-last in the Pac-10 in stopping the run.

The Bruins lost 31-22 at Kansas State in the opening weekend and they fell 35-0 at home last week in their Pac-10 opener against Stanford. They have gotten poor QB play from second-year starter Kevin Prince who is just 15-for-38 in two games for 159 yards, one TD and three INTs. He hasn’t completed a pass longer than 35 yards and his running game hasn’t produced anything over 20 yards this season.

While it would be an easier win and cover for the Cougars if Keenum suits up, I’m not worried at all if they have to go with Turner for this one. The key is the inability of UCLA’s offense to move the ball. The Bruins are on ATS skids of 1-4 at home, 2-6 against winning teams and 2-5 after a straight-up loss. Houston is on positive ATS streaks of 4-1 in non-conference games, 4-1 in September contests and 4-0 against teams with losing records.

Lay the points and go with Houston in this one.

100 Units College FB Texas Tussle - TEXAS LONGHORNS

This annual rivalry resumes tonight in Lubbock with the Longhorns having won six of the last seven. The only loss for Texas in the last seven years was the crazy finish to the 2008 game when Texas Tech scored a 38-33 win as a 3 ½-point underdog.

The Longhorns are going to win games with defense and the running game this season. They have won the first two by a combined 68-24, beating Rice and Wyoming. Against Wyoming last week, QB Garrett Gilbert threw for 222 yards and a TD, while they also go rushing scores from Foswhitt Whitaker (62 yards on seven carries) and Cody Johnson, 46 yards and two scores.

Defensively, Texas held the Cowboys to just 58 yards rushing on 30 carries, a 1.9 yard per carry average. And the Longhorns held Wyoming to just 3-for-12 on third down.

Texas Tech edged SMU in the opener 35-27 and failed to cash as 12 ½-point underdogs, then last week the Red Raiders went to New Mexico and beat up the Lobos 52-17. But the Lobos might be the worst team in college football and yet they still outgained Texas Tech in the game.

Texas is going to get it done with defense against the high-octane Red Raiders. I expect Texas QB Gilbert to go out and get it done in his first start on an opposing teams’ home field.

Of course Texas’ defensive backs will be tested tonight by Tech QB Taylor Potts who has seven TDs and no INTs going into this one. But these DBs are all very familiar with what happened to them in 2008 when Michael Crabtree grabbed the final TD in the closing seconds.

Texas will make the big plays on defense and their offense will do enough to get the win and cover here. Texas Tech still has a lot of question marks, so go ahead and lay the chalk with the Longhorns.
