Gold Sheet
Atlanta 100 - WASHINGTON 92—
Both of these teams played last night and
have had opposite results when unrested. Washington is 2-4 at home and 2-4 in
its last 6 in 2nd night of back-to-back games, while Atlanta has covered 9 of 14
chances on the road in that situation. This series has looked like a match
between UFC heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez facing off against some drunk
Wisconsin student in a parking lot. The Hawks have won 12 in a row against the
Wizards, covering 8 of the last 10. This time around, Atlanta has nothing to play
for, as the Hawks are set in the 5th spot in the East and will go to Orlando for a
first-round playoff series. Washington is getting a bit of a year-end boost as
Wizards try to sort out their future (GM Ernie Grunfeld, HC Flip Saunders, leading
scorer Nick Young might all be gone). However, Atlanta’s superior defense
travels well, as Hawks yield just 94 ppg on the road, and Washington players
have their bags packed for vacation. 10-ATL -9 99-95 (195), ATL -7' 116-96

MILWAUKEE 95 - Cleveland 84—
Tech factors line up for Milwaukee in this
one, as both teams are coming off games last night (Cleveland hosted Chicago
while Milwaukee visited Detroit). The Cavs are just 4-9 when unrested on the
road this season, although they did cover the last two. Milwaukee is 5-2 since the
All-Star break playing without rest, and the Bucks are 10-6 against the number
laying 4 pts. or more at home. Admittedly the Cavs have been resurgent in the
last month, covering 7 of last 11, and some members of the team are extremely
upbeat, as Baron Davis is singing the praises of some younger players and the
game Samardo Samuels wants to return and play even though he’ll need surgery
after the season. Bucks' work ethic under HC Scott Skiles has been solid, and
several players are playing hard for the future, as several regular contributors
(Delfino, Mbah a Moute, Douglas-Roberts) are out of contract. 10-CLE +1' 83-81

HOUSTON 108 - LA Clippers 96—
Revenge game for Houston, after Clipper
G Eric Gordon and C Chris Kaman combined for 45 points in a 3-point L.A. win
at Staples Center in last meeting. The Rockets had won and covered both prior
games against the Clips this season and are 10-4 vs. the number last 14 in the
series. Rockets still not eliminated from the playoffs prior to Friday’s results, and
Houston has pounded “C” teams like the Clippers at the Toyota Center this
season, covering 10 of first 15 chances against the league’s bottom third. The
Rockets have an edge in the series despite the fact that Blake Griffin (14.3 rpg vs.
Houston) and C DeAndre Jordan (13.7) have pounded the boards facing the
Rockets. Rested Houston will remember loss to the Clips, and L.A. just doesn’t
take good enough care of the ball (only Minny commits more turnovers). 10-Hou

SAN ANTONIO 96 - Utah 95—
Now that San Antonio put together a little
winning streak and has clinched the top seed in the West, we’d be surprised if
Spur HC Gregg Popovich didn’t sit his All-Stars altogether or at least greatly
reduce their minutes in the last few games. This is an interesting scheduling spot
for the Spurs, as they’ve had two days off since destroying Sacramento and have
a few more days off before facing the Lakers and Phoenix (back-to-back) to close
the regular season. Winning this game is a low priority for Popovich, who has
shown repeatedly he has no qualms about sitting his stars (sometimes for no
particular reason). Utah is playing out the string of its most disappointing season
in memory, as the Jazz’ meteoric fall in the second half of the season has been
a spectacular flameout. Still, the Jazz have shown flashes of life, particularly a
pair of solid efforts against the Lakers (Utah led by double-digits at home before
losing and then upset the defending champs a few days later in Los Angeles).
Jazz have found some bench scoring in Butler rookie Gordon Hayward (16 ppg
& 54% last 3...boy the Bulldogs could’ve used him against UConn), and Utah
should have PG Devin Harris back in action (scheduled to play vs. Portland
Thursday). 10-San +2' 94-82 (203), San -3' 112-105 (197); 09-UTAH +1 113-99

DENVER 123 - Minnesota 94—
Denver is 18-10 against the number facing
“C” teams this season, and don’t think the red-hot Nuggets will slow down against
wounded Minny crew that’s lost 12 straight and failed to cover 4 of last 5. With
T-wolf rebounding specialist F Kevin Love likely through for the season, and
starting C Darko Milicic likewise probably out with an ankle injury, it’s difficult to
see Minny holding Nuggets in check around the hoop (especially if Denver F
Chris Andersen and hustling swingman Arron Afflalo return to action to tune up
for the playoffs). Denver is 15-1 SU last 16 against Minny and has won 14 of 18
SU (15-3 vs. the number) since sending Carmelo Anthony to New York, so the SU
winner of this one doesn’t appear to be much in doubt. Now, all that being said,
must note that Minnesota has covered 7 straight visits to the Pepsi Center! 10-
