Tennessee vs. Temple:
This game is on ESPN. Tennessee is getting the love of 3 of 4 of each member of the public and that should not surprise you. Tennessee lost its last neutral site game against Gonzaga so this team will quickly look to bounce-back here. Temple comes off beating Penn State on the road but did lose to a solid Miami of Ohio team at home in which they were favored by -5.5 and even lost to Buffalo on the road. I lean on the Vols to get it done here despite them being the public favorite.
Butler vs. Ohio State
Man, I’ll tell you what, Butler is much better than most people think. They have really done wonders in their last series of games. But, Ohio State has a great deal of revenge as Butler beat this team 65-46 so obviously this team will be focused when they play Butler. Keep in mind though that Butler just beat the Bradley Braves on the road by double-digits and also defeated Cleveland State on the road as well. This team even covered against Evansville as well as 9 point home chalk. However, folks, Ohio State is good. Heck, this team defeated Notre Dame on neutral footing by 5 points. Remember, they were dogged by 5 points going into that game. The Buckeyes also defeated Miami of Florida by 15 points on the road and they were dogged by 15 points in that game. They held Samford to just 22 points on offense and heck, is 3-1 ATS. Now, it is tough to go against an undefeated time like Butler, but Ohio State has been playing great basketball and will be at home today. Lean on the Buckeyes here as they have revenge from last year.
Austin Peay vs. Louisville
Austin Peay is playing with a great deal of confidence so far. This team has gone on the highway and defeated Eastern Illinois, SE Missouri State and Georgia Southern. However, who would go against Louisville to not “kill” this team by as much for example. Look at this for example as well, Louisville beat Ohio by 35 points and Austin Peay lost to Ohio by 11 points at home. But, I don’t want to lay the points nor do I want to go against an Austin Peay team that seems to be gaining some confidence as well. No thanks.
Indiana State vs. Purdue
Purdue only beat this team by 11 points last year but note that Indiana State lost by 12 points at Ohio and 40 points to Louisville on the road. But, Indiana State only lost by 5 points to Depaul on the road. Purdue comes off just spanking Ball State by 29 points against Ball State and defeated Arkansas PB by 48 points. I think this is a game that Purdue can win big as they seem to have no trouble running up the score.
UMass vs. Kansas
UMass just defeated Holy Cross by 14 points and lost to Boston College in a recent game at home in overtime. That game in a lot of ways was a paving of the way for Umass as that was their most competitive game against a quality team this year. This team has had a lot of tight losses this year and only lost to Memphis by 22 points when they weren’t playing as well. Kansas is a young team but they have looked great thus far and they just beat Jacksonville State by 24 points and beating Kent State 27 points. I think this can go either way but I think Umass can hang tough here but it will be a tight cover. But, how does one go against Kansas at home who looks to spank teams at their house. No thanks.
Saturday's Comp Selection: (Premium Selection)
#525. Take Long Beach State +17.5 over Syracuse (Saturday @ 12pm est). I’m actually am a fan of Long Beach State. This team just lost a tough game at Weber State but note that was a revenge game for Weber State who Long Beach State beat earlier this year. LB comes off back to back losses including a tough road loss to San Fran as well in overtime. Don’t forget that LB lost by just 10 to BYU 65-75 and they were dogged by 19.5 points in that game. Then LB went on the road to play Wisconsin and lost by 7 points by a score of 61-68 and they were dogged by 22.5 points in that game. I think this is a game that LB can do very well in this game. After all, Syracuse only defeated Cornell by about 10 points at home and how do you get up for a team like LB State? I look for a strong start from LB State as by no means is this team intimidated bythe better teams in the nation including BYU, Wisconsin and playing Tennessee in the NCAA Tournament a few years ago. LB has sound scoring and I think they hang very tough here all day and hit the cover. The Orange are 0-4 ATS in their last four home games and I think they lose another home cover here as well. <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
