VEGASBUSTER – Silver Play
Iowa @ Penn St. –9
Pick: Penn St. –9
Let me set the tone here. Penn St. was 9-0 and mostly likely on their way to the National Championship. PSU was beating Iowa by 9 points in the 4th quarter. Iowa rallied and allowed PSU to watch the pigskin fly through the uprights with 1 second remaining. Ugghhhhh….No championship now!
The situation is much different now. The game is being played at Penn St. and to make it even more interesting it will be played at night. So the 110,000 fans participating in the “whiteout’ will look even that more intimidating.
Daryl Clark had his worst game of the season against Iowa last year. But responded by throwing an average of 285 yards, with 8 TD passes and 3 interceptions in the final three games of the season. The start of the season he has started where he left off.
I am concerned about Lee and Bowman possibly missing the game, as they are big playmakers for Penn State. Iowa also will be dealing with injuries LT Bulaga, TE Moekai, and WR Koulianos.
Evan Royster will play a big role in the success Penn St. will have against Iowa. Iowa’s defense has gave up an average of 5.9 yards per rush against Arizona and 5.6 yards against Iowa St.
The Nittany Lions have won 24 straight homes games against unranked opponents by an average of 26 points.
I don’t even want to call this a revenge game because no matter the results last year. Iowa was not going to come into the “Lions Den” and come out a winner.
Penn State wins this game by more than 2 TD’s……………….
VEGASBUSTER – Silver Play
Illinois @ Ohio State –14
Pick: Ohio St. –14
Illinois did extremely well against Ohio State last season on paper. Illinois had 100 more total yards on offense, rushed for .2 per play better, passed 2.2 per play better but lost to the Buckeyes by 10. The final score was 30 to 20 but 7 of Illinois points came in the last minutes of the game. Ohio State is very aware to not take Illinois lightly as they have won three of their last four at the shoe. But it is important to note that this is the conference opener for both teams. A very bad spot for Illinois as OSU has outscored their opponents 151-40 winning four straight in their conference openers. Illinois has lost 14 of their last 15 Big Ten openers.
After losing to Missouri things did not get better for Illinois as they lost their starting MLB Montez Williams to a season ending injury. QB Juice Williams injured his leg but had time during the bye week to get better and will start. It will be interesting to see how this will affect his ability to scramble.
Ohio St. defense as I predicted last week shut out the high scoring Toledo offense. They were able to establish the run game and get Pryor many passing reps. Pryor said “(Last week’s game) really gave me more confidence than I had,” I am calling for a big game from TP this week. He is going to be very efficient and look for him to make some big plays with his legs (LY he rushed for over 100 yards).
I would not be surprised if the final score looked something like 33-10 (ten is on the high side).
Ohio State from start to finish…a BUCKEYE BEATDOWN………
