OC DOOLEY
"1 UNIT" NBA SYSTEM (Grizzlies +12' at Blazers in a 10:05 eastern tipoff): We certainly have a confident underdog as Memphis won a 113-95 laugher at Sacramento last night, finally putting an end to a 20-game losing streak in that city. Going into last night the Grizzlies has lost 17 times in their most recent 19 outings, so that rout must have felt good. Of course the big sports story right now is the NCAA Tournament, but the Grizzlies roster is loaded with players (O.J. Mayo, Rudy Gay, Mike Conley) who have enjoyed success at the collegiate level. Both Mayo and Gay are averaging more than 18 points per contest while Conley is dishing out more than 4 assists per game. I will admit this is a risky pick as Memphis has not defeated Portland since March of 2007. But it should me noted that in a pair of clashes against them this season, Memphis has shot a decent 43.7% from the field. Since Portland has the 5th-best HOME record in the league (29-7), the oddsmakers had no choice but to overprice them this evening. But according to my database research, Portland's 129-109 home rout of Phoenix back on Thursday is actually going to work against them tonight. Here is an excellent 75-PERCENT SYSTEM (45-15 since 1996) which goes AGAINST "tired" double-digit home favorites like Portland who have played at least 8 times in a two weeks stretch, and coming off a high scoring home affair where both teams scored at least 100 points.
