It's hard handicapping a game 4 like this, where one of the teams is up 3-0, and it's also hard to back the team that just went down 0-3 with a devastating, controversial last second loss, like Mavs did. But in game 3 we saw a denver team that did not even 'show up" until midway through the 2Q, missing 16 of their first 19 shots and looking awful on offense (of course, it does not speak well of Mavs that they could not takle advantage of Denver's poor 1Q play, having to settle for a 20-20 tie after one quarter of the ugliest ball we have seen in NBA TY since the last time we suffered thru a Clippers game, with "comped" tickets).
And Denver has shown TY, with a number of losses as road faves to teams they should have handled easily, that when they are not "ready to play," they can be pretty bad. So we don't expect a high energy, focused effort at all by Denver, which we expect/hope the Mavs can take advantage of this time.

Look for both pitchers to be on the bounce-back today in a likely pitcher's duel. Let's get the week started off to a positive start.

"1 UNIT" NATIONAL-TV BASEBALL TOTAL (Braves at Mets UNDER 7 in a 7:10 eastern start on ESPN---------Lowe versus Santana): Tonight marks the first time that Derek Lowe has faced Johan Santana who used to be his Floridian neighbor in Fort Meyers, which means that we should be in store for a pitchers duel. It is easy to see why tonight's total is so low as Santana (0.91) currently has the best ERA in the National League and is coming off an extremely low scoring 1-0 victory. In that assignment Santana held a lethal Philadelphia offensive attack to just TWO hits. So far this season Santana has taken the mound 6 different times and in those starts has been supported by a grand total of just 12 runs by his Mets teammates. Now you can see why the Cy-Younger is 6-0 UNDER for the entire season to date. To add a bit of fuel to the fire, Santana is 5-0 UNDER in his career when facing the Braves. I will admit that the Atlanta offense recently got back the services of a pair of injured starters (Brian McCann, Garrett Anderson) which has bolstered the lineup. But in yesterday's upset road victory, Atlanta slugger Chipper Jones suffered a hyperextended elbow which puts his participation in tonight's ESPN game in doubt. Here is an 82-PERCENT SYSTEM (41-9 past five years) which plays good offensive teams like the Mets who average at least 5 runs per contest and are starting a pitcher who on average strikes out 5+ batters per game, UNDER the total against a decent starter (3.70 to 4.20 ERA) like Derek Lowe. For whatever the reason, my database research indicates that Atlanta is a staggering 9-0 UNDER/ROAD the past two years on a MONDAY. Check all calendars!
