Brazil +120

Brazil and Portugal both are going to advance to the next round, but the winner will have a better spot in the round of 16 so this game still has a lot of significance. Brazil is a much deeper team, and I am not buying Portugals 7-0 rout of North Korea as them being 100% back on track. Take Brazil.

North Korea +1.5

North Korea had a horrible second half against Portugal, but really are not that bad of a team. With both teams having nothing to play for its hard to predict this game, but I do think North Korea will hang in there and cover this spread (and we only have to risk -130). Take North Korea +1.5.

Chile +550

This is going to be a great game where both teams could win the group or not advance at all. Chile has played great in the tournament. Again, it is not smart to go against any of the South American teams as they have been playing so well. This line holds great value. Chile has yet to allow a goal so I like their chances. Take Chile +550.

Switzerland -1

The Swiss are very much alive and, with a blowout win, they will advance to the next round. You have to figure the goal difference in the Spain/Chile game will not be much, so if the Swiss can go out and beat Honduras by a big margin, they will advance. Look for the Swiss to be the superior team today. Take Switzerland -1.

Philadelphia Phillies -1.5

The Phillies are the away team, but are really at home with the G20 Summit forcing this game to be played in Philly. Roy Halladay has lost 3 straight and is looking to get back on track against a pitcher he is much better than as well as against his former team. The Phillies will get the 9th inning at bat, if needed to score more runs, which is big when playing runlines. Take Philadelphia -1.5.

Chile +6.50/+1 +1.04 over Spain

It's shocking to see Chile not get more respect in this match. Spain hasn't found their EURO CUP 2008 form as of yet and now that's all supposed to change against Chile? Chile has been underestimated all tournament long and there is no game that they want more than this one. A win or draw here against the Spaniards would claim them victory in Group H and give them an opportunity to avoid Brazil, assuming Brazil doesn't lose to Portugal. The Chileans have been one of the most exciting and electrifying teams in the tournament. Alexis Sanchez is proving that he belongs on the pitch with the best in the world and he could certainly break through in this match to score his first World Cup goal. Chile's coach Marcelo Bielsa will have to find a way to overcome the loss of the injured Carlos Carmona and the suspended Matias Fernandez. However, he has promised that Chile will maintain an attacking formation and this is a squad that is capable of opening up any defense for scoring opportunities. Spain has had a very difficult time putting away their scoring chances in this World Cup. They looked better in their last match vs. Honduras, but they still missed a number of key opportunities including a missed penalty kick by David Villa. Overall, the South American teams have been leaps and bounds better than the European teams so far in this installment of the World Cup. This betting line for this match certainly appears to underestimate Chile and overestimate Spain. It's quite possible that Spain comes out and plays its best game of the tournament, but there is just too much value on the Chilean side in this match. They will be playing their hearts out for a draw, but they are very capable of cutting open the Spanish defense and putting one past the Spaniards. It's always good to have multiple ways to cash in a wager and taking a goal with Chile gives you just that. It also makes sense to swing for the fences and make a small play on Chile to win outright at over 6-1. Many feel that Spain will come out and find a way to win this match, but those are the same people who backed Italy and to a lesser extent France in their losing must-win efforts. Tons of value on a Chilean side that will not lay down for Spain today. Play: Chile +6.50 (Risking 0.5 units). Play: Chile +1 +1.04 (Risking 1.5 units).

Honduras +1 -108 over Switzerland

If not for sloppy Spanish defending the Swiss wouldn't even have a goal at this World Cup. It's hard to believe that anyone would lay a goal on a team that is so defensive minded. The stakes are certainly higher today, but it's still asking a lot of a defensive minded team to score at least one goal, yet alone two. Switzerland had only three shots on target this entire World Cup and it's not like they have been just missing the net, as they also sport just eight shots off target. It might be hard to make a case for Honduras to win this match, but they don't have to win. They are certainly capable of keeping the Swiss off the score sheet or at least holding them to a lone goal, both of which would be good enough to cash or push a play on them at +1. Honduras' defense has proved they can hang with offenses stronger than the Swiss, holding Chile to one goal and Spain to two. There is a very good chance that Switzerland will be anxious to qualify for the next round and attempt to play out of their defensive element today. If that were to happen, Honduras might be able to launch a counter-attack and find themselves scoring their first goal at this World Cup. The books may have set this line because they know that many will side with the more recognizable country in Switzerland or because the public loves to bet on a team that MUST WIN. However, the Italians were in a MUST WIN yesterday and how did they fare? The wagering line is giving the Swiss way too much credit in this one and the value rests solely on the side of Honduras. Play: Honduras +1 –1.08 (Risking 2.16 units to win 2).

Final Interleague Weekend Power Trends 6/24-6/26
By Steve Makinen

This weekend offers the last of the interleague matchups for the season as the National League and American League teams won’t square off again until the Fall Classic, that is of course, if you don’t count the All-Star Game in a couple weeks. Unless the N.L. enjoys a huge weekend, it looks like another year where the A.L. gets the edge, as they go in with a 110-96 advantage. The best chances the Senior Circuit has to gain ground over the next few days figure to come in Philadelphia, where strangely, the Phillies VISIT the Jays, in Cincinnati, where the Reds host the Ohio battle with Cleveland, and in Kansas City, where the Cardinals visit the Royals in the heartland series. Let’s take a look at all the top action going on and reveal this weekend’s list of Top StatFox Power Trends to consider in your wagering.

The Windy City rivalry resumes on Friday with the White Sox hosting the Cubs on the South side. Ozzie Guillen’s team has gotten the best of its N.L. counterparts of late at U.S. Cellular Field, taking five of the last six games. They also took two of three from the Cubs at Wrigley a couple weeks back, holding the Cubs to just seven runs. The Sox figure to have the edge here too, as they have gotten red-hot and come into the series on a 9-game winning streak.

Still, that streak by Chicago is not even the longest winning surge in baseball right now. That belongs to the Rangers, who have taken 11 in a row to grab control of the A.L. West Division, 4-1/2 games on top of the Angels. Texas figures to be a sizeable favorite in its first two games of the weekend series with the lowly Astros, who make up three games of the 11 won in a row after last weekend’s sweep. Overall, the Rangers are on a healthy 11-4 run versus Houston over the last three years.

The strangest series of all over the weekend will be in Philadelphia, where the Jays host the Phillies. No, you didn’t read that in error. Because of a conflict with Rogers Centre this weekend, the Jays-Phils series had to be moved and Philadelphia was the decided location. That means while the Phillies will sleep in their own beds over the next few nights, the Jays will dawn the home white uniforms and bat last. Oddsmakers haven’t fallen for MLB’s trick, as they have the Phillies and Roy Halladay as huge favorites in the series opener. Toronto though, has won six of the L9 games vs. Philadelphia. Something else to note, Toronto is 8-1 OVER the total on the “road” in interleague play this season.

Now, getting to the actual playoff contenders at this point, there is a series of hot and not in New York this weekend between the Mets and Twins. Minnesota comes off a 3-game sweep at the hands of the Brewers, who they have historically had their way with, while New York has used the last month of interleague play to thrive, going 11-4 for the N.L.’s best mark. That series matches the #1 team in the A.L. Central vs. the #2 team in the N.L. East. The shoes are reversed in Atlanta, where the leaders of the N.L. East, the Braves, take on the team closest to the Twins, the Tigers. Both divisions show ½ game margins at the top so all four teams will be keeping an eye on the scoreboard.

Finally, the rest of the quality action is out west, where the Rockies visit the Angels, the Dodgers host the Yankees, and the Giants welcome Boston to town. The LA-Colorado series is particularly interesting, since these are two of the better interleague clubs in baseball over the last few years. In fact, the Angels boast a 19-5 record in their L24 games vs. N.L. West foes. The Yankees-Dodgers matchup is sure to strike up feelings of past World Series’ and perhaps even days further of yesteryear when the teams used to be neighbors in Brooklyn and the Bronx. Speaking of teams strong in interleague play, the Red Sox have been outstanding in such games under manager Terry Francona, going 90-41 in his tenure.

Now, here’s a look at those Top StatFox Power Trends certain to affect your wagering this weekend…
