LAST MINUTE SPORTS PICKS

DETROIT PISTONS +7.5 vs. Miami Heat (3 Star)
The pistons have been playing great as of late and are destined to be competitive in the East as they have shown lately. Tracy McGrady is a great addition to their squad and gives them some much needed scoring potential. The public is hammering the Heat and we are seeing reverse line movement moving from +8 to 7.5 as well as a -115 value at many books. I think Miami will be looking ahead to their upcoming game on the 13th @ Boston. Detroit are currently on a small streak winning 3 of their last 4 with the one loss being to the spurs at home by 11. I think the size advantage tonight for Detroit will help them hold onto the cover. With McGrady at 6’8”, Prince at 6’ 9”, Monroe at 6’11”, and Wallace at 6’9” the height advantage goes to Detroit. I think Detroit cover the spread here, as the heat hold back for a tough matchup to come in boston. Prediciton: Pistons probably lose, but they should cover.

PHILLY +3.5 vs. San Antonio (3 Star)
76ers play another tough home game against the Spurs tonight. This matchup will be a good one for the 76ers as they have been killing it at home. They were unlucky the other night against Orlando and one bad quarter had them lose the cover by 2 close pts. The 76ers have won 6 of their last 8 home games SU and ATS losing only to the Magic and a hot Memphis team. Tonight will be another tough matchup but the fatigue of 6 straight road games gives a huge advantage to the 76ers. Take the 76ers to cover 3.5 (buy the extra .5 if you are getting it at 3). If your gutsy take the 76ers to win as I think they can pull off the home upset win. Prediction 76ers win it 98-93. Take the 76ers.

ORLANDO -9 vs. New Orleans (2 Star)
The Magic are home against a struggling Hornets team lacking their big man on the inside Okur. I expect Dwight Howard to play a huge factor today causing the Hornets to get in early foul trouble. This will open up the perimeter shooting for the Magic and they will knock down some of the vital 3’s they are known for Orlando has won 3 of their last 4 covering in their 3 wins. On the other hand the Hornets have dropped 4 straight and 4 of their last 5 losing all 5 ats. The public is hammering the hornets and for bad reasons. The public thinks that since the Magic lost their last 3 ats versus the Hornets the Hornets had Okur, without Okur to add the offensive fuel there is no chance for this struggling Hornets team. Predicition: Magic win this by 12-15 pts. Take the Magic to role at home

Jeff Benton Friday's Action
20 Dime NBA selecaion on the 76ers plus the points against the Spurs. Philadelphia is a 3-point home underdog across the board both here in Vegas and offshore. It’s difficult to preedict which way this line moves throughout the day -- it has already dropped from any opening number of 3 1/2 -- but as always, be smart and shop arohnd to get the best of the number.

ANALYSIS

How can I go against a team that’s got the best overall record in the league (44-8), the best road record in the league (19-6), the best pointspaead record in the league (32-18-2) and comes into tonight having won and covered four in a row (all on the road) and seven of eight (including six of seven on the road)?

Great questions, all. My answer? I believe the Spurs’ energy tank is running on empty. Stay with me here: Since we flipped the calendar to February, San Antonio has played five road games, going from Portland to L.A. (Lakers) to Sacramento to Detroit to Toronto. And now they’re in Philadelphia to play their third road game since Tuesday. Taking things a step further, including tonight’s contest, the Spurs have played just one home game in their last 10! And guess what they’re doing tomorrow? Playing on the road in Washington, which would be their fourth road game in five nights.

And let’s not forget that as great as San Antonio has been this season, this is still a team whose key contributors have a ton of mileage on their NBA odometers (speaeking mainly of Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili). Taking all this travel into account – and remember they play in Washington tomorrow night, followed by road games next week at New Jersey and Chicago to cap a nine-game road trip – and understanding that his team is a virtual lock for a #1 overall seed, don’t you think coach Gregg Popovich would pick tonight to give his stars some rest? I’m not saying they won’t play at all, but what about limited minutes? Makes sense, no?

Keep this in mind, too: The 76ers have upset the Spurs in each of the last three meetings in Philadelphia (and four of the last five). Additionally, the home team 10-2 SU in the last 12 meetings, and the 76ers are 9-2 ATS in the last 11 (including six spread-covers in the last seven). Also, despite dropping two of its last three – including Wednesday’s four-point home loss to Orlando – the 76ers are playing solid basketball overall (7-3 last 10) and at home (8-3 last 11).

Finally, as great as the Spurs have been against the number this season (again, 32-18-2 ATS), Philadelphia is right behind (32-19-1 ATS). And not even San Antonio can match what the Sixers have done at the betting window in their last 37 games (25-12 ATS), which including a 13-3 ATS record in their last 16 following a loss and a 7-1 ATS record in their last eight when catching less than five points at home.

Bottom line: You know the 76ers, facing the NBA’s top team, will be emotihnally up for this game, but I don’t have that same confidence for the Spurs, who are in a classic “flat” spot and just might be dead-dog tired. Take the points, and don’t be surprised by an outright upset.

does that mean he is hot to get cold? 17-2? wow, nobody can keep that up. time to fade?

I honestly think that when they get TOO hot, they need to back off and lob out some losers. Members stay for a long time, waiting for another hot streak. After awhile, they go back to trying to win.

It's like a sports team, the streak runs out and they start to fall off, it has nothing to do with creating a stir. Believe me these guys would love to pick 65% week in and week out.

I'm going to start a thread in the Chatter Forum with my actual plays each day as I would've loved it if someone who was winning did that for me when I get on a losing streak. So, just like the services you can follow me or fade me depending on my win/lose streaks. I'll tell you I have not won once in the last four Tuesdays. I hate that day.

Good luck.
Thanks for info!
Overall, 27 handicappers, not doing so hot... paid to win and about half are < 50%.
The 3-4 "hot" ones... are they going to back off intentionally? Creates too big of a stir if they keep giving out winners.
Is that what happened to Burns?
