Welcome to Ecks & Bacon for Friday, December 26, 2014 (aka Chalk, Benjamin lee Eckstein)
First stop is the Heart of Dallas Bowl, where we're gonna try Louisiana Tech -6 points over Illinois. Did some intense studying, looked at the Illini since Tim Beckman took over and it AIN'T pretty. It was 2-10 in 2012, 4-8 last year, and 6-6 this season. While they have showed some improvement, it's not nearly enough to get our money. And on the road, it's kinda pathetic under Beckman with a 2-12 record straight up and a 3-11 spread mark. If you wanna talk IMPROVED, check out what Lou's kid, Skip Holtz, has done at Louisiana Tech. He took over last year and stumbled to a 4-8 record, but this season, the Bulldogs zoomed to 8-5 straight up. Against the spread, it's been MONEY, as La Tech has covered 10 of 12. The kids from Louisiana are SICK ballhawks. They forced FORTY turnovers this season, and are tied for most INTs in the nation at 25. Here's the KILLER stat. The Bulldogs 40 TOs this season are MORE THAN Beckman's Illini have recorded in their last 32 games (ALMOST three seasons). Gotta have half a Benjamin on Louisiana Tech.
La Tech -6
Now we turn to Boxing Day which is what they do in England for the day after Christmas. In case you're interested, Boxing Day is a holiday traditionally celebrated the day following Christmas, when servants and tradespeople would receive gifts, known as a "Christmas box", from their bosses or employers. And we reference boxing because we're looking at an upset almost like Buster Douglas taking out Mike Tyson. Not quite the same odds, but Queens Park Rangers are a very tasty underdog at Arsenal today. We'll drop $25 to win back $225 on QPR for the win, and lay another half a Benj on the draw to win back $250.
Queens Park Rangers 25 to win 225
Draw 50 to win 250
