niltes, you gotta be well versed in open borders code words. You probably haven't read "Adios, America" by Ann Coulter so it makes sense that you missed it. Lemme help you out....

When he says "We weaken it when we hide behind walls, rather than tear them down...."

He ain't talking about China bro. He's saying "Fuck putting a wall on the southern border with a 3rd world country known for its cutthroat drug trade", he's just saying it eloquently.

Do you feel enlightened? I suppose that's a state of mind.

I'm actually all for putting up a wall but if you're against putting up a wall, that doesn't necessarily mean you are an advocate for open borders.

Maybe it means he didn't want a wall but wanted to strengthen our assets on the ground instead? I don't know but saying it's one or the other isn't quite right either.

I don’t know McCain complete stance on this but I have read where he was not against walls but more in favor of using drones and other technology instead of a wall. Again, I think he felt walls made us look weak.

I think it's a reasonable response.

Don't forget the Gang of Eight, an utter joke when it came to border security while opening the floodgates to illegals.

There's a reason everyone called him Juan McCain.

He's been a dove on border security his entire career despite living in 1 of the 2 or 3 states that has been hardest hit by illegal immigration. In 2013, he wanted to pass amnesty without border security, as well as a doubling of the legal immigration population as a handout to his donors.

What more do you need?

And lastly, and this is going to be uncomfortable for some but saying we're a "nation of ideals" rather than "blood and soil" is a classic open borders, globalist, liberal statement. Blood and soil is a term used by white supremacists, so then if anyone says "Wait a minute, actually we're very much a nation of blood and soil rather than merely just an idea or ideals" well then guess who you're getting lumped with?

We're a nation of ideals in addition to being a nation of citizens, and the wants/needs of those citizens should come first when making policy.

I'll take this point by point as I'm talking to a guy who thinks he knows everything about the Federal Government. Keep in mind, I've worked in the Federal Government for 20 years while you're a hairdresser that believes Sandy Hook was a hoax.

------------------------------------------------------------------

1) McCain believed in comprehensive immigration reform. He pushed for comprehensive reform in 2006, 2007 and 2013 but couldn't get anything passed. In 2013 specifically, he helped draft a bill that balanced a massive investment in border security with a path to citizenship which would also update an outdated visa program for foreign workers. He said once "anyone can become an American if they embrace our values." He believed in smart enforcement and flexible legal immigration.

So, he didn't want a wall. Ok, I don't care if there's a wall or not as long as we keep out illegal immigrants. But, you can't say the guy didn't work tirelessly to pass immigration reform. It was something he pushed year after year as I alluded to above.

------------------------------------------------------------------

2) Again, let me repeat, he can be an advocate for better VA medical care in his state for his constitutes. He can make phone calls and visit federal VA offices in D.C. but he has zero control over improving their VA healthcare.

So, you say he turned down better care for Veterans whatever that means.

You know what's really funny? In May of this year a new VA Healthcare bill was sent to the President's desk that was actually named after John McCain. That bill expanded VA options to seek healthcare outside of the VA Medical system. The bill also provided $5.2B to the VA choice program which ensured veterans did not see disruptions in their care. This bill was championed and pushed by Sen. John McCain.

He also proposed a 125 page bill in 2017 called the Veterans Community Care and Access Act of 2017 with a goal of modernizing the VA healthcare system which allowed a provision to allow doctors to treat VA patients no matter what their geographic location is.

Should I provide more?

------------------------------------------------------------------

3) Sen. John McCain couldn't authorize a raise for active duty military members (Jesus Christ why would you beg a Senator for raises for the military? He doesn't have shit to do with our raises :().

Federal law mandates that military pay raises be equal to the change in the Labor Department's annual employment cost index, for private sector wages. The POTUS can specify an alternative pay adjustment that supersedes the automatic adjustment and congress can pass legislation that would override the automatic adjustment and/or any presidential adjustment if it were enacted.

A sitting state senator can't waive his/her magic wand and raise the wages of Title 10 Active Duty Military members.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Everything you say on this forum about the U.S. Federal Government is just flat wrong and/or inaccurate. Get some rest and come back tomorrow with some facts that back your claims. It's very clear, you are not knowledgeable about this topic.

He worked tirelessly to pass massive amnesty before securing the border. Something voters have rejected over and over and over.

When you say "comprehensive immigration reform", why don't you just call it what it is? Amnesty. He worked tirelessly to pass amnesty.

Reagan passed amnesty before border security in '86, how did that work out?

Because he didn't. To some of these morons, if you oppose a wall it means you want open borders. That's not what that means.

I think I saw a poll recently that stated 70% of McCain's home state believe in Comprehensive Immigration Reform. So, call it what you want.

So what you're saying is that McCain was not weak on border security, he just disagrees with a wall as the correct means to secure the border? Despite the fact we have years of him making proposals of amnesty before border security? I must've missed him arguing vociferously for more efficient means of securing the border as opposed to a wall. Link?

And the reason voters are generally sympathetic of "comprehensive immigration reform" is because the term amnesty isn't being used. Once you breakdown what that "reform" is it gets voted down. Every single time. There's a reason someone that broke every social/political norm in the book is President. It's a referendum on all that BS.

Pats, I don't really care. The man is dead and I just don't believe in speaking ill of the dead. I think you should let them be.

So, take what you want from everything he ever said on border security and draw your own conclusion but to say he didn't do anything or didn't really care, like our resident hairdresser here, just isn't accurate. This is a complicated topic.

Just curious how many people who are shitting on him now are the same people who wanted him to be our president 10 years ago and argued for him??
He would have been better than Obama, my cat would have been better than Obama. I had a sign in my yard

i respect his military record, despised him as a politician, especially after he lost, nothing but a two faced traitor, RINO

I think McCain was great in his own mind. The only reason he's getting so much attention now is because of his opposition to Trump. I know his family and friends will miss him, but he was a RINO and people need to really look at his life in full. If I was going to use the word hero, it wouldn't apply to him.
