MO and RJ Reynolds were two of my largest holdings before I moved into commodities starting early this decade. Dont own either now. Will own MO again sometime in future.

Before that I was too young and too broke to worry about investments...I had alot more fun then.

Tiznow, I like you, but are doing alot of posting and even lecturing in this thread.

How about listing us some stocks you actually own and/or have sold short so we can see the results as they occur instead of after the fact cut/pastes from after hours news releases?

Also, Id like to know where/how you would store a ton of silver.

I am very new to the market and have about 75k sitting in a cd and would like to invest in the market. What would you recommend for me. I am somewhat conservative but would like to get in the market and make better returns than the cd. Can you give me a list of stocks that you would recommend for me for the next 5 years that i can just buy and hold. Just something that would give me a diversified portfolio that would make more than my 5% cd.

Actually, after reading tiznows one post and rethinking what your above post, if you are very conservative and looking for a diversified portfolio, considering the current economic environment, I probably am not the guy you should asking for advice.

Since the CD rates aren't keeping up with inflation (yeah Wullie, inflation is a lot higher than the gov't is reporting), I'd say hedge with some precious metals, and look at a balance of mutual and bond funds:

American Funds Capital World Fund (CWGIX) has been phenomenal (18.42% return so far this year!), as has their
American Funds Capital Income Builder (CAIBX) (11.68% rty)

Average tenure of funds managers is amongst the highest in the industry.

If you hate the idea of front loads then check out TROWE Price funds, more excellent stuff and good management.

Stocks, for a long term, ask Base. I'd stick with industry leaders who have reduced or eliminated their debt.

Stuff like AAPL, GE, GOOG, seemed positioned for longer term success.

Quite honestly, I'd find a good investment manager and get his take on all this. It's their job.

Anyone else hear the foreign officials' comments about the us deliberately allowing the peso to fall?

Eventually they will all start playing this game.

I read a quick blurb from a European publication condemning Trichet

for manipulating the euro http://europe.courrierinternational...ue=uk&publication=31/10/2007&cat=ECONOMY&pi=0

Concerned about the constant rise of the euro facing the dollar, Pierre-Antoine Delhommais, sees an indication of Europe's lack of political weight. "If the euro is so strong today, it is mainly, paradoxically, because Europe is politically inexistent...

The euro is the tallest midget at the moment.

They have their own problems.

Eventually, all the fiat currencies will be tossed into the fire and people will scramble to get their hands onto gold and silver.

Also, we will eventually return to some type of gold and silver money. We wont carry it around with us, but some type of electronic precious metals currency will be established for widespread use.

www.goldmoney.com is something people wanting access to this sector could use. same thing at www.silvermoney.com

I already have digi-gold. it isnt accepted many places as of yet..

this is not much different than a world currency, and you cant see how this can be manipulated just like the printing press?

Outside having the coins in your hand, people like yourselves will always be leery.

basing a currency on gold is a huge mistake imo.

Our government actually wanted our dollar to fall?

and foreign leaders are complaining about it?

what a fucked up world, eh?

anyhow, bringing the dollar into balance in order to reduce the trade deficit is one thing, but the decline cannot go on forever. At some point, the dollar has to stabilize. I reckon we're nearing that point now.

based upon what?

you are again incorrect about making assumptions about 'people like me' since i already own forms of electronic based gold currency.

personally, i think you and your 155 iq need to study a bit more about this subject, instead of stalking me about this.

in one hand you post you think a currency based upon gold is a mistake, but in another hand you post you bought gold at 400 or so per oz.

not sure what qualifies you to seemingly to know so much about what im doing and thinking, and your recent fascination with stalking me here is strange.

Our government actually wanted our dollar to fall?

why wouldnt they want it to fall?

do you actually expect washington to publicly say, 'yes, we are pleased about the dollars' fall'?

how else could they possibly pay all the debt and other unfunded liabilities without greatly raising taxes.

the dollar should stabilize soon for its seems to be the hot topic all week.

however, longer term its still going to fall further.

just so I understand what your saying.

you dont think gold can be an investment for someone

unless they believe currency should be based on it

forgive me for asking you a question, I wont be stalking you anymore:103631605

no you could invest in what you think will rise...makes sense.

id like to know why you dont think gold should be used to back a currency. if not gold than what should be used? obviously what we are using now isnt.

anyone watching google and bidu fall apart this morning.

market looks like its in big trouble again today and its falling apart while bernanke is speaking.

CEF probably your best bet on the physical gold/silver side of thing as far as ease and all that kind of stuff

They have an audited vault containing gold and silver up in canada

you can keep an eye on its net asset value here

http://www.centralfund.com/Nav Form.htm

sometimes it runs at a pretty big premium, other times at a discount

right now the premium 3.4% premium NAV 10.66 trading at 11.04

or you can just go with the straight up stuff but these others are just paper gold and not as trustworthy as CEF since not audited i don't believe. not sure how much gold or silver these ETFs actually have on hand etc.

for gold its GLD, for silver its SLV
