[h=1]How To Live Longer: Regular Low Doses Of Ibuprofen Found To Extend The Lives Of Animals By 15 Percent[/h]What’s orange, may be able to extend your life, and is probably already in the back of your medicine cabinet? Ibuprofen. A recent study found that regular small doses of the pill extended the lives of animal subjects by up to 15 percent. Not only did the animals live longer, but they also lived healthier, and scientists believe the same effect could be seen in humans.
In the study, scientists gave a number of species doses of ibuprofen that would be comparable to the recommended human dose. They first began their tests on baker’s yeast, but then moved on to worms and flies. Results showed that over time this extended the test subjects’ lives by 15 percent, which when translated into human life is about an extra dozen years of life.
"We are not sure why this works, but it's worth exploring further," explained Dr. Michael Polymenis, one of the collaborating researchers who had taken part on the study, in a press release.
Ibuprofen interferes with the ability of yeast cells to pick a universal amino acid called tryptophan. This molecule is essential for human life, and ibuprofen’s effect on it results in longer healthier lives.
While the findings are exciting, Polymenis explained to Medical Daily in an email that he did not recommend anyone take ibuprofen regularly without first consulting a physician.
“We just need more research to examine and understand these properties,” Polymenis said.
This study was the first to show that relatively safe drugs are capable of extending lifespans, and according to Polymenis, ibuprofen may not be the only drug with this unique capability.
“This study was a proof of principle to show that common, relatively safe drugs in humans can extend the lifespan of very diverse organisms. Therefore, it should be possible to find others like ibuprofen with even better ability to extend lifespan, with the aim of adding healthy years of life in people," Polymenis said.
Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug. It was first created in England in the 1960s and is listed on the World Health Organization’s “list of essential medication.” The drug is used to reduce fever and treat pain or inflammation. It’s commonly used as a quick and easy treatment for minor ailments such as headaches, toothaches, back pain, arthritis, and menstrual cramps.
“Our institute is interested in finding out why people get sick when they get old. We think that by understanding those processes, we can intervene and find ways to extend human health span, keeping people healthier longer and slowing down aging. That's our ultimate goal," concluded Dr. Brian Kennedy, CEO of the Buck Institute, in the press release.

I don't know the #'s offhand but I would imagine kids doing oxy/roxy doesn't originate from prescription pill popping as much as you think. They probably just start on those drugs and then have to move to H because it is cheaper, but it still starts out in the partying gone too far and raiding parents cabinets rather than prescribed for them. Not sure tho...

[h=1]ADHD medication may be overprescribed in the U.S.[/h]Nearly 5 million privately insured Americans used a medication to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in 2012, a 35% increase from 2008, according to an analysis from Express Scripts released this month. ADHD diagnoses and drug treatment are at “questionable levels” in the U.S., the authors suggested, further noting that the disease may have become a “go-to diagnosis” that masks other problems, like mood or anxiety disorders.

Spending on ADHD medications rose 14.2% in 2012, which the report says is the greatest increase seen among any traditional drug category. Although children remain the primary users of ADHD medications, the authors were surprised to see that the number of adults using ADHD drugs also had increased dramatically, from rising 18.9% in 2008 to a 53.4% jump in 2012. Approximately two-thirds of adults were prescribed ADHD medications by a primary-care physician, rather than a specialist.

“That was a bit of an eye-opener,” said study co-author, Dr. David J. Muzina, vice president of specialist practice at Express Scripts. For patients with ADHD, getting the right medication at the right time is a life changer, he says, but these latest results suggest more than merely improvements in recognizing the condition.

“Given the trajectory of these numbers and the promotion of these medications, it's hard to imagine there is not some element of overdiagnosis,” he said.

Study findings also pointed out gender differences in the drugs' use. Male teens between ages 12 and 18 were the most prevalent users of ADHD medications, with 9.3% taking a prescription for one of the medications. However, the number of ADHD prescriptions decreased for males after age 18, and that's when the rates started to increase for females. The prevalence of women ages 26 to 34 taking an ADHD drug rose 85.1% between 2008 and 2012, surpassing the number of women under 18.

Boys often display the more impulsive and aggressive symptoms of the condition and are therefore treated earlier in their lives, Muzina suggests, while symptoms may become more apparent in women as they age.

The findings were drawn from an analysis of pharmacy claims of more than 400,000 individuals ages 4 to 60, who had at least one prescription for an ADHD medication filled during the five-year study period.

Many existing guidelines recommend behavioral therapies as the first step in dealing with ADHD, especially in younger children, using interventions to help them learn to manage, cope and function better. For example, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends “evidence-based parent- and/or teacher-administered behavior therapy as the first line of treatment” in its ADHD guidelines, and the Seattle-based non-profit GroupHealth recommends that medication be considered as only one component of a comprehensive treatment program that also addresses other behavioral or psychological needs in adults.

However, the new report says medication therapy is often the first chosen treatment.

“If there is a pill that can provide a quick fix, one might be easily convinced that is what they need to do,” Muzina said. The “try and see” approach, in which a physician will prescribe an ADHD drug to see if there are any improvements, is not a good litmus test for ADHD, he says. These stimulant drugs often produce heightened energy, euphoria or other short-term boosts, but there are long term-side effects associated with use of the medications.

“If you believe a patient may have ADHD, then the proper next step is to either dive deeper and do a diagnostic assessment yourself,” he recommends, “or refer that person to a specialist.”

Same goes for general health in general

people want easy fixes to pop pills and continue to be unhealthy slobs

when proper diet and excercise will take care of most ailments...

healthcare just messed up in this country .. We are super sick unhealthy slobs so it costs a lot duh... Plus people abuse it to no end.. All Part of the no more personal responsibility problem this country has..

easy times, mega corporations on a free reign to do as they please and in bed with government, and lots of complacency.. I guess it's inevitable... part of the no creative distruction anymore problem..

Also I presume a lot of the adhd problems that are on the rise in kids are tied to diet and excercise.. The high processed foods and high sugar diets western kids have now.. Many parents just flat out can't afford to feed their family fresh meats fruits vegetables etc every day ...time consuming with both parents tired and working shitty jobs.. more expensive and harder than just going to McDonald's.. Just sad.. And then many kids spending all their time online etc vs outside playing... More obese yada yada..

Alcohol is impossible to ban because home brewing is so easy

I had some Swedish dudes stay at my flat in the 1980s and they smuggled their own stuff into the UK because they had become so used to paying $0 for 40% alcohol, they simply mixed it with coca-cola etc.
I couldn't believe my eyes, but even back then state interference had made official swedish booze really really expensive and a giant homebrew culture had grown up in Sweden because of this

Tobacco and weed are much easier to ban because of the risks and resources needed to get them to people

Just sucking in as many as they can during this 1 1/2 year topping process before the rug pull

brent should have quite a bit of technical resistance in 50-55 area... Oil will cool off once global recession becomes obvious... But the recent low is likely the bottom to.. At same time Cant see how economy keeps rolling along and oil just V bounces back to 100 or whatever... Oil Likely stuck below 55 till we work through the next fed bubble popping phase..

gold and gold stocks continue to be the big winners since early this year...

More natural/man has nothing to do with it global warming data points eekster lol

----------

(CNN)Another month, another climate worry.

This year the Earth experienced the warmest April on record, keeping 2016 on track to be the hottest year yet and by the biggest margin ever.
New data released by NASA put this April's land and sea temperatures at 1.11 degrees Celsius warmer than average April temperatures between 1951 to 1980, which NASA uses as a reference point to study recent climate change.
It was the seventh month in a row to rise by at least 1 degree Celsius above the 1951-80 reference averages.

I don't think it moves too much until after Nov. either. Anything earlier would obviously help Trump.

Once he gets in, the conspiracy theorist in me kinda sees them just letting everything go to shit though.

As far as diets and food costs, I go back and forth on that. Yeah the costs of fresh meats and food has gone up and the shitty options are cheaper, but people do waste tons of money in this country and don't prioritize at all. Avg cable bill like $200 bucks now for everything, cell phones, new clothes, cars...People waste a lot of money on non-essentials.

There's a growing movement to find ways to use ugly fruits and vegatables that are perfectly fine but grocery stores won't take ridiculous the amount of food we waste in this country

[h=1]Your Fruit at Whole Foods Is Going to Get a Little Uglier[/h]They taste just the same. Photograph by Brian Yarvin — Getty Images[h=2]To stop food waste
[/h]In the name of lessening food waste, Whole Foods is testing sales of aesthetically challenged fruits and vegetables in a few stores.
Partnering with advocacy group Imperfect Produce, the grocery chain will sell “ugly” fruits and vegetables, at some of its Northern California stores, according to USA Today.
The deal marks, which starts in April, the first steps by Whole Foods WFM 0.59%to join the movement of calling for big name supermarkets to stop tossing food based on appearance. According to the Department of Agriculture, about a third of the available food supply at retail and consumer levels goes uneaten, which equates to 133 billion pounds and a loss of $162 billion in value.
A reduction of food waste in the supply chain, however, doesn’t necessarily solve the problem of consumers throwing away food in general. In 2012, Americans trashed 35 million pounds of food, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, nearly three times what eaters scrapped in 1960.
Grocery chains around the world have already started to sell “ugly” produce. French supermarket giant Intermarche launched an “Inglorious Fruits and Vegetables” campaign that increased store traffic by 24%, and Sainsbury in the U.K. and Woolworths in Australia have switched over to selling imperfect-looking food.

Part of the problem with health nutrition is processed foods with high sugar are just plain addictive ... So regardless if you put fresh healthy fruits and veggies in front of consumer for same price many will choose then unhealthy route..

go to dollar store on occasion for a few things and all the food stamp people are loading up on junk food galore...

If we continue to be a nation of fat umhealthy slobs with cancer rates skyrocketing .. Health care costs are gonna continue to soar no matter what system you devise.. Whether it obamacare or something else... Just no way around it...

just become a nation of blame others for our problems .. Nobody willing to stand up and speak the truth about what is going on.. And point out obvious areas where we are the root of most of our problems...
