Musk was broke in 2010 dumping everything he had into tesla

http://mobile.nytimes.com/2010/06/22/business/22sorkin.html?referrer=

Nother good read

http://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2015-elon-musk-spacex/

world needs more more dreamers willing to fail like him vs the super corrupt money hoarders almost all the smart elite are..

Like he said, the reason they're building the gigafactory is because no one else will.

Speaking of elite statuos quo $ hoarders, that factory would've likely been in Texas if not for their ancient anti-free market franchise dealership lobby.

Ever watch Silicon Valley? Show had potential but it lost me. Could've been so much better.

Anyway 1 of the characters was based on Thiel, but then the actor actually died in real life. That guy seems eccentric to say the least.

Space exploration is a bitch

The toughest engineering challenge ever for the human race, and not-a-lot of effort is really going into it at the moment, there's no short term profit

Stuff in space was failing for no reason and it took them a while to figure it out
Metal Parts were simply fusing together in a process known as cold welding
Then there's us, we fall to bits if we're in zero gravity for too long

the car industry woulda blown up if not for intervention..

Global economy today great example of what happens when you constantly intervene in the economy and protect the status quo.. Corruption run rampant with everybody on top just purely evil fiat stackers protecting each other's interests looking to stack more .. Vs doing something worthwhile while make a decent living at the same time..

Nowadays nearly impossible to do anything worthwhile.. Most like me a Slave to the mega corporation souless man.. Increasingly Apathetic to it all..

Disruption does cause temporary displacement (even permanent depending who you ask), all those jobs that come with engine vehicles, maintenance, gas, oil changes, oil industry, car dealerships etc.....All the solar that would replace traditional power generation in the south and west, etc.

Pretty easy to lobby in favor of stifling innovation when millions of jobs are possibly at stake.

As Artificial Intelligence gets more sophisticated who knows how much disruption there will be. I used to be of the opinion that all innovation makes the economy better because people can be freed up to do other things (the ol well we used to be an agrarian society and now less than 1% of us farm) but it's possible the future could look a lot different.

1 bright spot I would say is the innovators aren't really underdogs anymore. Apple is on its way to being a trillion dollar company, Google in 12yrs has the market cap of Exxon Mobil, etc....A lot easier to maintain status quo when you are the establishment and that is changing in some ways.

Anywho back to apathy land for me.. Much more bareable there :)

general conclusion ive come to is not even worth my time to bother with thinking about these things anymore.. Humans not worth the effort .. Generally speaking (obv exceptions) Just a bunch of self centered assholes looking for ways to fuck each other over to get ahead will fucking up a good thing in the process.. Our planet..

Also I'd argue that technology like that provided by Apple and Google has been more detrimental to man kind/society than helpful.. It's aiding the haves in gaining more power and control over the have nots..

Yeah I'm not trying to make those 2 sound like do gooder utopia's compared to the big bad automakers or anything, just saying the companies that can change the world for the better tend to be a lot bigger and well capitalized than in the past.

Harder to suppress transformative technology now than in the past imo, for better or worse

put in my 40 hours a week and do as much fun stuff that floats by boat the rest.. as I live my life of luxury..

Just saying if your eyes are wide open to everything that surrounds you .. it's pretty depressing stuff :)

most people senses too dulled by drugs/workload/family life/materialistic possessions/technology to see it

If the opioid doesn't kill you then the heroin will. Don't have the #s but pretty much anyone on H starts with oxy and then goes to H because they are broke. Oxy is expensive and H is very cheap comparatively speaking.

To join in on your doom and gloom, Oxy/H levels among vets at all time highs. VA has tried to get better but they hand those painkiller scripts out like its candy on halloween.

Hard to not be depressed when one day u realize u fought nonsense wars (now maybe disabled or what not) for the military industrial complex and not some glorified 'America rules rally around the flag stuff .. And they don't even bother to give u good care when u come home.. funding/donations outside gov necessary to just give basic needs .. That shit pussed me off so much ... But that's a whole nother depressing discussion

anywho shuteye time and time to stay away from this doom and gloom cave for a while ..back to my apathetic bubble world with all the others :)

Global economy today great example of what happens when you constantly intervene in the economy and protect the status quo etc

When they tried to let things follow a relatively libertarian capitalist path they got Adolf and Stalin and Mussolini and Franco and Tojo in the developed economies.
The USA only came into the war because of Pearl, and only declared war on Japan in 1941 such was the extent of American non-interventionist beliefs.

Damned if you do. Damned if you don't
Such is humanity, such is the human condition, it's in the genes Tiz

Just focus on keeping you and yours, and be glad we live in relatively peaceful times

Most youngsters don't realise just how lucky we are nowadays compared to even 100 years ago

Antibiotics have made the biggest difference

I'm not even 60 yet and in my lifetime:
Mumps and measles were rife. A pal when I was young died of tetanus, a pal at school lost his sister to scarlet fever, my grandparents had TB.
Polio. Typhoid. Rickets. diphtheria, pneumonia and gawd knows how many other diseases I grew up around all seem to have completely disappeared nowadays

They are so rare now we don't even think about them

You only worry about the economy so much now... because you aren't likely to die from one of 50 diseases

Obviously I personally got it "easy" that's not the issue..

Also u bring up another issue looking forward.. Nowadays with everybody living way beyond their productive years (people sucking resources including socialistic funds with many living like vegetables with degenerative diseases but kept breathing) and with the world population on the trajectory it is currently going something will have to give at some point ... has to be limit to the amount of people the world can somewhat comfortably hold what that number is I have no idea.. Even right now the number of people starve/barely get by/live like shit is substantial .. those who didn't win the birth lottery like we did
