no idea what Florida was thinking on this one. They take a university matter and then hire someone who is not only a booster but is also is on the board of regents for UF Law Schol to adjudicate the case?

what the hell is wrong with these programs? how can you NOT learn from state penn and baylor that trying to resolve this stuff in-house, errrrr sweep under the rug, will only get you in trouble? (and is both legally and morally wrong)

Tennessee

The Vols finished 92nd nationally in passing offense last year averaging
198 yards per game. They were 9th in the SEC in passing. Quarterback
Joshua Dobbs completed 59 percent of his passes to ranked ninth in the
conference in passing efficiency. Bottom line, Tennessee has to improve
their pass offense for any chance of winning the SEC East Division.

Sidenote: Tennessee's leading returning wide receiver is Josh Malone who
caught 31 passes during 2015, but he missed spring practice due to injury.

AP No. 1 Situation

The first Associated Press Poll will be coming out Sunday, August 21, at 2 p.m. EST.
Assuming the AP Poll follows the Coaches Poll that was recently announced, Alabama
will be the number one ranked team.

(PLAY ON any AP Preseason No. 1 college team as a FAVORITE off a Straight Up Favorite
LOSS in their previous game.)

Had you backed teams in this situation, you would own a nice 25-15 against the spread
mark in these games since 1980. *Put them up against quality opposition (greater than
.600) and they shoot up to 17-4 ATS.

Last year had one qualifying play when Ohio State traveled to Michigan, off a 17-14 loss
as 16.5 favorites to Michigan State. The Buckeyes carried the torch when they went on
to whip Michigan 42-13 as a 1-point road favorite.

LSU

Strong offensive line play has been a hallmark of Les Miles' teams, and despite the
loss of standout tackles Vadal Alexander and Jerald Hawkins, LSU's group should
remain among the best in the nation. This unit led the way for rushers to average
6.1 yards per carry and surrendered only 17 sacks last season. Standout freshman
performer Maea Teuhema started 11 games at left guard last year and is stated to
move to left tackle to replace Hawkins. Guard Will Clapp and center Ethan Pocic
anchor a strong interior, with Josh Boutte and Toby Weathersby rounding out the
starting five. Now if they just had a running back to block for.........

Sidenote: The Tigers are 13-0 straight up their last 13 season openers. They play
Wisconsin 9/3 in Green Bay.

Opening Week

There are some really good matchups of SEC teams opening week. One game that
sticks out to me is the Florida State/Ole Miss game. Preseason No. 4 versus No. 12.
Maybe the best game opening week...at least to me.

"They don't have the depth of an Alabama, but individually they have some of the
most talented players in the country." An opposing SEC coach.

I'm thinking the Rebels are going to surprise a lot of people against Florida State.
Matter of fact, I like the Rebs to cover in this one.

Ole Miss
FSU - 5 (opened 4.5)

USC
Alabama - 10.5 (10)

N. Carolina
Georgia - 2.5 (3)

LSU - 10 (8)
Wisconsin

Clemson -7 (8.5)
Auburn

UMass
Florida - 36 (36.5)

La Tech
Arkansas -25.5 (20.5)

Southern Miss
Kentucky - 7 (7)

South Alabama
Mississippi St. -31.5 (33.5)

Missouri
West Virginia -10.5 (13)

App. State
Tennessee - 21 (22.5)

South Carolina
Vanderbilt -3.5 (2.5)

LSU football program took a hit on Monday as senior defensive tackle Christian LaCouture suffered what could be a major knee injury, according to multiple sources.
LSU sports information director Michael Bonnette confirmed that LaCouture and redshirt freshman defensive end Isaiah Washington were injured but did not specify the nature of either one.
The severity of LaCouture's injury is not known, but early thoughts are that it is an ACL injury. The difference between a sprain and tear are significant, with the latter calling for surgery and ultimately ending LaCouture's season before it started.
The 6-foot-5, 307-pounder contemplated submitting his name for the NFL Draft this off-season, but elected to return for his senior campaign.

LSU sophomore Isaiah Washington has suffered a knee injury but the extent of the injury has yet to be determined, a source confirmed to NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune on Monday afternoon.
Washington, 6 foot 4, 236 pounds, is in position to backup Arden Key at the outside linebacker position in 2016. Washington played defensive end for LSU in 2015, participating in six games with three tackles and a forced fumble.
Washington wasn't at either practice available to the media on Saturday.
A source said that Washington is able to walk on the knee and they hope to find out how severe the injury is as soon as Tuesday morning. The injury could keep Washington out for a couple of weeks or be something that ends his 2016 season before it begins.
Washington also dealt with an injury at the end of fall camp in 2015 that hampered his playing time as a true freshman last season.

update: both have been ruled out for season. this is a massive blow to LSU at a position (Dline) they were probably thinnest on their team. not much going right for Lesticles these past few years

Texas A&M

The Aggies might be a little deeper and more talented than in 2015, but their record
might not show it. A&M had its most advantageous schedule last season since joining
the SEC in 2012, but failed to take advantage. The Aggies even-year schedule is
typically their toughest, considering that means road trips to Alabama and Auburn in
the same fall. For the second consecutive year, A&M opens with a Pac-12 opponent.
Last year the Aggies defeated Arizona State in Houston; this time they draw UCLA at
Kyle Field. A&M has had made a habit of starting fast and fading faster the past few
seasons, and the Aggies will receive an SEC West test in mid-September at Auburn.
Arkansas waits the next week in Arlington, Texas. The Aggies also return to Tuscaloosa,
for the first time since Sumlin's most embarrassing loss, 59-0, two years ago at
Alabama.

UCLA....Prairie View....@Auburn....Arkansas (Arlington)....@South Carolina....Tennessee
@Alabama....New Mexico State....@Mississippi St.....Ole Miss....UTSA....LSU

Sidenote: The Aggies lost a 1,000-yard rusher in Tra Carson but hope to gain another
in transfer Keith Ford from Oklahoma.

the hits keep coming for LSU:

Another member of LSU’s front seven went down in preseason camp.
Senior outside linebacker Corey Thompson sustained a fracture near his ankle Wednesday and is expected miss some early-season game action, a source told The Advocate.
Thompson, a senior who packed on weight for a presumed starting role in the team’s new 3-4 defense, hurt his leg at the morning practice of LSU’s first day of two-a-days. The recovery for the lower leg fracture is expected to span more than a month

the hits keep coming for LSU:

Tyron Johnson - #2 ranked receiver last year by Rivals - announced today he is transferring.

In my opinion, LSU may be the most over-hyped team in the SEC this year. With Fournette they may run the ball down second tier D's but unless Brandon Harris is much improved they will struggle with decent teams. These injuries and transfers aren't helping.

You make sense DL even through I picked LSU to win the West. Tigers can't keep losing studs on defense
and another 10-4 for you, QB Harris has to make plays this year!

i had LSU 11-1 and winning the West but definitely rethinking things. I think Harris showed signs of flash, even against Bama, that experience would draw out but they just can't keep losing potential impact players.

an aTm or Ole Miss charge to win the west would not shock me right now. The crazy world of off-season college football....

Ole Miss is the team to watch for me....I give them a great chance to beat FSU in the opener.
The Rebels AIN'T going to beat Alabama this year....set your grandma's clock to that.

rt, I may be wrong about LSU. They may end up being the real deal. But if they are they are going to have to improve a passing game that ranked 12th in the conference.

We both know Miles is going to run the ball, control the clock and play D. That is a great plan when they have the lead, but what is going to happen when they find themselves trailing? I bring this up because falling behind is a real possibility. LSU's D wasn't near as dominating last year as previous years. They ranked 5th in the SEC (25th in the FBS) in total D - 12th in interceptions.

Steele may have been part of their problem. If so maybe Aranda will right the ship. Then again, maybe LSU's talent isn't as good as previous years. Either way, without a passing game and a top notch D, they won't beat bama and probably will struggle with other decent teams.

This may be the barner in me coming out, but I expect LSU to struggle with Auburn. Last year they took AU's manhood. That is something Auburn players have had to live with for 12 months. If they don't have a chip on their shoulder this game they never will.

I agree with you about A&M. Potentially they could be really, really good. They could also be really bad.

I don't expect Ole Miss to be much of a threat. They just lost too much from last years team. They have some solid players but not near enough to survive a SEC west schedule. And you never know how the turmoil surrounding the program will play out. As for the OM vs FSU game, I love the minus 6 in that game. Just a terrible match up for Ole Miss trying to break in so many new players.

Bottom line, A&M has the potential to match up with bama better than anyone else in the west. bama has too much talent and is too well coached for everyone else in the division. Tenn probably matches up with them better than anyone in conference but I don't believe they can spread the field enough to win. If I'm bama, I wouldn't want to play them twice - that could happen.

Kentucky

The Wildcats will introduce a new pro-style offense that seems to play to their strengths
at running back and tight end. The offense should take a big leap forward with four re-
turning starters on the offensive line and every wide receiver returning. For the veteran
offense to go, quarterback Drew Barker has to be more consistent. Coaches seem con-
fident that he's matured and will provide much needed leadership. Defensively, the biggest
question mark is the front seven, where they are replacing all but one starting lineman, and
inside linebackers. Not having any proven pass rusher is a problem also. The secondary
returns all four starters which provides some experience for a defense that ranked 59th last
year.

Sidenote: Kentucky is just 3-14 against the spread as a home dog the past four years.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – It was a rough week on the injury front for Florida as various reports stated three Gators went down in practice, and coach Jim McElwain confirmed the bad news in Friday’s press conference.
Freshman cornerback Quincy Lenton had surgery on a broken foot, which reporters had gathered from watching his Twitter account.
“Quincy Lenton has kind of the same thing as Brandon Powell had in his foot, very similar,” McElwain said. “The great news there is when it was discovered we were able to go about four hours after the actual, five hours after, when it was discovered and we were able to get that screwed back in there. That speaks volumes for our doctors, taking care of it like we did. That’s at least probably a five- to eight-week (absence) depending on the repair piece.”
OG Antonio Riles, who went down in Monday’s practice, will be out for the year due to a torn ACL.
“Antonio Riles did have a knee situation and he’ll be out. We haven’t gone to surgery yet. You have to let some of these things, swelling, go down and whatever,” McElwain said. “I didn’t do great in that medical class I was in so you guys will have to bear with me on that.”
Freshman CB C.J. McWilliams suffered a similar fate as Riles.
“C.J. McWilliams, same deal,” McElwain said. “We’ll wait for the schedule on that.”
