LSU Tigers

Five different offensive coordinators have served under Les Miles during his eleven seasons at
LSU (Jimbo Fisher - 2005-2006, Gary Crowton - 2007-2010, Steve Kragthorpe/Greg Studrawa
2011-2012, Cam Cameron - 2013-Present), but the criticisms of the Tigers' offense have
generally been the same throughout the Miles era. Most LSU football fans will tell you that
the Tigers' offense lacks creativity and fire power and at times is to predictable. Critics of LSU's
run-heavy offense were given a glimmer of hope when Cameron first arrived in 2013, when the
offense became a balanced high-powered attack. However, the offense quickly fell off during
the subsequent two seasons. This year the offense could take a tremendous leap with a lot of
veteran players, from skill players to linemen. The upcoming season will be quarterback Brandon
Harris third in Cameron's offensive system and the second as a full time starter. The pieces are
in place, and now the coaches and players have to execute every Saturday this fall.

Sidenote: Les Miles is 112-32 as LSU's head coach and has 18 starters returning for the 2016
season.

Missouri

After winning back-to-back SEC East Titles, Missouri regressed to 1-7 mark in league play
thanks to an offense that ranked among the worst in the nation. In SEC play, the Tigers
scored a total of six touchdowns and averaged only 9.1 points per game. The Tigers have
their quarterback in place, but Drew Lock struggled through most of his true freshman year.
There are also questions on the offensive line and a lack of proven playmakers at the skill
positions. The defense, however, should be damn good once again (No. 6 nationally 2015)
for new head coach and former Missouri defensive coordinator Barry Odom. Still, Mizzou
won't make much of a climb in the SEC East unless the offense (No. 124, 2015) finds a way
to score more points. Last season the offense ranked No. 126 in scoring. The home schedule
is a relative breeze, outside of visits from Georgia and Arkansas. The road slate is absolutely
brutal, starting with a season-opening visit to West Virginia, followed by crucial road tests at
Florida, South Carolina and Tennessee. The rest of the home schedule is forgiving with a couple
of scrimmages against Eastern Michigan and Delaware State. Middle Tennessee visits Columbia
for homecoming. The Tigers get Kentucky and Vanderbilt at home.

Sidenote: Missouri is 23-1 straight up and 17-5 against the spread the last three years in games
where they OUTGAIN their opponents. Last season, the Tigers were 126th in scoring, 119th in rush-
ing and 112th in passing. Just saying............

listening to the new Tuscaloosa radio show and one of them said he really believes the 2nd best RB in the SEC (1st of course Fournette) is Derrius Guice, Fournette's backup. obviously some of that is showing off his knowledge of college football but was really surprised since those guys know a ton about SEC players. definitely keep an eye on Guice
so not surprisingly ESPN lists LSU as the #1 RB situation in college football. Pitt at #42 is pretty silly considering it is their top position of strength and the focal point of their offense and OSU is never outside the top 20 when it comes to RB situations

1. LSU Tigers

i
If the Heisman Trophy were awarded mid-year, Leonard Fournette would have won it by a landslide last season. If the NFL allowed true sophomores to enter the draft, Fournette would have been the top RB taken, as he rushed for 1,953 yards (6.5 yards per carry). Derrius Guice would start for a lot of teams and averaged 8.5 ypc. LSU has three more highly touted running backs in the mix, including true frosh Devin White.
2. Stanford Cardinal

i
Christian McCaffrey finished second in the Heisman vote and set the NCAA record for all-purpose yards. He rushed for 2,019 yards (6 ypc) and had 645 receiving yards (14.3 yards per catch).Bryce Love is a complete back who averaged 7.8 ypc and is a solid receiver. He can score any time he touches it. Redshirt freshman Cameron Scarlett and true frosh Trevor Speights add depth.
3. Oregon Ducks

i
Royce Freeman is 230 pounds and rushed for 1,365 yards (5.4 ypc) in 2014 and 1,836 (6.5 ypc, 17 touchdowns) in 2015. Taj Griffin is in the Taser back spot and rushed for 570 yards (7.4 ypc). Kani Benoit had 364 yards (7 ypc), while Tony Brooks-James adds depth.
4. Georgia Bulldogs

i
Nick Chubb rushed for 1,547 yards (7.1 ypc) in only eight starts (after Todd Gurley got hurt) as a true freshman. He was a Heisman contender in 2015, with 747 yards (8.1 ypc) in six starts before he went down for the year with an injury. Sony Michel took over and in six starts rushed for 1,161 yards (5.3 ypc). True frosh Elijah Holyfield (Evander's son) is added this season.
5. Florida State Seminoles

i
Dalvin Cook rushed for 1,691 yards, at 7.4 ypc, with 19 touchdowns, despite missing time because of an injury. Jacques Patrick rushed for 162 yards against Syracuse in his one start.Johnathan Vickers, Ryan Green and true frosh Amir Rasul add depth.
6. Oklahoma Sooners

i
Samaje Perine had 1,713 yards (6.5 ypc) as a frosh, including 427 rushing yards versus Kansas to set an FBS single-game record. Last year, he had 1,349 yards (6 ypc), and the Sooners added Joe Mixon, who had 753 yards (6.7 ypc). Daniel Brooks and redshirt freshmanRodney Anderson add depth. Dimitri Flowers is a top-notch fullback.
7. Baylor Bears

i
Shock Linwood had 881 yards (6.9 ypc) as a third-stringer in 2013. He had 1,252 yards (5 ypc) in 2014 and 1,329 (6.8 ypc) in 2015. Johnny Jefferson had 1,000 yards (7.4 ypc) as Linwood's backup in 2015. Devin Chafin has 1,261 rushing yards in three seasons, while Terrance Williams had 556 (6.3) as a redshirt freshman. All four return, and the Bears add dynamic redshirt freshman JaMycal Hasty and true frosh Kameron Martin.
8. USC Trojans

i
Justin Davis had 595 yards (4.6 ypc) in 2014 and then 902 (5.3 ypc) in 2015. Ronald Jones rushed for 987 (6.5) as a true freshman, topping Charles White's school freshman record.Aca'Cedric Ware and true frosh Vavae Malepeai provide depth.
9. Tennessee Volunteers

i
Jalen Hurd is 240 pounds and rushed for 899 yards (4.7 ypc) in 2014 and 1,288 (4.6) in 2015. Alvin Kamara was originally at Bama but had 1,000 yards as a JUCO in 2014 and 698 (6.5) for Tennessee in 2015. Sophomore John Kelly has 4.4 speed, and true freshman Carlin Fils-Aime adds depth.
10. North Carolina Tar Heels

i
Elijah Hood ran for only 259 yards (3.9 ypc) as a true freshman but exploded in 2015 as the feature back, with 1,463 yards (6.7 ypc) and 17 touchdowns. T.J. Logan has 1,515 rushing yards (5.5 ypc) and 419 receiving yards (9.9 yards per catch) in three seasons. Tyson Williams and true frosh Jordan Brown add depth.
11. Western Kentucky Hilltoppers

i
Leon Allen had 1,542 rushing yards (5.7 ypc) in 2014 but got hurt early in 2015. He was granted a sixth year and, if healthy, is dangerous. Anthony Wales had 518 yards (6.3) as a backup in 2014 and 1,091 (7.0) in 2015. D'Andre Ferby had 650 yards (4.0) in 2015. This unit has 4,919 (5.4 ypc) career rushing yards and a total of 1,144 receiving yards (8.5 yards per catch).
12. Alabama Crimson Tide

i
With the history of the Tide producing top RBs, I am willing to overlook the grand total of 281 career rushing yards from this unit. Damien Harris, Bo Scarbrough and B.J. Emmons form a very talented trio that will have their yards by the end of 2016-17.
13. Miami Hurricanes

i
The Hurricanes have three running backs capable of being the feature back. Joseph Yearby had 1,002 yards (4.9 ypc) in 2015. Gus "the Bus" Edwards was going to start last year but was injured. Mark Walton had 461 yards (3.5 ypc) in 2015. Trayone Gray and true freshman Travis Homer provide depth.
14. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

i
Tarean Folston had 889 yards (5.1 ypc) in 2014 and was injured for the year in Week 1 of 2015. Josh Adams came on down the stretch in 2015 and had 835 rushing yards (7.1 ypc). Behind them, they have a deep group of highly touted runners.
15. Clemson Tigers

i

Wayne Gallman had 769 rushing yards (4.8 ypc) as a true freshman. Last season, he rushed for 1,527 yards (5.4 ypc). He has three solid backups in C.J. Fuller, Adam Choice and Tyshon Dye. They also add Tavien Feaster, which makes this a deep and talented group.
The rest of the top 50 RB units:

16. Texas Longhorns
17. San Diego State Aztecs
18. Toledo Rockets
19. Wisconsin Badgers
20. Penn State Nittany Lions

Georgia coach Kirby Smart updated the statuses of injured running backs Nick Chubb and Sony Michel during his press conference Monday. Chubb underwent surgery after injuring his knee against Tennessee last October during his sophomore season. He recorded 1,547 yards and 14 touchdowns as a true freshman and rushed for 100-plus yards in 13 consecutive games prior to his injury.

The Aggies may have the best two defensive ends on any one team in the country. Junior
MYLES GARRETT easily would have been a high first-round pink in 2016 had he been eligible
to enter the NFL draft. He's lightning quick as well as rare flexibility to dip under and around
pass blockers. Garrett shattered the freshman record for sacks (11.5) and increased his total
in 2015 to 12.5 despite being the focus of every opponents' blocking scheme. While Garrett
draws most of the attention, DAESHON HALL is an intriguing edge rusher in his own right,
registering 54 tackles, including 14.5 for loss and seven sacks as a junior. He offers good
initial quickness off the snap, as well as the lateral agility, balance and long arms to handle
ball carriers. He had 4 sacks in last year's opener against Arizona State. The Aggies defense
is strong along the line and they're fast in the secondary...opposing quarterbacks beware.

Sidenote: Texas A&M ranked No. 4 nationally against the pass last season.

Sidenote: Texas A&M is 0-12 against the spread as underdogs of 3 or more points in their
first back-to-back road game. Auburn (could) fit the situation this season.

Georgia
(Anonymous SEC Coach)

"On defense, Kirby Smart isn't walking into the same kind of talent he worked with at
Alabama. Just one example: They don't have a linebacker corps; I mean, they just
simply don't have any good linebackers. They're player deficient right now. I think
they'll probably have some headaches early but Kirby will get it done."

Auburn
(Anonymous SEC Coach)

"They still don't have the quarterback issue settled. That's the most apparent
thing. The junior college transfer they're bringing in might be more of a Nick
Marshall type, but I think you saw last year how underrated he was. You can
talk about system all you want, but you've got to have a trigger man."

Auburn running back Jovon Robinson was absent from the team's first practice of fall camp on Wednesday and has been dismissed.

Tigers coach Gus Malzahn said he dismissed Robinson, the team's returning starter and one of the best offensive skill players because, "He did not meet my standards or expectations of what it takes to be an Auburn Tiger football player.

"We're going to have zero distractions on this team this year. I've given him his release and we wish him the best.

Sounds like Gus not messing around this year. Also read a few days ago where he stated he would be a bigger
part of the play calling this year something he said he was not involved in enough last year.

I agree.....been saying for 3 years that 2016 will be the year but they always find a way to lose to Florida & of
course Bama. Maybe Jones learned a lesson from ly on all those big games they blew late game leads on. Should
be a fun and interesting year looking forward to it. Going to Bristol for the Va Tech game that should be a wild
pregame event with lots of tailgating....Tn better be ready for that one as I look for Va Tech to be improved this
year. Look for it to be a tough game but hope I'm wrong as Tn needs to have a big win here to get rolling in right
direction to have a chance for a big year.......

Trust the Vols are not OVERLOOKING a tough little App State team in the opener with
Virginia Tech and maybe 140,000 fans on deck. Yes, the Vols will beat the Mountaineers
but I have my doubts about the cover.

Appalachian State has a good football team and Tennessee better not take them lightly.

I probably won't bet this game but if I did....I'd take the Dog.

I live about 45 mins away from Appy St they have a great program. You remember several years ago when Appy St went
into Mich around a 33 or 34 point dog & came out with a str8 up win? I had one of my biggest bets ever on Ap St + the
points wish I had put a little on M/L lol.

i like the sound of MORE Gus in the decision making :)

world's highest paid high school coach. 8 wins will be a stretch for the barn in 2016 and 6 is more likely if Gus wants to be even more involved

Good article on the Cocks.... http://www.sbnation.com/college-foo...ll-2016-preview-schedule-roster-will-muschamp

highights:

Will Muschamp went just 11-13 in his final two seasons as Florida's head coach, and while his Gators' ratings weren't that bad (33rd in S&P+ in 2013, 29th in 2014) thanks to a dominant defense, their offense was completely devoid of confidence or rhythm, and they had no idea how to execute in close games. After going 4-1 in games decided by one possession in 2012, his Gators went 3-7 in 2013-14.
Ignoring the morbid style -- even when Florida was good, the Gators weren't aesthetically pleasing in the slightest -- there are two ways to look at Muschamp's results.
Optimist: In four seasons, UF never ranked worse than 33rd in S&P+. Whether you appreciate the style (and it's hard to at times), his baseline is pretty high, higher than South Carolina has managed over the last couple of years.
Pessimist: Yeah, but in four years, UF ranked better than 29th only once, and that was with top-10 recruiting. Now he's at a school that only recruits at a top-25 level. In terms of stars vs. results, he underachieved, and now the caliber of the roster he inherited is lower.
And oh man, is it going to be lower this fall. Attrition was stark and swift. South Carolina still boasts plenty of former four-star recruits but almost no proven entities. The Gamecocks' only proven runner is a quarterback who might play receiver. The leading returning receiver had 12 catches in 2015. An underachieving line has to replace three two-year starters. And a defense that was only decent at big-play prevention must replace its top two safeties and four of its top six tacklers on the line.
If Muschamp is to succeed in Columbia, it might take a while

Muschamp has since said that he would still have the Florida job if he had hired Roper from the start. There's no way to verify that, but it will be interesting to see what Roper can do with a blank slate. He tried a run-heavy approach at UF and probably will in Columbia, too, but two of SC's top three running backs are gone. He leaned on a bell-cow passing game (Demarcus Robinson, then a sophomore, had more than twice as many targets as anybody else at UF in 2014), but the receiving corps must replace four of its top five targets.

Spurrier didn't do Muschamp many favors when it came to roster balance. Muschamp inherits two quarterbacks with experience and almost no skill position help. On defense he inherits a ton of experienced linebackers but few linemen. Meanwhile, almost all of last year's returning production comes from seniors.

2016 projected wins: 5.4

Projected S&P+ ranking: 63 (12 in SEC)

5-year recruiting ranking: 22 (9 in SEC)

Biggest strength: There is pretty good attacking talent at linebacker.

Biggest question mark: There are virtually no proven weapons in the skill units.

Biggest 2016 game: Missouri (Nov. 5). It's hard to figure out where six wins and a bowl bid come from if the 'Cocks lose this one.

Summary: Muschamp's second chance as an SEC head coach will probably begin with a tough season. His South Carolina team doesn't boast many known difference-makers, and he'll probably need most of 2016 to get the right pieces in the right places.

Tennessee

Tennessee will have one of the top special teams units in the country. Evan Berry led the nation
in kickoff returns (38.3 yards per attempt) and Cameron Sutton led the nation in punt returns
(18.7 minimum 15 attempts) last season. Trevor Daniel was second in the SEC in punting (45.7).
Aaron Medley hit 21 field goal attempts, but needs to improve his accuracy (31 attempts). The
Vols will also be strong in punt and kick coverage.

Defensive Line - Losing a pair of defensive linemen to the second round of the NFL Draft is
about as much a bother to Nick Saban as a bit of fuzz on his crimson golf shirt. Brush it off
and move on. He and his staff already have done the hard work, bringing in copious five-
star talent and not all of it leaves early. Senior Jonathan Allen is a potential first-rounder,
and he's joined by senior Dalvin Tomlinson and soon to be stars Da'Ron Payne and Da'Shawn
Hand. Best group in the country.

Linebackers - Saban shuffled his linebacker deck this spring and as you might guess, he had
a hand full of aces. Reuben Foster is the new alpha-dog middle linebacker, inheriting the role
from Reggie Ragland, who got it from Trey DePriest, who followed C.J. Mosley and you get
the idea of the lineage. Rashaan Evans moved inside, Ryan Anderson is taking over the hybrid
"Jack" spot, and Tim Williams is determined to show everyone he's not just a situational pass-
rusher, he's an offense wrecking, three down linebacker. Best group in the country.

Defensive Backs - Minkah Fitzpatrick was the big play nickel last season where be broke up a
team high 11 passes, and he is moving to cornerback to team with another starter in Marlon
Humphrey. This being Alabama, you know more five stars are pushing for early time, too, but
every group needs an old man to show the way, and that's All-SEC safety Eddie Jackson who
had six interceptions last year. The second best group in the SEC behind Florida.

[h=1]Report: Florida Gators WR Antonio Callaway, former QB Treon Harris accused of sexual assault[/h]
Florida WR Antonio Callaway’s indefinite suspension is apparently related to an accusation of sexual assault.

ESPN’s Paula Lavigne and Mark Schlabach report that a woman who accused Callaway and former Florida QB Treon Harris of sexually assaulting her in December is boycotting a Title IX hearing on the matter because Florida appointed a football booster to adjudicate it.

The alleged assault happened in early December. The woman reported the incident to the university but did not report it to police. Callaway and Harris were suspended indefinitely in January for violating the student code of conduct. During that time they were not allowed on campus and took classes online.
Callaway has not been reinstated to play in games, but he was allowed back on campus in June for summer classes and participated in the team’s first fall practices this week. The university announced last week that Harris was transferring.

The woman’s attorney, John Clune, told the University of Florida his client would not be participating in the hearing, scheduled for Friday, in a letter that was obtained by ESPN.

“This has been a difficult decision but as I previously indicated to you, the fact that UF has hired a football booster to adjudicate a sexual assault allegation against one of the team’s own football players is a fundamentally skewed process in which [the complainant] refuses to participate,” Clune wrote.
