Have to expect Johnny Cueto to buckle down in this start, as the Reds righty was humiliated in his last start at Philadelphia, getting shelled for 9 runs in less than an inning of work.

That start was the exception rather than the norm for Cueto whose ERA is a respectable 3.45 for the year.

Cueto will match pitches with Johan Santana who sports a home ERA just over 2 for the first half of the year, and Santana did work 6 innings of 1 run ball in an April win at Cincy.

The Reds and the Mets opened the weekend with an UNDER last night, and the way the Mets have struggled at the plate of late - 5 of their last 7 UNDER - we don't see the OVER being an option this Saturday night.

Cincinnati has played UNDER the total in 3 of their last 4, and 6 of Cueto's 10 road starts this season have held LOW as well.

Take the UNDER at Citi Field tonight.

Pitbull's power could shock St-Pierre at UFC 100
By JASON LOGAN

Something was triggered in Georges St-Pierre when he was shocked by Matt Serra at UFC 69 over two years ago.

Since that loss, the Canadian karate specialist has been on a focused rampage, ripping through a who's who of the welterweight division. He has now regained his title and has become one of the most reconizable icons in mixed martial arts.

While St-Pierre's current stretch in the UFC is impressive, his recent opponents all have one thing in common - they're safe.

Unlike his opponent for this Saturday's welterweight title fight at UFC 100, St-Pierre (-300) has defeated five fighters who are very talented but don't possess the same power and knockout ability as Thiago Alves (+220).

“Thiago Alves is a big fighter,” says renowned boxing and MMA linesmaker Joey Oddessa. “He walks around in excess of 220 pounds when not training... I would not feel comfortable laying -300 odds on anyone against Thiago Alves.”

Alves is riding his own impressive streak into UFC 100. The Brazilian Muay Thai and Jiu-Jitsu specialist has an 18-2 career mark and hasn't lost in over three years, winning seven straight bouts – five by way of knockout.

At 5-foot-9, Alves packs a ton of power into his stocky frame, earning him the fitting nickname “The Pitbull”. Of his 18 career fights, 10 have ended with Alves' opponent staring up at the lights in a daze. Four of St-Pierre's past five opponents combine for just 13 career knockouts and the one guy with more KO victories than Alves (Matt Hughes with 13) has fought in 43 professional MMA bouts.

The biggest concern for MMA bettors eyeing the upset was Alves' weight issues. He's struggled to cut weight in the past, but reports out of his camp have him ahead of schedule to reach the set 170-pound limit by Friday's weigh-in.

Alves' standup power presents a true threat to St-Pierre's title reign. The champ was knocked out by Serra at UFC 69 (Serra's lone KO victory) and had a tough time against B.J. Penn's striking when those two met at UFC 94 last January.

“You never know what to expect until he gets hit,” says Oddessa. “St-Pierre has steadily improved and avenged his only two career losses. But Alves might be the biggest and most powerful guy he has ever stepped into the Octagon with.”

UFC 100 is scheduled for Saturday night at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Today's Complimentary Selection

I am on a 30-18-1 run with complimentary releases after scoring with the Dodgers on the road in Milwaukee, and tonight we're playing the Rays over Oakland.

Hmmm, let’s see, we’re either siding with Dallas Braden, the 26-year-old who is 12-19 lifetime and 1-2 over his last five starts, or Rays hurler Matt Garza, who is 11-5 with a 3.02 ERA in 24 career starts at Tropicana Field?

It really is an easy choice, as Garza will be pissed off after taking a loss on Sunday night against the Rangers, who tagged him for five runs in five innings in Arlington. That makes me like this one even more, as there’s no doubt in my mind the crafty right-hander has the best stuff on the Rays' staff. Despite a 6-6 mark this season, his ERA is a respectable 3.70, and he’s shown me consistent aggressiveness while maturing on the mound each start.

Garza’s in double revenge against Oakland too, as he’s 0-2 with a 3.50 ERA in three career appearances against the A's. And prior to the setback in Arlington, he produced impressive wins against Philadelphia and at Toronto, allowing two earned runs over 15 innings of work while striking out 10. He’s fanned a minimum of five batters his last five times on the hill and in eight of his last nine starts.

On the flip side, we’re going against a hurler who has certainly shown promise by allowing no more than three earned runs in nine straight starts, but is no match for the surging Rays at Tropicana Field, where they’ve won nine straight now. Tampa Bay has won 24 of 29 at Tropicana Field and is an American League-best 30-13 at home.

All Rays tonight with Garza an easy choice over Braden.

Blue Jays (Toronto) vs. Orioles (Baltimore)

Orioles (Baltimore)-105

The second game of this three-game weekend set at Camden Yards between the host Baltimore Orioles and the visiting Toronto Blue Jays has a first pitch scheduled for 7:05PM Eastern Time on Saturday evening. The Jays took the opener by a final score of 2 to 0 on Friday. We expect the host to bounce back on Saturday night they had previously won three straight at home versus Toronto until the loss yesterday. Toronto is 18-26 W/L (-6.4) on the highway this season and only 8-17 W/L (-10.0) when facing division opponents. The Blue Jays will send left-hander Ricky Romero to the bump with his record of 2-2 W/L and ERA of 3.60 when he starts away from home. He was involved in the Jays 0-3 W/L performance their last trip here the end of May. Romero started on May 26th pitched for 5.3 innings allowing five earned runs on eleven hits including three homeruns in a 7 to 2 loss. He faces an Orioles team that has averaged 5.3 runs per game at home this season with a batting average of .299 and an OBP of .361. The Orioles have held opponents to 4.7 runs per game with a .277 batting average and an OBP of .331 at Camden Yards in 2009. The Orioles will send Bradley Bergesen to the hill with his 5-1 W/L home record and ERA of 2.83 in nine starts this season Baltimore has won seven of those nine games. Bergesen took the mound in Toronto back on May 2 pitching for 6 innings giving up 3 earned runs in a 5 to 4 loss but was not involved in the decision. The Orioles are 4-1 W/L the last 5 Bergesen starts at home. The Jays are 5-16 W/L on the road versus teams that have a winning home record, 4-17 W/L versus the AL East and 1-7 W/L when installed as a road favorite. Our TPR (Team Performance Ratings) Index projects an Orioles win by 0.88 runs in tonight’s contest. Our Math Model and Pitcher Efficiency Index have the Orioles winning by a larger margin with the Math Model projecting a win by 1.4 runs and our PEI has them winning by 1.79 runs. We will back the host as they bounce back from Friday’s loss and get the Game Two victory.

Friday Recap - Sometimes if it were not for bad luck
we'd have no luck at all. Yesterday we got a push. It
didn't cost us anything but with Oswalt on cruise
control he hurt his hand at the end of the 6th and then
went out to start the 7th where he had to come out and
the pen allowed the Nats to put up a 4 spot which
cost us our jackpot. No harm though...just a day
off the calender.

Today's Play(s) - Today I'm flying blind. I really
like the matchup of Garza vs Anderson in the favor
of Tampa Bay. Problem is that I have NO IDEA what
the line is. I can't find another game that I like and
I'm constrained by time as I have to get this entry
in on time or the email won't get sent. So I'm going
to guess that Tampa is -200 and go from there.

St. Louis Cardinals at Chicago Cubs

The Cubs will be more than happy not to be underdogs today as Friday's loss dropped them to a miserable 2-14 in that role this season. Now, the "cards" are in their favor as St. Louis averages a scant 3.8 runs per game vs. lefties and must solve Ted Lilly, who boasts a fantastic 1.96 ERA in eight home starts this season. St. Louis starter Brad Thompson has been a disaster of late with three straight losses, including two by a combined 21-0 margin!

NY Yankees at LA ANGELS

Friday night comp play winner on the Braves, now 8-4 the last 12 days for free!

G-Man is all about a HIGH-SCORING game between the Yankees and the Angels this Saturday afternoon.

Sure Andy Pettitte, and Jered Weaver have had their moments this season, but neither has fooled the others team much in the recent past, as Pettite's last 23 innings against the Halos have seen 20 runs score. As for Weaver, he has allowed 18 runs against the Yankees over his last 22 innings of work against them.

Last night's game was able to clear the impost, making it 4 games played between the teams this season, 4 OVERS played between the teams this season!

Hard to argue those numbers, G-Man going with the OVER in Saturday's matinee between the Yankees and Angels.

Atlanta + over Colorado

Atlanta is batting .297 in the last ten games and this is a game where the starting pitchers have very deceiving records. Jason Marquis has had a fine season but his season ERA is considerably higher than his counterpart on the mound tonight Jair Jurrjens. Marquis is 11-5 while Jurrjens is 6-7. Marquis has been less effective at home while Jurrjens has been a superior road pitcher and he pitched well against the Rockies in a May start. The Rockies are 26-8 in the last 34 games but just 6-5 in the last eleven and the offense has cooled off considerably, batting just .228 in that span. The recent stretch of winning has created inflated lines for the Rockies and Atlanta will be a dangerous underdog Saturday night, playing with their top pitcher on the mound. The Braves should also have a significant edge once this game gets into the bullpens.

Big Al Mcmordie

At 4:10pm our member selection is on the St. Louis Cardinals over the Chicago Cubs. There are plenty of All-Star snubs to point out this year (Russell Branyan and Nick Markakis in the American League; Adam Dunn and Jason Werth in the National League) but when it comes to pitchers (who are chosen by the coaches and not the fans) perhaps the one name that stands out the most is the Cardinals' Chris Carpenter, who pitched yesterday vs. the Cubs' Rich Harden. After all, we're talking about a former Cy Young award winner who came back this season from major surgery to put up phenomenal numbers so far, despite a short stint on the shelf with an injury. And we're also talking about a guy who has pitched the last seven seasons of his Major League career in St. Louis, the host city of this season's mid-summer Classic. In contrast, today's starter for the Cubbies, veteran Ted Lilly will not only be at the All-Star Game in St. Louis next Tuesday, but he will be the Cubs' lone representative to the game. Pretty surprising when you consider that many people picked Chicago to win its division and perhaps go much further this season. But the offense really hasn't clicked so far for Lou Piniella and company, and Lilly and his teammates will certainly have their hands full this afternoon against one of the most potent offenses in the league. The Cardinal bats are really heating up lately, and it's more than just Albert Pujols doing the damage. Rookie outfielder Colby Rasmus has been punishing the ball. Of course it doesn't hurt that LaRussa has been batting Rasmus directly in front of Pujols so he's getting some pretty good pitches thrown his way.

Take the Cards. As always, good luck...Al McMordie.

Jumper Jack - real consistent capper.

3-2 yesterday(+550) and now 210-173 for the season in MLB (+$8,692) and back to positive for the week (+340)

LA Angels -105 $400 The Angels are an incredible 25-5 at home in day games the last 2 years combined(7-1 this year), and they are also a perfect 9-0 the last 2 years in home day games against lefthanded starters averaging an astounding 7.56 runs/game! Jered Weaver has a 1.91 ERA at home this year, and the Angels are 7-2 in his home starts. Weaver also has a 1.12 ERA in day games, and in his only 2 daytime starts at home this year he did not allow even 1 ER in either. The Angels are 17-6 the last 23 at home against the Yankees and 11-4 against them last 15 overall. The Angels are 13-4 their last 17 games following a win, looks like the Angels go up 2-0 in the series.
