SARANDON MOVIE ON CBS FINISHES LAST PLACE IN OVERNIGHTS

Outspoken anti-war activist Susan Sarandon hit severe ratings turbulence on CBS Sunday night with her original telefilm ICE BOUND -- landing last in overnight ratings and losing nearly 40% of audience levels from the previous Sunday on CBS.

I'll bet dollars to doughnuts the international ratings weren't affected. But either way, this is not what has happened in the past with anyone (including the likes of John Rocker). Most people are in greater demand after their controversial remarks/stances.

I wouldn't compare her to jane fonda...

that's a little exaggerated. What jane did could be construed as "aiding and abetting the enemy".

This movie aside, what has happened to Sarandon, Robbins and others is really a virulent form of political corectness. In this case it's really "Patriotic Correctness". Just like with political correctness where liberals want everyone to be careful what they say so as not to offend anybody, patriotic correctness is like a contest to see who can sound more patriotic. It's dangerous, it's scary and it's even worse than political correctness. Conservatives should be ashamed of themsleves for not being able to handle dissent and for looking to ostracize anyone who does dissent.

D2,
they can say whatever they want, just don't expect 75% of the people to like it. and expect some not to pay for their movies.

they were free to say what they wanted. no one has to agree with them.

I understand that and I still think it's scary that people are juding people's opinions and what they say to determine whether they will essentially do business with them. It's politxla correctness run amok...having to be extra careful about what you say so as not to offend anybody. It stifles free speech and it is a bad thing. I don't say people don't have a right to do what they want, I'm just saying it's scary.

d2,
republicans have not been welcome in hollywood for along time. if these idiots continue to say stupid stuff then they deserve what they get.

They are both excellent actors, which is all I care about. If we start excluding actors on the basis of their politics we won't have much of a talent pool.

those actors are just sheeple anyway if the directors become republican then the actors will follow to get roles. right now their all left wingers so that plays with the directors and gets them jobs.

It's a way of blacklisting without the actual congressional movement to do so. After awhile, if the situation worsens, directors/producers might wish to not include actors like Sarandon and Robbins in their movies. What then? Is this not what happened during the McCarthy Era? And for something nothing near to "un-american" as "having communist ties".
I use the above quotes for obvious reasons, namely that I disagree with the notion that political affiliations should hinder one's employment opportunities.
In brief, the slander of anyone's character is, while a display of a consumer's freedom, at the same time anti-democratic.

RFC,
hollywood is concerned with ratings and how much money they can make. if the actors piss off the public and the ratings fall off the charts then shows will be cancelled. it's just basic economics. good ratings=money for hollywood, bad ratings=cancelled shows. most americans are sick of their stupid shit, however, they are free to spew it.

I would not pick what actor I watch based on his politics anymore than I would pick a candidate I vote for based on his acting ability.I seem to be at odds with the general public on both counts.
