Have had an account with them a few months but today was first time I made a bet over the phone.

Guy answers "Sports"

Talks like hes doing me a favor by taking bet, doesnt know what the limits are and then just hangs up on me after I give confirmation info.

What , no thank you or good luck asshole!!

Is this normal, cause I sure hope I dont have to call them again if it is.

Yeah..NORMAL. I wouldn't take it personally. There are only a handful of books these days where a bettor's money is rock solid safe. CRIS is one of them. So, I deal with it.

If you call using your home phone or cell phone they will sell the number to other handiscammers. I always call them from a pay phone.

Yeah CRIS is all business on the phone, they don't ask and pretend to be interested about your kids or how's the weather, they want your action and they want to move on. Personally I like it that way but maybe I'm just used to it, one of my favorite books now.

Calling in a bet is not like calling Sears customer service and asking how the Maytags are moving. Sure some clerks could be a little more curteous or jocular etc. but what really counts is getting the bet written correctly and the read back verified also correctly. Everything else is window dressing. Call center clerks are not there to get you to take a particular side, lay a particular number or bet any particular type of bet. They want your account number, password, game number after which they give you what hopefully is the correct line or lines at that moment. The player then says give them the team they want at that price they were read for however much money they want to bet and then the readback insues again hopefully a correct one. End of story.

I have had players actually cancel a bet on me because I said good luck at the end of the call.

CRIS CS not the friendliest, but they record bets properly and pay you promptly...

Lets not forget that NFL Sunday is the busiest time of the week for the larger books, and the clerks are under instructions to take the wagers promptly and courteously, and keep the calls as brief as possible. Its nothing against you, thats how most larger books are, especially on the busy days.

These kids are lucky to be earning $5 an hour, they dont care if you win or lose, nor should you care whether they wish you luck or not. You got your bet down, the rest is in the lap of the Gods.

If you want to discuss your wager after youve made it, phone a friend or buy a dog.

since your money is safe at cris, people shouldnt be critical of their customer service?

just goes to show how low some gamblers expectations are.

lets be honest, they look at their players as 'losers'. they know that most of the players will lose money to them yet keep coming back because of the psychological need to gamble.

my money is safe at my local bank and they process my deposits and withdrawals accurately. does that give them the right to act like theyre doing their customers a favor by processing their transactions?

its not about really caring if they mean it when the offer a simple 'good luck' or 'thanks for calling'.

its about being professional.

i dont give a shit how busy there are. who cares what theyre earning. i didnt know these people were forced into labor at the sportsbooks against their will. next time i win a bet, maybe ill give the phone operator a kickback just because of all he went through to take my call.

'woe is the sportsbooks'. they have it so rough with people phoning them on an nfl sunday just waiting to lose money to them.

they charge us a % on deposits. they charge us a fee on withdrawals. they take 10% on our losing bets.

wake the fu.ck up guys.

instead of being degenerates that are just happy to be subservient because books are doing you a favor by facilitating your need to gamble, why not actually EXPECT them to treat you with some dignity when you give them business.

poor customer service doesnt fly in the real world. it shouldnt fly in the gambling world just because 'they pay on time'.

You do realise that most of these sportsbooks are located in Third World countries, dont you? I think youre getting confused with what youre used to expecting in your normal every day busines that youre conducting. The clerks ( not customer service by the way ) couldnt give a rats ass whether you bet there or not, let alone care if your dignity or feelings are hurt because they didnt wish you the best of British luck. The books have a very limited labour pool to choose their staff from, and professionalism can lack because of this. Im not saying that its right, but its something that most people have learned to accept, and they have learned to choose security over having their ass kissed on every phone call.

The real world, the gambling world and the Third world are three completely and entirely different spheres, perhaps its you who should wake the fuck up, and get out of your fantasy world.

im in a fantasty world because i expect to be treated with dignity when i call to give someone my business?

so because they live in a third world country, professionalism and tact arent required of them?

there is something to be said for the human work ethic that transcends all socioeconomic barriers -- it doesnt cost a single cent to take pride in your disposition every time you go to work.

do you need to be 'trained' to say thank you? do you need to be trained to treat people with dignity? isnt that a trait that is inherent in people, yet remains a personal choice as to whether or not they choose to exhibit it?

should we hold sportsbook clerks to a different standard? isnt that even MORE insulting to them? that we (apparently) expect them to be inferior to us in terms of their socialization?

its amazing how low some gamblers' standards are.

apparently the need to have 'action' trumps the right to be treated appropriately.

apparently its now 'kissing ass' to say "thank you" or take pride in ones job.

scary thought.

america. europe. costa rica. the moon. it doesnt matter. treating people appropriately transcends class.

it doesnt matter if its a transaction between wealthy americans or if its as simple as someone buying rice or tomatoes from a rundown market in a poor country.

I think whats more amazing is how high ( or deluded ) your standards are and how you feel the need to hold everyone else up to your lofty standards. Perhaps most gamblers ( excepting you and MagKing1 ) couldnt care less whether they hear a " thank you " or " best of luck " at the end of each phone call. As long as they get their wager down correctly, and in time, im sure that the vast majority could care less.

Lets look at this both ways, shall we. How many gamblers could give a shit about the clerk taking his/her wager? I'll give you a hint, it starts with the letter ' Z ' and rhymes with " hero ". Do you have any experience in regards to how rude and obnoxious some gamblers can be? They can be the most ignorant and self-absorbed assholes around.

If you want to hear please and thank you from everyone you deal with then I suggest you dont hold your breathe, as it isnt going to happen and it could be detrimental to your health. Perhaps you could buy a parrot and train it to be ridiculously polite, and then you can get all the pleases and thank you your heart, and over-idealising mind desire. Youre living in the wrong century.

Most people dont care what happens after they complete a transaction, theyre just happy to have finalised it, especially in the gambling industry. Not all people need to feel like that because theyre doing business with someone that theyre doing them a massive a favour and are worthy of receiving a medal for it. If you dont like how youre treated, go elsewhere. There are an abundance of other sportsbooks to choose from and im sure a couple of them make it mandatory for every clerk to be over the moon and giddy to receive a phonecall from a customer.

syddiggers,

what the hell is in the water up there in canada? please tell me your views arent consistent with how all canadians think. expecting a phone operator to be polite is a 'lofty standard'? give me a break. its about showing respect for your job and the person on the other end of the phone. nobody is asking them to be 'overly anything'. my expectations are fairly simple, whether its calling a sportsbook, going to the post office, or buying a pair of shoes: be knowledgeable in your field, offer reasonable help with my request, and dont act like im wasting your fuc.king time.

i dont know, maybe you enjoy being treated like a degenerate. thats your choice. but if i call and say "hi, my account is xxxx, i need to make a wager please" (which is what i say, verbatim, every time i call), then you can damn well rest assured i expect a reciprocation of respect. theres nothing deluded or overly idealistic about that.

i dont know why cris arrogantly thinks they have the sports betting world by the balls. a book like betjamaica is rock solid and (what a concept) actually values customer service whether it be via email or over the phone.

"if you dont like how youre treated, go elsewhere"
is that really what these books should be implicitly saying? i sure hope not.

Instead of arguing with him for his post just tell him what every other person gets when a new CRIS customer service thread pops up (which is at least a weekly occurance).

They are an "A" book when it comes to absolutely everything really important.

They are an "F" book when it comes to everything CS.

Do you have any recommendations Wil? Dont worry, I wont expect them to say please and thank you. Im low maintenance that way.

For me, the last thing on my mind after ive placed a wager is whether the clerk thanked me or wished me good luck. From my end I want the call to be as brief as possible, ask the line, state my play, have it read read it back and hang up. Unless the guy tells me to fuck off after the call then I dont care. If he is overly rude to me then it only makes me want to win a little more.

Ive found that most clerks are being curt, and not being rude. Theyre told not to tie up the phone lines and want the call completed as quickly as possible. I could care less what a guy living 3000 miles away from me is thinking or cares, especially when the guy who works in the corner store I patronise is an asshole to my face on a daily basis.

Except on weekends when their payout department is closed.

While I don't expect to be treated like a king I expect to be treated decently and I'm not getting that at CRIS. I'm taking my business elsewhere.

You got to be kidding. Can you list the fortune 500 companies that have a live person answer the phone in a few seconds? Not a f***ing tone dialing system that takes 3 minutes to listen to the endless menus, and some automated bitch telling me I am 59th in the queue that will take approximately 4 hours and 32 minutes to get to a rep. And even then, you get some places like Dell and you are screwed talking to an idiot for 30 minutes about sending you the wrong battery, or Ebay telling you that they can't transfer calls and to try email. But for sure, when they finally explain why they can't do a god damned thing for you, they will merrily say "Is there anything else I can help you with Sir. Have a nice day."

Sportsbook telephone service rocks compared to the vast majority of industries.
