If you want to solve the immigration crisis, make it a felony to hire an undocumented person. Then take the $5 billion and hire FBI agents to investigate all companies to see if they hire undocumented workers. If someone hired an undocumented worker, send the Board of Directors of that company or the person who hired that person to prison. Once you cut off the supply of jobs, the undocumented/illegal workers will stop coming.

employers can hire anyone as an independent contractor whether it's as a roofer, mowing lawns, cooking, dishwasher, nanny, cleaning hotel rooms, etc

if you're caught you pay like $400 penalty but you can ask the worker to fill out the i9 and provide the info but you're only legally obligated to collect those ID cards (most are faked or one social security card and/or drivers license used by a dozen people).

estimate is that 12-14% of hospitality industry is undocumented.

They Can and will file multiple tax returns with max exemptions and get multiple refunds. They know how to play the game. The left is more scared of the political win than anything better for the country happening.

trump offers a very small carrot, I doubt that this will get a great response from
Pelosi and Schumer which he knows. this is all a battle for public opinion.
I bet trump would like to take back that sound bite where he said he would
be proud to own the government shutdown, because much of this is trying
