It nonetheless remains a fact nationwide that it's very, very rare for police upper management to not instantly side with officers' actions, regardless of race. The only "news" in the thread topic case would be if the Cambridge PD brass and/or the union were to publicly distance themselves from Crowley's clumsy mismanagement of events at Mr Gates's private residence. <!-- / message -->

Ok you can have it your way to a point. But its not an anomaly for politically admin. hacks to have either a no comment or some sort wishy washy no confidence statement on matters such as this.I've seen it first hand.Sort of throwing you under the bus without throwing under the bus.

But for the Cambridge Commish. to come out this strongly on Crowleys behalf (when i garantee they already got their marching orders) AFTER the POTUS,Gov. mayor all gave the "high" sign on which way to go is incredible.

Got a question. Would it not have diffused the situation more amicably and efficiently had Sgt. Crowley just got in his patrol car and left?

Absolutley. Like what they did in some other state only to find hostages and dead victim later.

How about Gates acting like a human fuckin being? would that have diffused the situation?

Jesus H. Christ...The cop was called to go to the house for a possible break in by TWO men breaking down a door with their shoulder.
You don't need a warrant.

Utterly moot with regard to the protections afforded under the Fourth Amendment for people within their private residence. That's been established case law for upwards of a century now.

Thank you, Mr. Peabody

like i said, people view shit differently. some people have such a pasionate hatred for persons of authority that they can't wait to show their ass and say "fuck you pig, i know my rights".

personally, i'm one of those who pauses for a moment of silence when an officer loses his life in the line of duty. i say such bullshit as "yes sir". of course, i don't drive with unlawful contents in my vehicle nor do i partake in or conceal illegal acts in my home. and in my own personal experience with law enforcement, from getting a dui in '97 to having the county sheriff live a few houses down from me today, i have never been given a reason other than to assume that the cop i may bump into tomorrow is only trying to do his job, and sometimes that might be a nuisance to me.

What a incredibly common sense way to conduct your life.

If Gates had 1/10th of your common sense and 90% less arrogance or maybe I should say ignorance, he could have avoided the hole incident. :toast:

Could this have influenced BO’s rush to judgment?

JERUSALEM – Henry Louis Gates Jr., the Harvard professor at the center of the current national race controversy, once held a political fundraiser for President Obama, WND has learned.

Gates regularly rents homes in Martha's Vineyard, where he vacations frequently. In an interview last year with Martha's Vineyard Magazine, the professor related a fundraiser he held at a #""house in the town of Harthaven for Obama during his race for the Senate:

"The last several years, I've written a book there every summer. It's a great house for events too. We had a fundraiser for Barack Obama when he was running for the Senate," Gates told the magazine.

Gates also said he talked to Obama numerous times and that he donated the maximum allowable contribution to Obama's presidential campaign.

Gates could not be immediately reached for comment.

The bottom line in this whole matter Prof. Gates,Mayor Simmons,Gov. Patrick, President Obama and the rest of you nonsensical left wing ninies regarding policeman like Sgt Crowley is...

Memorable quotes for
A Few Good Men

You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use then as the backbone of a life trying to defend something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you," and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest that you pick up a weapon and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to.

Of course

But then he would have had to face the observers on the street who might ask, "Are you going to let someone talk to you like that??".

Pride has contributed to a lot of people doing foolish acts, but likely few moreso than cops pulling out the cuffs.

You don't need a warrant.

Police must have a warrant to enter a private residence without permission unless they have clear evidence that a crime is being perpetrated.

The 4th Amendment is very, very stern as to when, where and why an officer of the state may enter a private residence without permission of the owner or resident.

Correct

From most reports, it looks to me as if Gates made several foolish decisions, including his choice of language to a police officer who has the ability to make his life difficult - legality be damned.
