Ditto. This is a good hire and a completely different personality from Pelini. What NU is getting in HC Riley is a class act on and off the field. One thing you can say about his kids is he coaches them up. They may come into OSU as 2 or 3 stars but they play like 4 or 5 stars when they leave. The guys he sends to the pro's are coachable and ready to step onto the field and perform. He's a coaches coach who leaves no stone unturned in preparation. Other than than this year, he's done more with less than any other coach on the West Coast and it was just a matter of time before someone pulled him away from Corvalis.

This is the truth. Take a look at Oregon State before 1997.

I have a hard time believing that Riley will do a better job then Pelini..Really surprised he would take this job considering this stage of his career & his ties to the state.. Maybe he knew he was being pushed out.

Could this be some sort of combo deal whereby Riley brings Frost along with him as well to be his OC while showing him the ropes on how to be a head coach for when he retires in a few years?

So the fact that he could not win more than 5 games with 7 offensive starters and 7 defensive starters returning means nothing to you guys? The fact that 4 out of his last 11 wins came against Portland State and Hawaii means nothing? The fact that he was 6-12 against conference opposition in the past two years means nothing? This is what Nebraska is looking for? Good luck. Riley had a very promising, record setting QB in Sean Mannion to start the season, but that led to nothing. Oregon State was 4-1 after it's first 5 games and then went 1-6 the rest of the way. Oregon is really upset that he left. They had won the last 7 meetings between the two rivals.

Paul Rhoads never wins more than 5 or 6 games at Iowa State, but I would take him in a minute over 50% of the name coaches in the country. Why is it always about wins and losses with you? It's not the X's and O's, it's the Jimmy's and Joe. Riley was never going to get the blue chip recruits at OSU. They never had the tradition of the other schools in their conference.

no. Nebrasksa makes its living getting players from Texas. Nebraska already recruits the west coast better than Oregon St when they need to, they just dont need to.

You are right Chris.....Nebraska has recruited outside of the state for years but so have most school.
The fertile "recruiting fields of America" are fair-territory to the highest-bidder, besides, there is limited talent in the Cornhusker State.

i think he did a good job at oregon state. as mentioned very hard place to get players. only comparison in pac-12 is WSU.

nebraska is a funny one. years ago i think they ran a national (or at least super-regional) recruiting program before almost any other schools. maybe it ties into their very innovative and extensive strength training program which everyone has now.

i think nebraska is far above oregon state in terms of potential but still lots of challenges.

Im hesitant to put much stock in Nebraska's recruiting the last 7 years. The first 4 years of Pelini, they werent good.organization was bad abd it wasnt taken seriously enough. The last 3 yesrs, it was restructured and it improved. But if you look at ir, they were all over. They'd recruit Texas heavy one year, then it was California, then Louisiana. Maybe that's just how it will be with little longterm pipeliness. The 2015 class is heavy on 500-mile radius guys, which it should be if the talent is there, imo. But looking at Riley and hearing some things...its not a splash hire ... But it seems like he did a lot with little. Heard the facilities are near the bottom. He might be a good fit.

Bo Pelini was 67-27.....Mike Riley in last 5 seasons is 29-33. He is wishy washy and his wife wears the pants in the family. He is a nice guy that will get run over at Nebraska. This is the worst hire I have ever seen. Riley was content at OSU because he does not deal well with pressure. The fans at Nebraska got pissed at Pelini because he said FUCK YOU after they all left at halftime, while his team came back from 21 down to beat UCLA. The press will love this nice guy but the FANS will leave him at halftime as well if he is not winning and the pressure to have better than a 3-4 loss season will NOT GO AWAY. Pelini never lost more than 4 games and many of those years were 10 win seasons......it was a matter of time he was gone because of what he said.....but if you compare Florida paying 7 million to hire a coach where Nebraska pays 7.5 million to fire one and replace with Mike Riley? What a joke......

Tommy Frazier. Erich Crouch. Scott Frost. All from Nebraska. Lawrence Phillips from Arkansas. Yeah. Its nice to make inroads on the west coast but Nebraska has done quite well over the years without any surfer kids.

My real point is this hire was not about recruiting at all. Nebraska sells itself. Even in these down years with 9-4 teams Pelini out recruited Oregon St AND Oregon. West coast recruiting is not a priority at Nebraska because they can get better players already.

Tommy Frazier was a Florida man.....Bradenton....I saw him play a couple H.S. games....One helluva running back.

It is about wins and losses because that is where the money is, and all I care about is the money. Do you think I, or 80% of the real gamblers out there would waste their time on these kids, half of whom cannot spell their name without looking at their Social Security Card, if we could not profit from them? What is the point? If you are so concerned about the kids, join the PTA. Just keep out of the way of those who are in this for the money. In the mean time, I have already started looking for next years Oklahoma excuses. They will lose a few starters on their offensive line, but their defense really should be solid. There will be absolutely no excuse for OU to give up 30 or more points in any game next season, like they did 5 times this season. Is it Stoops brother? We know that Bob will not get rid of kin folk.

Riley wanted to stay at Oregon state because nothing was expected out of him, so when his teams did not deliver (which was often), it was no big deal. Now he decides to throw himself in the pressure cooker. He will last about 3 years. I think he is just looking for a nice big payday. Then he and his wife will go back to Oregon, a place that fits them quite nicely. Earlier in his career, he did have some rather good seasons, but in four out of his past five seasons, his teams have been major disappointments, which was tough to do because not much was expected out of them to begin with, especially when you look at their schedule. He did manage to upset Wisky 10-7 back in 2012. Maybe this is why Nebraska hired him.

I have no idea what your talking about here with all of your betting crap. It has nothing to do with a coaching hire. In Riley's case it's all about geography, tradition and an improving conference going against him in recent years. And his teams weren't going to get any better with 2 and 3 star recruits. It was a good time to move on. I won't get into with you concerning OU just like I don't criticize your team every time USC chokes. There are reasons for everything. Some problems get fixed and some don't. I'm not psychic, so I can't tell you what will happen.

They beat my SunDevils a couple weeks back in Corvalis and we were ranked #7 at the time. He also beat USC several times when they were in the top 3 in the country. Would it surprise you to know that Oregon State has 17 players on current NFL rosters.

Nobody and I mean nobody here does shallow better than you do. Why you are at it why don't you talk about Haden's hiring of Sarkisian for your beloved Trojans. He was mediocre at Washington and after that embarrassing beat down by UCLA proving that he is not capable of making USC elite any time in the near future.

You mean the same Trojans that handed that fraud of a team in Norman the worst BCS Championship Butt Kicking ever? 55-19? The game that broke Bob Stoops and made him the coach he is today compared to the coach he was before OU got it handed to him? That same team that has an alltime record of 6-2-1 against your Okies? That Trojan team? The team that OU is afraid to schedule again? I see that OU scheduled UCLA for 2018 and 19, but no USC. Stoops is not fool. He stuck his hand in the fire once and got burned big time. Why do it again?

While we are on the ancient history kick...

We're going inside of ‘em, we're going outside of ‘em -- inside of ‘em! outside of ‘em! -- and when we get them on the run once, we're going to keep ‘em on the run. And we're not going to pass unless their secondary comes up too close. But don't forget, men -- we're gonna get ‘em on the run, we're gonna go, go, go, go! -- and we aren't going to stop until we go over that goal line! And don't forget, men -- today is the day we're gonna win. They can't lick us -- and that's how it goes... The first platoon men -- go in there and fight, fight, fight, fight, fight! What do you say, men!
