Thanks, I thought he did well for his first fight, especially against a guy who had already won 3 times. I will mention your offer to him next time I talk with him and see if he is interested. I'm sure he will want to gain some more experience before taking fights in another area. He has a good trainer(also fought last night in one of the main matches)so hopefully he will improve. He was wanting to get Jack McVicker as his trainer but the guy is just too expensive for him."As long as he's on top of him he's getting the better of him" -the people I love to pull guard on.
Just at messing with ya. Not a bad first showing at all, and definitely something to build on.
Please tell me how I'm misinformed? I would love to hear.
He actually had 2 trainers working with him for this fight. One of them you can hear coaching him during the fight on the video. He started out training about a year ago and was just grappling at first but then decided he wanted to try getting in the cage for an MMA fight. He trained vigorously for 3 months leading up to this fight. He took a break after that fight and has been working on his music(he plays guitar and writes music) since then. He told me today he is going to start training again soon but not sure he wants to fight in the cage again and may just stick with grappling. I was a little surprised when he told me he loved doing it that one time but doesn't really like the idea of hurting someone the way someone can be hurt in an MMA fight.Congratulations. Just wondering, did he just learn to fight himself or did he have any sort of formal training? The reason I ask is that I have a son who is into MMA. I'm not too crazy about it, but I know I won't be able to stop him. It's the only sport he really likes.
My 28 year old son,who admitted to us he was an alcoholic over 2 years ago and hasn't had a drink since, has been training for last year and a half for this night and it was a very successful debut for him. Fighting at the 145 lb class, he took his opponent(a 3 time winner ) down about 30 seconds into the fight and stayed on top but was tied up with his opponent for the next minute. He was finally able to get his arms loose and pummeled his opponent with a flurry of punches until the ref stopped the fight at the 2 minute mark of 1st round. I'm a very proud Dad tonight...
I've seen worse injuries at a grappling tourney than I've seen in an MMA bout. Worse injury at our event last night was a nice cut under an eye, and a few black eyes to boot. Out of 13 fights, only 2 went to a decision. Last grappling tourney I did, I saw an arm basically snapped in half, and several broken fingers. Neither is for someone who doesn't "want to hurt someone." Try a soft hand art like aikido if that's your thinking IMO.He actually had 2 trainers working with him for this fight.
