RT, I'd love to go see one of my favorite programs play at a HS stadium. I remember when UF played in the 1992 Gator Bowl (I was 22 years old) and they practiced at Nease HS (future home of Tim Tebow). I was able to go watch from the stands there. That was a pretty cool experience, as I was still in my "jock-sniffer" days (as Coach LT would say). Spurrier was right there just a few yards away running the show (a young Steve Spurrier too!).

I used to love going to the Orange & Blue game, but haven't been since 2007 (the year before I moved to DC). Will Muschamp has ruined that event for Gator fans too (no game held last year because of lack of OL's).

From Gatorcountry.com:

At his pre-spring practice press conference Will Muschamp unveiled what will be the first team offensive line when the Gators hold the first practice a week from Wednesday:

CENTER: Max Garcia; LEFT GUARD: Trip Thurman; RIGHT GUARD: Tyler Moore; LEFT TACKLE: D.J. Humphries; RIGHT TACKLE: Chaz Green

On paper, this seems like a very solid unit. The only real question might be Garcia, who has not played the position. Garcia started at guard last season and moved to tackle when injuries depleted the team. He performed adequately, but it’s obvious that he’s better in the middle of the line than on the outside. This is Trip Thurman’s chance to excel. People tend to forget he was very highly regarded coming out of high school. This is his fourth year, about the time most linemen grow up. Tyler Moore played tackle last year but is definitely better suited for guard. If D.J. Humphries and Chaz Green stay healthy, the Gators should be fairly solid.

More from GC.com:

Shaking up the Offensive Line
  • The biggest move on the offensive line is moving left guard Max Garcia inside to center. Garcia will try to replace three-year starter Jonotthan Harrison.
  • Cam Dillard and Trip Thurman will back up Garcia this spring.
  • Muschamp said that for the first time since he enrolled D.J. Humphries has been able to keep his weight above 290-pounds. Humphries only played in half of the games last season but being able to maintain a heavier weight is something that he has worked hard at and a good sign moving forward.
  • Chaz Green (shoulder) is fully cleared for spring practice, as is Tyler Moore. Green will work at tackle, while Moore will slide inside permanently.
  • Rod Johnson has worked at both guard and tackle positions but Muschamp says they like the redshirt freshman at left tackle right now. He will compete with Humphries there.
  • Trenton Brown will work at both tackle and guard this spring.
  • Muschamp expects to have 10-11 healthy offensive linemen this spring.

Offensive talk
  • Muschamp said the Florida offense is going through a “drastic change schematically.”
  • Florida will use a lot more shotgun formations under Roper and Muschamp detailed how successful Florida was running out of the shotgun last season and acknowledged that it helps Jeff Driskel as a runner.

Quick Hitters
  • Muschamp hopes to have a conventional spring game this season and if the 10-11 offensive linemen can stay healthy that could still be an option.
I want to have a spring game every year. Last year I just didn’t feel like it was fair with six offensive linemen healthy to put those guys through that. You know, I want to have a spring game. I have all plans to have a spring game every year. I think it’s important for those guys to get out in front of that crowd, the coaches off the field, and make them make calls and communicate and produce. There’s no question. I want to have a spring game every year.”
  • Asked why Florida was opening more practices this season, Muschamp joked that he has friends in Gainesville that wanted to come and watch practice. While Muschamp still believes that opening practices can lead to a competitive disadvantage, Kurt Roper was fine with it and Muschamp felt it would be a good move for the program as a whole.
We’ve got great fans and I’m very appreciate of their support. I’ve had people reach out to me and say, ‘hey, we’d like to be able to have more access to the team.’ We’re really kind of set in what we do defensively. We are what we are. We are going to make subtle changes based on our personnel. We are what we are on special teams. Kurt and I sat down when I made the decision with Steve a couple weeks back and I said, ‘you have any issue with us opening practice?’ He said, ‘I don’t have any issue with what we’re doing.’ I think it’s best for our program at this time to do that.”

We shall see.. Muschamp is a "defense" oriented coach....It is hard to change the spots on a Leopard.

RT, I'm thinking Pitt has a chance to be pretty good this year. I haven't really gotten into their personnel in depth but really like the schedule for some nice wins.

Get Iowa, Delaware, Florida International and Akron at home. Will miss Florida State, Clemson, Louisville and Notre Dame. Also, get Duke, Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech at home.

this is from philsteele.com: this is not Steele's rankings - his will come out with his magazine in the spring. These are based on the method used by the NCAA:

Again this is the NCAA's method and not MINE!

When I release my toughest schedule rankings in the upcoming magazine my rankings take two major factors into account. The first is my 9 sets of Power Ratings. This ensures that an FCS team is rated lower than Florida that finished just 4-8 last year! The second factor is the amount of home and away games played.

Just a comment on Phil Steele. I had a hard time trying to understand how a handicapper could have 9 completely independent sets of power rankings and still have any credibility. Years later it makes more and more sense to me. There is no set way to come up with power rankings and you have to include many factors any way you look at it. By the same token surely one of those 9 should out produce the others in terms of winners and losers and it may not always be the same season after season. So there lies the dilema. Which system do you employ at a given time etc. I do think Steels's magazine is the best one out there and I do pay attention to his version of the toughest schedule because it uses a consensus of all 9 of his systems. You can check out the rest of the article on the 2014 toughest schedule at his online site. BOL

Actually he seems to improve on it a little every season also.

This weekend the following teams wrapped up their spring practices: Cincy, SMU, Michigan, Baylor, TCU, FAU, B Green, Fresno St, LSU, Ole Miss, S. Ala, and BYU. It appears that most coaches are emphasizing off season strength and conditioning and holding controlled scrimages as opposed to formal game type wrap up games. Emphasis is on preventing injuries also.

Cincy - QB Gunnier Kiel went 17-22 and threw for 300 yards

Michigan - Hoke said the entire team needs to improve across the board

Baylor - OL line has been hit hard with injuries this spring. They had a controlled scrimmage- someone commented it was more like a well attended practice. - QB Petty was inconsistent as a passer but looked improved as a runner

LSU - Very balanced on offense - the defense did return 2 int's for TD's (they face Wisc in their opener on 8/30)

Ole Miss - the offense prevailed under Sr. QB Bo Wallace who had no turnovers - they have emphasized and are pleased with the progess of the team as far as strength and conditioning goes - it also appears that they have a very promising Soph class

Bad news for Miami. Possibly starting a redshirt freshman when they roll into Lincoln? That's not good against a defensive line that is starting to look pretty damn good, maybe getting close to 2009 form....finally!

You are right, it is about time. Good for them. Defense is a big plus in the Big 10.

Watched the Oklahoma scrimmage game. I was impressed with the hitting. Very physical on both sides of the ball. It was very windy and that affected the passing. I think Mike Stoop's system is finally in place and he has finally made the transition back to being an assistant coach. Pass defense was impressive and good pressure on the QB's. Looks like the tight end is once again going to be involved in the game planning. Going to be much tougher for opposing defenses to know what's coming. Well rounded on offense and QB's can scramble. Better than I expected.

NORMAN, Okla -- In front of a crowd of 43,500, the largest for a spring contest in the Bob Stoops era, the White team defeated the Red team 28-13 in the 2014 Spring Game presented by US Fleeting Tracking Saturday afternoon inside Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
On Saturday, youth won the day for the Sooners as all players who scored touchdowns combined for zero last season.
“Today, we had some good plays, had some bad plays, but it’s fun to get out and play in front of 43,500 fans, which is just awesome to have that support,” quarterback Trevor Knight said. “We had a chance for a lot of young guys to come in and do some work. I’m excited to see how they’re working, and that holds true to the whole spring. Due to injuries and the competitive nature of the young guys, they were able to come in and work hard, and I’m excited about how they’re working.”
Sophomore quarterback Baker Mayfield led the White team, completing all nine of his pass attempts for 125 yards and throwing a game-high two touchdowns. Mayfield’s first touchdown came in the second quarter on an 8-yard toss to tight end Taylor McNamara, while his second was a 28-yard completion to Jordan Smallwood in the third.
The day’s first score came with 7:22 left in the first quarter on a 1-yard pass from Cody Thomas to McNamara, giving the White team an early 7-0 advantage, a lead it would hold for the remainder of the game.
With 7:23 left in the second quarter, quarterback Justice Hansen threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Austin Bennett, cutting the White team’s lead to 14-10.
Michael Hunnicutt then added a 47-yard field goal with 3:43 left in the half, bringing the score to 14-13 in favor of the White team. Hunnicutt also connected on a 52-yard field goal earlier in the game.
Bennett was the game’s leading receiver with four catches for 62 yards and a touchdown, and Jordan Smallwood recorded 60 yards on three catches and a score.
Justice Hansen finished the game with 58 yards on 4-of-8 passing with one touchdown and two interceptions, while Thomas went 5-of-9 passing for 54 yards. Trevor Knight tallied 53 yards on 5-of-14 passing with one interception.
Ogbonnia Okoronkwo picked off Hansen in the fourth quarter and returned it 39 yards to the 2-yard line, setting up the game’s final score, a rush from David Smith. Smith finished the game with 30 yards on nine carries.
With 67 yards on eight carries, Daniel Brooks was the game’s leading rusher, and Keith Ford added 29 yards on nine carries.
Ruben Hunter led the defense with nine tackles, while Aaron Franklin added five and grabbed an interception. Jordan Wade also had an interception, and Eric Striker recorded two sacks on back-to-back plays for 15 yards.
During pregame, an on-the-field ceremony and highlight segment recognized the Sooners’ for their Sugar Bowl win over Alabama, continuing the enthusiasm that has been with the program since the game.
“Hopefully our kids understand that they’re only going to be as good as their next performance,” co-offensive coordinator Josh Heupel said. “I do think that the energy is a positive thing for this program. Our kids understand that we’re not that far away from being where we want to be. They’re pushing for it every day.“
The Sooners will open the 2014 season on Saturday, Aug. 30, at home against Louisiana Tech.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Jameis Winston and the Garnet team beat the Gold squad, 31-14, Saturday in Florida State's annual spring football game at Doak Campbell Stadium.
Winston, who arrived in Tallahassee four hours before kickoff from Atlanta, Ga. where he was with the FSU baseball team for its series at Georgia Tech, completed 27 of 56 pass attempts for 394 yards with two touchdowns and one interception against the first-team `Noles defense on the Gold side. Asked afterwards why he threw nearly 60 times in a scrimmage, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner cited the Seminoles' most pressing offensive need this off-season.
Building chemistry in the passing game.
With so many young receivers being asked to step up and replace key contributors Kenny Shaw and Kelvin Benjamin, Winston needed as many repetitions this spring with Isaiah Jones, Kermit Whitfield and Jesus Wilson.
"We were trying to get the chemistry going and simulate a game as best we possibly can," Winston said. "And I think we did a good job at it. ... It was way better today. Just like our first scrimmage was iffy, our second scrimmage it got a little better and this scrimmage was way better. We had a lot of young guys step up."
Wilson finished the day for Garnet with 101 yards and one touchdown on four catches while Jones showed great speed and moves with his 6-foot-4 frame, catching five passes for 81 yards. Whitfield added 79 yards on four grabs.
Star Rashad Greene was his typically dominant self. The senior leader of the pass-catching corps grabbed 11 passes for 127 yards and one score. Fellow seniors Jarred Haggins and Christian Green combined for seven catches, 109 yards and one touchdown. Walk-on Rashad Gholston had a touchdown catch and 70 yards, too.

9919541.jpeg
Ro'Derrick Hoskins made the biggest play of his young career Saturday on this 63-yard interception return.
"Every time I come to the sideline I talk to the young guys individually," Winston said. "Like, "what you saw?' And `what you need when you're open?' Stuff like that. Just to get their feedback on what's going on."
It wasn't just Winston that got in some good work under center Saturday; Sean Maguire and John Franklin III had ample opportunities as well -- and both took advantage on the Gold team.
Maguire finished 15-of-28 for 203 yards, one touchdown and one interception and Franklin III was 5-of-10 for 103 yards and a touchdown. Franklin was particularly impressive in a final two-minute drill in which he orchestrated a late score on a 19-yard pass to Haggins.
"I think both of them should take that from this scrimmage," FSU coach Jimob Fisher said, referencing the benefit of both young quarterbacks' strong play on a bigger stage.
FSU played Saturday without a scholarship tailback available, so fullback Freddie Stevenson and Nigel Terrell were featured in single-back sets. Both players were linebackers on the roster at this time last year.
Stevenson paced Garnet with a game-high 85 yards on 18 carries and added one touchdown run. Terrell ran just once but hauled in four passes for 58 yards.
Defensively, the first-team defense forced two first-half fumbles and picked up a Jalen Ramsey interception despite playing without starters Ronald Darby, Nate Andrews, Nile-Lawrence Stample and Ukeme Eligwe. Garnet benefitted from Ro'Derrick Hoskins 63-yard interception return for a touchdown late in the first half.
E.J. Levenberry posted a game-best eight tackles for Garnet and Reggie Northrup added six. Lamarcus Brutus led Gold with seven.
As it is intended to be, Saturday's spring finale featured two teams competing while also making each other better.
"That's the best part; we've got to be competitive," Ramsey said. "We've got to make them tough and most importantly we've got to have fun. That's how we get better. We do the same thing in practices. We just have to compete."
And the fun started early for Gold.
A three-and-out by the Garnet offense an 18-yard Cason Beatty punt gave Maguire a short field and capitalized. The second-string quarterback was a perfect 3-for-3 on a drive that ended with a 29-yard strike to Gholston for the game's first score.
Winston answered with 24-yard swing pass to Terrell on the ensuing drive but his deep-pass attempt a few plays later was batted by Tyler Hunter and Brutus and intercepted by Ramsey.
A few drives later. Stevenson churned out back-to-back big runs and then Winston scrambled to move the chains on third down. After Green hauled in a first-down pass, Stevenson dashed into the redzone. But Winston's fumble on the next play was scooped up by Matthew Thomas for Gold. A three-and-out later, Winston's bomb hit Wilson in stride but the sophomore had the ball poked out near the goal line by P.J. Williams for the third Garnet turnover.
Gold's drive then ended with a missed 50-yard field goal by Roberto Aguayo as time expired in the first quarter.
Working with half a field, the Garnet offense was able to open the second frame by doing something it hadn't done in the first: score a touchdown. A 67-yard scoring drive featured a long Winston-Greene connection and ended with Stevenson's six-yard rush into the north endzone to tie the score 7-7.
Long completions to Greene and Green midway through the second quarter put Garnet back in scoring position and Aguayo knocked home a 37-yard field goal to give Garnet it's first lead of the day -- 10-7 -- with six minutes to play in the first half.
That lead then pushed to 17-7 thanks to Winston's six-yard touchdown throw to Greene with :36 left in the second quarter. Garnet then padded that lead before the halftime horn when Hoskins dropped into coverage and stepped in front of a Maguire pass before returning the interception 63 yards for the Garnet score.
Wilson later grabbed a 12-yard score from Winston and with 1:19 left in the game, Haggins secured Franklin's 19-yard pass for the game's final score.

CLEMSON, S.C. - Senior quarterback Cole Stoudt threw for 158 yards and two scores and senior defensive end Tavaris Barnes recorded a Clemson Spring Game record five sacks to lead the White Squad to a 24-5 victory over the Orange Squad in the program's annual Spring Game. The contest completed spring practice for Dabo Swinney's Tigers, who have ranked in the top 10 of the final USA Today poll each of the last two years.
A Clemson Spring Game record crowd of 33,000 attended the game that was played in brilliant sunshine at Memorial Stadium.
Stoudt completed 15-23 passes for 158 yards and two scores for the White team. One of the scores, a 16-yard touchdown pass, went to sophomore tight end Jordan Leggett, who led all receivers in the game with seven catches for 59 yards. Mike Williams caught the other touchdown pass on a 28-yard aerial down the left sideline heading towards the East Endzone.
Stoudt was supported in the running game by senior D.J. Howard who had nine rushes for 59 yards, including a 13-yard score in the fourth period. C.J. Davidson added 5-42 on the ground.
The White team defense did not allow a touchdown thanks to five sacks from Barnes. It should be noted that quarterbacks were ruled down when merely touched by the defense so it was easier than a normal game to record a sack. Ben Boulware led the White team with nine tackles, while red-shirt freshman Dorian O'Daniel added seven. The White team had two interceptions, one by Garry Peters and one by Adrian Baker.
The Orange Team scored a safety in the second period when Howard was tackled in the endzone by linebacker B.J. Goodson. The team's other score came on a 39-yard field goal by Ammon Lakip late in the game.
Chad Kelly completed 10-18 passes for 113 yards for the Orange Team. Nick Schuessler completed 7-17 for 67 yards for that team and was 3-3 for 26 yards for the White Team.
Daniel Rodriguez was the top receiver for the Orange team with 5-53, including a 32-yard catch in the first half. Adam Humphries had 3-39 receiving. Wayne Gallman was the most productive player on offense for the Orange squad with 9-61 rushing and 2-28 receiving. Kurt Fleming, a walk-on who has joined the Clemson program after a professional baseball career, had the longest play of the day with a 49-yard rush and finished with 3-55 on the ground altogether.
The Orange defense was led by defensive backs Ryan Carter and T.J. Green who had eight tackles apiece. Green has moved to safety after lettering as a wide receiver last year. Corey Crawford had the only turnover for the Orange defense with a fumble recovery.
"I first want to thank our crowd for creating a great atmosphere today," said Head Coach Dabo Swinney. "I saw some good things out there on both sides of the ball. Wayne Gallman had a very good day. He ran well and showed he can catch the ball and make some plays out of the backfield. He can break tackles.
"Cole Stoudt had the best day of the quarterbacks. He found his receivers and made the right calls."
Freshman Deshaun Watson did not play due to a broken collarbone suffered earlier this week. But he will return in good health in May and will be a part of the competition. Other players who missed the game due to injury were Charone Peake, Tyshon Dye, Marcus Bullard, Zach Riggs, Oliver Jones Travis Blanks, Martin Jenkins, Taylor Watson, Kellen Jones, Eric Mac Lain and Sam Cooper.
Clemson opens fall practice on July 31 and will open its season at Georgia on August 30.

MADISON, Wis. -- Austin Ramesh rushed for 71 yards in two quarters, and Jack Russell kicked two field goals to give the Cardinal a 6-0 victory over the White squad in the 2014 Wisconsin Football Spring Game.

After a three-month break following the Capital One Bowl, the Badgers returned to action at Camp Randall Stadium for their annual spring game. Fans gathered to catch the Cardinal and White teams go head-to-head in two full 15-minute quarters of competition that followed a structured set of offense-versus-defense plays.

The Cardinal made its first statement early, as quarterback Tanner McEvoy led a 46-yard scoring drive in the third quarter. Austin Ramesh controlled the tempo, rushing for 21 yards on four carries to set up the eventual score when Russell capped off the drive with a 41-yard field goal to put the squad up 3-0. The junior owns a career long of 48.

The final score of the game also came in the third quarter. The Cardinal pushed out a 63-yard drive that resulted in a 30-yard field goal by Russell. Ramesh, who rushed for 71 yards total, added another 22 yards on the possession to position his team for the win.

McEvoy headed the charge for the Cardinal, passing for 55 yards on four completions. Fresh faces led the White squad, as Bart Houston threw for 19 yards (3-for-4) and Thad Armstrong went 2-for-2 for 16 yards.

Despite the loss, Austin Hudson made a defensive statement for White’s defense. The freshman led all Badgers with five tackles, including one solo stop. Joe Ferguson added four of the White team’s 24 tackles. The Cardinal squad picked up 18 tackles in its shutout of the White squad.

The Badgers are set to open the 2014 season on Aug. 30 against LSU in the AdvoCare Texas Kickoff at NRG Stadium in Houston.
