A lot of Dogs winning this weekend.

Oklahoma gave up a TD with about a minute left in the game with reserves in play. What worries me is that they left Trevor Knight in for quite a while and his performance dipped. Yes the dog won but that is indicative of how unique week one's are as a rule.

Alabama and Florida St both showed vulnerabilities. W Vir and Okla St are not jugernauts by any stretch of the imagination but they both pulled their points.

Line drops occurring saturday reflected that dogs were getting pounded pretty hard. I watched as many games as I could ( I watch 3 simultaneously ) and some teams were pressed much harder than they anticipated. Ohio St got 3 defensive TD's otherwise they looked very vulnerable against Navy who is basically a one dimensional team. UCLA struggled. Hundley was inconsistent as was Winston. It makes you wonder about UCLA and Florida St because their QB's are critical to their success SU and ATS. Ohio St is just not the same without Miller. Just shows how critical the QB position is in this day and age of wide open offenses. Alabama is vulnerable.

Everyone knew Cal had a good QB in Goff but the quality of their overall talent look improved. Stop and think how many teams looked better in their opening game this year than they did as a rule last season. Georgia looks like they can wear you down this year but their defense still has a ways to go. LSU hung in there on the road and you still cannot knock Wisconsin in terms of effort. Notre Dame is for real but does face the toughest schedule in the country. They may only get better.

Effort was missing in a few teams: Florida St looked confused at times and especially Winston. Same with Hundley. Knight for OU looked good in the first half but not so much in the second half. What will OU do if he gets hurt. USC overcame many off field distractions and rose to the occasion and Kessler had a good day. Washington did not look as good as I thought they might. Washington St still is one dimensional and absolutely no running game. UCLA will surely improve but Oregon and USC are probably the teams to beat in the PAC-12.

Teams that breezed were Nebraska, Mississippi St and Texas A&M and the Aggies opened everyone's eyes with their performance. Mississippi took a while to get untracked but they have good balance.

BYU and Texas look to be pretty evenly matched going into week 2. Should be a good game there. Penn St could get better as the season progresses and is a team that could be worth watching.

Some HC's who proved themselves were Gundy (Okla St), James Franklin (Penn St), and Kyle Flood (Rutgers). HC's like Sonny Dykes (Cal), Dana Holgerson, and Bo Pelini proved they could weather the criticism and keep their jobs.

Be interesting to see how Baylor does tonight having had the benefit of observing all that transpired yesterday. They could be on a mission and Briles is one of the best. It has to be difficult to sit idly by while everyone else is garnering all of the attention.

UCLA's first 3 scores were non-offense....and they only scored once on O.

Washington looked like shit.

Yes but they did suspend their best QB for that game. Be interesting to see if they do better with him.

Some good observations Russ.

All the "union representatives" couldn't help out Northwestern. Maybe the players need a few more "union votes" to turn this season around. Cal slapped them around pretty good.

It's a shame too Fitzgerald deserves better.

Also looking over the box scores I found this. Texas intercepted NT 4 times. Texas started 6 possessions on their own 35 or better. They had 354 total yds and Ash was 19-34 for 190 yds.
