First of, thanks to Rooftop for inspiring me to do this. His experience with the Clean Cleanse is documented here.

What is the Clean Cleanse? It's a 21 day cleanse, detox, and diet, preceded by a 3 day pre-cleanse and followed by a 7 day re-introduction of "trigger" foods, particularly gluten and dairy. http://www.cleanprogram.com/

Today is Day 1 of my Pre-Cleanse and it's not starting out well. The proportions for the recipe for almond butter pancakes was off by such a comically large degree, my first attempt at breakfast was a disaster. I'm choking them down as I type. Hopefully, I'll have better luck with the Asian turkey burgers for lunch.

My starting weight:




Goal: 225 lbs

I will be updating this thread daily, as we are encouraged to keep a journal during this process.

My presentation sucks, but this was pretty good. This is something I will continue to eat outside the cleanse.

Asian turkey burgers with pickled vegetables:




Off to the gym.












ASIAN TURKEY BURGERS WITH PICKLED VEGETABLES

Serves 4

For the vegetables:
• ½ cup red wine vinegar
• 2 tablespoons coconut nectar
• ½ teaspoon salt
• 1 cup shredded carrots
• 1 cup seedless cucumber, cut into matchsticks
• ½ cup scallions (whites and greens parts), thinly sliced on an angle

For the burgers:
• 1 pound ground turkey (turkey breast, thigh, or a combination will work)
• 4 cloves garlic, minced or finely grated
• 2 tablespoons fresh ginger root, grated
• ½ teaspoon salt
• 1 teaspoon ground coriander
• ¼ cup parsley, finely chopped
• romaine or bibb lettuce, for serving

Directions: Make the pickled vegetables: in a small pot bring the vinegar, coconut nectar, and salt to a boil. While
that’s coming to a boil, combine the carrots, cucumber, and scallions in a heat-safe bowl. Pour the hot vinegar
mixture over the vegetables and toss to coat. Allow to marinate at room temperature while you proceed with the
recipe.

Make the burgers: combine turkey, garlic, ginger, salt, coriander, and parsley in a mixing bowl and use your hands
to mix it all up. Form the mixture into four patties of equal size about 1/2 inch thick. Cook in a skillet or grill pan
(with a splash of olive oil if the pan is not nonstick) until cooked through, about 4-5 minutes per side. Arrange
lettuce on plates. Top with burgers. Spoon some of the pickled vegetables on top of each burger and serve.

This is what I ate last night:
WILTED SPINACH AND SPICED CHICKEN


Serves 1


• 1 4-5 ounce chicken breast (vegetarians can use ½ cup cooked chickpeas)
• 1-2 tablespoons olive oil
• 2 teaspoons ground paprika
• 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
• ¼ teaspoon ground coriander seed
• 2 tablespoons sliced red onions
• 1 ripe mango, peeled and cut into large chunks
• 2 large handfuls of fresh spinach
• 1 tablespoon lemon juice
• 1 teaspoon sea salt


Directions: Preheat oven 350°F. Place the chicken breast in a baking dish, coat with olive oil, sea salt, paprika,
cumin and coriander. Bake for 12 minutes or until fully cooked (check with a fork). Remove from the oven and let
it cool on a cutting board, once the chicken is slightly cooled, cut into thin pieces. Meanwhile, heat a large saute
pan over medium-high heat with 1 tablespoon of coconut oil and gently cook the onions for 2-3 minutes, stirring
continuously. Add the mango and cook until warmed through. Add in the sliced chicken breast, gently toss then
add in the spinach and lemon juice. Cover the pan and allow the spinach to steam. Sprinkle in a touch of sea salt
and serve immediately.​

Like the Asian turkey burgers, this was pretty tasty and something that I would eat outside of this cleanse.

I'm getting pretty hungry in between meals and I woke up this morning very, very hungry. I'm making the pancakes again and I had the same problem as yesterday, but now I know what I'm doing wrong. Helpful hint: if a recipe calls for almond flour, don't try to substitute coconut flour.

I ended up not going to the gym yesterday. That combined with eating three meals made me certain that I was actually going to be heavier when I weighed this morning, but I was surprised by the fact that I was down 2.2 pounds already. Definitely going to the gym today, but I think it would be best if I just walked on the treadmill for an hour or so.

You can easily do this. 13 pounds in 21 days, no problem. A good rule is 8-10lbs the first 7 days, and 1-2lbs each week after, putting you right where you say you want to be. ENJOY

Not all that easy of a day. I've had a headache since I woke up that intensified throughout the day, along with my irritability.

One thing is for sure, I'm through following the recipes. It's too expensive to have to get all the ingredients from Whole Foods. I'm thinking from this point forward, it's just going to be grilled chicken breasts or buffalo steaks with asparagus, broccoli or beans.

Tomorrow is the last day for my pre-cleanse and I have to go back to work. It will be interesting how compatible the Cleanse is with my 13 hour shifts.

Some more details from today. I went to the gym with the intention of lifting weights and swimming. Combined with the headache and irritability, I've been feeling "off" all day. I managed to force myself to stay on the elliptical for 20 minutes and walk another 20. There energy and/or desire to lift weights just isn't there.

From what I've read, everything that I'm experiencing is to be expected. It's just amazing to me that the side effects of detoxification would kick in after only 3 organic meals.

I'm still waiting for the meal that I started 2 hours ago to finish cooking, but I'm not really hungry at all for some reason.

I dont know my way around the kitchen all that well, but I've never even heard of some of the ingredients you are using.........GL on the cleanse though. I've had friends who have done it and they all recommend it

I'm not counting but I'm eating three full meals a day in this pre-cleanse. I'm sure it's over 1200.

Yeah, that explains a lot - as a larger male, that's not a whole lot of fuel. It's like eating 8 chicken breasts a day... It might keep you full, but no way it's enough energy to work out. BUT, I realize it's a cleanse and not a diet. Wishing you the best!
