Strikeforce "Shamrock vs Diaz" (4/11) picks:

4* Frank Shamrock (-165)

The way I see it this fight will be a slugfest that takes place on the feet, with neither guy having a good enough wrestling game to get it to the ground, and both having good enough grappling skills to nullify each others ground skills if it does go there.

Diaz will have the reach advantage, but as far as technical striking goes, I give Frank a pretty big advantange. While Diaz has ko'ed people in the past, he is definitely not known for his punching power, and Shamrock has a very solid chin, so I don't see any scenario where Diaz knocks him out.

The fight will be three rounds, so I don't see cardio being an issue for either fighter, not to mention they are both known for having great conditioning. Shamrock wins a decision in an exciting bout by controlling the standup with good use of leg-kicks and superior boxing.

UFC 97 picks:

1* Antoni Hardonk (+210)

These odds are just rediculous, and just go to show how Kongo is overhyped. Both guys are about the same size, both have solid kickboxing backgrounds, but Hardonk has a definite edge in the submission department, as Kongo's ground game is pretty shaky (see the Herring fight). I think this fight is 50:50 and could go either way, so Hardonk at +210 has too much value for me to pass up.

Probably gonna lay a bet on MacDonald when the odds are right, and possibly even Leites if he hits over +400, which could very well happen.

people said the same thing about Serra vs GSP I, it's MMA, anything can happen. Leites has an iron chin and has never been finished, has good enough takedowns to put Anderson on his ass, and a world class bjj game that could cause some serious problems for Silva. Will he likely win? probably not, but I don't think he's a 4:1 underdog, so I'll consider tossing a unit on it if the odds continue to shift in Anderson's favor.

3* MacDonald (-125)

Sort of missed the boat on this one, as MacDonald was the underdog a few weeks ago, oh well.

Quarry has not impressed me one bit since returning from knee surgury following his loss to Rich Franklin back in '05. He was getting beat pretty badly by Pete Sell, but managed to knock him out in the 3rd. He beat Kalib Starnes in quite possibly one of the most boring fights in UFC history, with Kalib running around the octagon for the entire duration, not engaging. He was then destroyed by Demian Maia within two minutes by way of RNC @ UFC 91.

MacDonald has had a lot of ups and downs in the UFC thus far, with impressive wins over Joe Doerkson twice, and submission victories over Leben, Herman, and Lambert. Most of his losses are from top middleweights such as Rich Franklin, Yushin Okami, Demian Maia, and most recently Wilson Gouveia. So I definitely give the experience factor to Jason.

I think the stand-up will be pretty even, but when the fight eventually hits the ground, MacDonald will have a clear advantage. I predict that MacDonald submits Quarry in the 2nd round.

Anything can happen. He just hasn't beat anyone. His 2 toughest opponents he basically lost both. He lost to Kampman and although he did "win" he didn't really beat him. He was losing the fight.
