Last day of the thread. Almost turned a profit for the summer, but a late slump did me in. It was fun, though. I'm going to try a couple from Kentucky Downs today - with those big fields I can really get paid well if I hit one (last ditch effort to land in the black).
KD
R3 - #3 Chewing Gum (15-1) has won on this track in the past (this is a bigger deal than on most tracks) and is a Gr 2 winner, which puts him miles above this field in back class.
R7 - #5 Peek (20-1) bred to go long so a mile and a half should be right in his wheelhouse. Coming off a bullet work at KEE and gets Geroux, who has had a great deal of success here (and had other options).
R8 - #8 Strand Of Gold (10-1) didn't care for the soft conditions in comebacker at Saratoga. Now gets Lasix for 2nd try off the layoff and much firmer footing (I think). Saffie brings Zayas up from Florida to handle the duties - is he throwing him a bone?
R10 - #11 Freydis The Red (12-1) last try at this distance she finished less than 3 lengths back at 36-1 in a Grade 1 at Belmont. That was with Alvarado aboard - and we all know he is useless on the turf. Now she gets McPeek's "go to" rider in BJ. She'll be closing fast and may just get there.
R12 - #8 Field Pass (10-1) can't go wrong with T-Gaff & Maker in the nightcap for double digits. Performed well in the Grade 3 Mint Million here last summer so we know he can handle the course. Seems to run best at 1 1/16, but this mile course plays like that due to the uphill stretch.
SAR
R2 - #4 Bon Adieu (7-2) first time available for a claim. Jockey is the only concern.
R5 - #6 Magic Beach (6-1) if Linda Rice has a weakness as a trainer is with baby turf first-timers. However, Prat sees fit, the pedigree is strong for a debut, and he was a January foal, so I'm counting on a bit of a maturity edge.
R6 - #4 Alpine Princess (4-1) Ugly trip in debut, but has four solid works since, culminating in a bullet last Saturday.
R9 - #6 Alys Beach (15-1) that was a very impressive win in her debut and the filly she beat at the wire came back to win in her next try. Not sure why the morning line maker isn't giving her more love?
R10 - #9 Dark Pool (5-1) and just like that Double D gets the late double. She's up against it with only one race under her belt, but that may help our odds.
