Did you see Mays play everyday? Agree that Manny is impressive but he is no Willy Mays.

here we go: (juiced ball, smaller parks, expansion has diluted the pitching, advent of weight training and roids) all work to manny's advantage... the 60's were the pitching era... remeber the NL pitchers that mays and aaron faced.. mound was raised also... mays and aaron would hit many many more in todays game with modern fitness and training to aid them also..

Both will be in the Hall and deservedly so. I'm just glad that I had the opportunity to see some of the all-time greats play in their heyday. Manny will get his bronze bust.

Love the Eddie Murray picture J man.

Wore his number all through little league and high school baseball.

Lived 2 hours from Detroit growing up and would go to every Tigers / Orioles series just to watch him hit.

HITTER!!

MAYS is a MUCH better overall player.

MANNY on pace for ALL-TIME RBI record.......319 hitter........possible 660 homers or more.

Absolutely agree. It's hard to fathom what Mays and Aaron would do in today's game. I'm with you on this one.

SSI- I usually side with the older players as well....Don't forget the deadball 70's early 80's when 35 HR would lead the league....

Manny was doing it before the steroid craze of 1998-2002...

Cleveland '95 was as good an offensive team as anyone, ok where am I going with this

Believe me. Willy Mays and Hank Aaron were tremendous "hitters" first with the long ball coming off their bat speed. The numbers of today are not necessarily comparable to today's numbers. Respect Manny a great deal, but zeroing in on the average and RBI total can be somewhat skewed by the times.

Frank Robinson was as feared as any right handed hitter that you can name. Not far behind was Harmon Killerbrew. Batting Average sometime is not something that defines a great power hitter. Robinson for example hit .298 lifetime, but made an extra base hit every 8.4 official at bats .

wil.

Fish/JMan:

Respect your knowledge of the game. The only thing I can tell you id that I watched each of these men first hand and there is a difference in their abilities, numbers aside.

Whatever the case, all I know is we are seeing ONE of the greatest right-handed hitters in our lifetime.

I'll agree with that. My lifetime may be a bit longer however.
